Porter was half Italian on his mother's side. FriendofHarry's knows more, I have him made in the early 1980's, right before Genovese took over. Porter was real close to Michael.

Giacomo as always thanks for your insight pal.. so half italian in the
80s gets u straightened out in Shittsbugh eh? And he's advanced to Ub..damn Chucky must have been some kind of earner to garner that position...just anguess but by the early 80s was the Pitt family in decline and their recruiting piol drying up like we've sern in other areas? Just speculation of course.. i know little to nothing about the pitt fam and they did have Mike Genovese firmly in power then until what 10 yrs ago

My recollection was mid to late 80s. Maybe as early as 84 but no later than 88 from what I can remember.

Sorry but I always read that the reasons because the Pittsburgh family died was because genovese in the 80s made only 5 men and "not because there no men that deserve to be made" but only because the boss dont want to give more money to their men so when the feds in the 80s and 90s strike the family there are no men to fill the void. In Pennsylvania there 12.2 % of italians now,so think in the 80s.

Chucky was 1/2 Italian on his Mother's side. He in fact was made by Michael. I believe in 1986.
He brought the big time drug business into play for the Pittsburgh LCN.
He was by far their biggest earner at the time. Then he "Ratted" everyone out :-(

Maybe is a bullshit but I read that Porter get 30 y for drug and ratted because want to stay with his nephews but I think was because at near 60 y get 30 y means die in prison.

So you think it was OK for him to rat everyone out for a reduction in his sentence? You gota' know better than that!

I dont want to offend friend of Henry; if I would be a criminal I would be very angry, but since I am not a criminal, for me is indiffent that Porter or anyone other criminal rat on another criminal. You knowed them, but for me they arent heroes.

No offense taken and I'm no criminal either. However the oath of Omerta as part of the life these people choose makes anyone one who rats never a hero.

Believe me when I say that just because you have friends doesn't mean they are your heroes.

Thank you FriendofHenry, didn't Porter had strong connections to the unions and used their trucks to transport the drugs?

Re: Pittsburgh's Chucks Porter Dead - 10/14/16 01:27 PM

Whatever influence Chucky had with the unions was left over from the control Jo Jo had with the different unions for decades.

Chucky Porter was made in 1986, a year after Mike was made boss.

No. Chucky was nowhere near any narcotics transactions...except to receive cash. Ramon Sosa transported the kilos of coke while Geno Chiarelli, John Leone, Joey Rosa, Eugene Gesuale and some other low level associates distributed. Chucky wouldn't even meet with anybody associated with narcotics except for Gesuale.

Chucky's mother was a Gialanella. His uncles were old Black Handers and in the 1940's and 1950's, his uncles ran a large numbers bank. His uncles were close to Frank Amato Sr and Sonny Amato. Frank Amato Sr vouged for Chucky and then died shortly after. When the old man stood up for Porter, John LaRocca groomed him and brought him along to many meetings with the Bufalino's, The Maggadino's and with Angelo Lonardo and John Scalish. Porter sometimes traveled with LaRocca to Pompano Beach, FL where Big John had a winter home.

Chucky was a huge earner running barbut games at the Beacon Club, a Squirrel Hill Social Club. He also ran a bookmaking operation with Teamster boss Mark Houmis where they infiltrated the Pittsburgh Post Gazette Truck Drivers Union where Mike Genovese Jr and Johnny LaRocca III are still employed. When the late 1970's came around, Porter partnered up with Lou Raucci, Paul Hankish (Wheeling, WV Crime Boss), and Eugene Gesuale, his longtime neighborhood friend who made the original coke deal through Paul Mazzei, aka The Pittsburgh Connection (from Goodfellas)

Re: Pittsburgh's Chucks Porter Dead - 12/03/16 04:13 PM

pittsburgh's union influence was through nick stirone, the biggest labor racketeer in Pittsburgh history. he came to pittsburgh in 1937 and organized the common laborers in the construction industry. he joined the laborers union in 1921 in new jersey and organized a small local there. he became head of the pittsburgh district laborers council, better known as local 1058. it took 8 years and two trials to indict and convict him for a 10 year sentence and he allegedly extorted over $31k from a cement contractor. he was convicted in 1957 and lost his appeal in 1962. everybody went to nick stirone for union issues and favors, easily making him the most powerful union racketeer in pittsburgh

nick Stirone was released on parole in December of 1966. thomas pecora (no relation to Jo Jo) took over as president...while John LaRocca called the shots of 1058 by putting his son as VP of the local. Jo Jo was the B.A for local 178 of the Wreckers & Scrap Iron Workers. obviously, jo jo had his hand in union affairs but not to the extent of his widespread gambling and casino empire

Re: Pittsburgh's Chucks Porter Dead - 12/03/16 06:12 PM

Unfortunately you won't find that Jo Jo's brother, Vince, was a long time BA with Laborers Local 1058 on the internet.
Also not on the internet was that his brother Charles (aka.PK) was also a BA with the Pittsburgh Post Gazette Truck Drivers Union ;-)

If I'm not mistaken, Vince was a B.A for local 95 which represented operating engineers. Either way, the Pecora's were taken care of with union representation and were a very fine family

For sure Vince was a member of Laborers Local 1058. I have no knowledge of him also being a Ba for Local 95. That doesn't mean he wasn't. It only means that's news for me.

he was definitely part of local 95 which was under the umbrella of local 1058

Now that would explain his relationship with Local 95 being that it was under Local 1058's umbrella.

I only know what I know from my personal relationship with the Pecora brothers. I guess I need to use the internet more ;-)

sometimes court files, FBI reports and indictments are able to connect the dots from some personal info...its a beautiful combo
