Kind of disappointed because i don't get this channel anymore although I do have the first 13 episodes saved on my dvr.

On Directv there is a new Mafia's Greatest Hits coming on saturday night about Arnold Rothstein. They are indeed new episodes.

On Saturday 11/26 the episode is on Albert Anastasia.

Re: This Sat., New Edpisodes of Mafias Greatest Hits - 11/17/17 12:33 AM

I wish they did more stuff on the Chicago guys like Lombardo or Calabrese, guys from that era. Gallo has been beaten to death, and he wasn't on the streets that long as a player.

Yea ur right. Profiling Gotti, gallo, giancana is getting old. A few new mobsters they covered were good like allen dorfman n genovese n galante. The newer school guys would be interesting to watch

Re: This Sat., New Edpisodes of Mafias Greatest Hits - 11/27/17 04:52 PM

Anastasia's was lame. Did he really have that guy killed who ratted on the escaped convict? If so, why didn't the government come crashing down on organized crime? Overall it's all of the sane shit we've been hearing forever. I like how back in the 90's they used to make it seem like none of the big timers condoned drugs. Now we have Arnold Rothstein putting together the largest drug network ever. You used to only hear about the pizza connection and low level guys bc the dons didn't want to know about it. But the Fucking dons were all involved. Show some new faces!

I wonder if the Albert Anastasia episode was any different than the Mobsters episode on the mad hatter. I doubt there was any new info or stories but I'd still like to see them. Maybe they'll be on youtube.

I was just diving a little deeper into Anastasia's hit on Arnold Schuster and I BELIEVE, that they left out some important info.
I read that the supposed killer of Schuster was a man named Frederick "Angel of Death" Tenuto...He also served time with Willie Sutton....Somehow, when Sutton got identified, Tenuto was so close to Anastasia that he was able to order him to hit Schuster....THAT tells me that Anastasia had a piece of Willie Sutton...I don't doubt that Schuster ID'ing Sutton enraged Albert but, Schuster now took away a lucrative part of Anastasia's enterprise.
Sooooo, Tenuto kills Schuster on Alberts orders and gets in hot water with the commission. Albert then admits his mistake and has Tenuto killed and buried under another dead body's coffin. (According to police)

These shows are Hollywooding them up.

The TRUTH about all these legendary mafia figures is, they had a lot of soldiers doing their dirty work BUT, had no problem taking credit.

Jesus christ if I see another fuckin mob doc about Gotti, Anastasia, Luciano, or Capone Im gonna shit blood....You would think with Scorsese making the Irishman, that we would get a new mob doc on Russell Buffalino, or even one solely on Angelo Bruno and not just his murder and the Scarfo years that followed

Agree on both.

The documentary said Genovese convinced the other Dons that Anastasia had to go because of his behavior. Only partly true:

Luciano appointed Genovese acting head of his family when he went away in 1936 for double-digits on the "compulsory prostitution" rap. But Genovese had to flee the US for Italy a year later, one step ahead of a murder rap. Costello became acting head.

When Genovese returned to the US after WWII, he couldn't resume his position because Costello was firmly in charge, and had Willie Moretti as his "protector." Then Moretti was whacked because his brain went soft due to syphilis. Costello found a new ally: Anastasia. According to Joe Bonanno in his bio, "A Man of Honor," Genovese conspired with Lucchese to whack Anastasia to get at Costello. Costello found out about that plot and brought it to the Commission. Lucchese admitted it and got a pass. But, in '57, Genovese used the Gallo brothers to kill Anastasia, paving the way for his driver, Gigante, to shoot Costello and force him into retirement.

I just can't stand the reenactments. It's so cheap. There is great stock footage available of these subjects they're covering, but they don't want to pay for it. It's cheaper to recreate the situations with these horrendous actors.

Bill Kurtis's docs from the '90s are still the best. Many of them are available on Youtube's "Mob Video Vault" channel.

Pbs crime inc in the late 80tys was the best hands down . They had they great music in the background that has been sampled by tons of hiphop people.

I agree...There's a few good ones, but they have reenactment scenes of commission meetings with nerdy looking kids in their early 20's, guys that don't look italian at all..Its a joke...I agree...Show the real guys...Is it so hard to post a picture of Fritzy Giovanelli instead of the goofball they had portray him ??

I think he was on the episode about the vegas skim and all that shit. I remeber that cantalupo guy from brooklyn was on the one about loansharking there was one on the commission they used stock footage and court clips for the whole thing and undercover shit. They would inteviews guys and it was narrated by that guy with the classic voice.

Strongly agree with both of you. Nothing but awkward looking kids trying to look like gangsters, and closeups of cigarettes burning in ashtrays. tongue

Big Joey Massino tonight!

I HIGHLY doubt we will here any new info.

I do however believe Big Joey's reason for whacking Sonny WAS, because Sonny was made Acting boss above Joey, even though Joey appeared to be a lot closer to Rusty.
Joey probably did not like this and used the Brasco fiasco to his advantage....MAYBE if Sonny never made the statement of proposing Donnie for membership, he may have got bumped down to Soldier like Sabella.... Who knows?

Did Anastasia really walk sheen the street pushing a stroller with a fake baby to stalk Dewey? I've heard the story about Dutch Schultz knowing that Dewey stopped every morning in a candy/cigar store to call his wife. But this Anastasia thing seems to be far-fetched. They might as well start making new fiction stories instead of exaggerating.

I heard/read he sat on a stoop across the street while playing with a real baby/toddler while watching Dewey. I'm not making that up either.

Wether he was pushing a fake baby in a stroller or sitting with a real baby across the street, either way it's pretty messed up!
