I don't think there are any Italian American gangs in NY today. People who join gangs are usually people who come from poor families in cities, and most Italian Americans are middle or upper class who live in the suburbs.

So most gang members in NY come from latino or black communities.

So the Tanglewood boys after Mazzarella flips in 2003 was the last italian gang ?

10th and Oregon gang in Philly is still active and largely Italian-American in terms of membership.

Yeah that's true Dante. But the days of Italians in NY youth street gangs is definitely over. Which is a good thing.

There's still small crews of young Italian Associates in the NJ/NY area, that typically sell drugs.

Furio there are no Italian American gangs in this area (north jersey) Dante is jus saying that typically our generation (I'm 31) and younger that are in the streets sell drugs, may have a gambling package; etc: it's not like you're thinking. It's not organized at all.

Re: There are still NY an italian american gangs ? - 02/12/16 06:42 PM

Bobby Pazzo is 100% spot on , he knows his stuff as we both have the same mutual connections here in Jersey from "the streets" I'm 31 too- there will be groups of Italian-American guys who are all friends here our age who will engage in selling drugs, party together, and handle a gambling package. Maybe they know an associate or a low level made guy they kick up a piece to because they are wannabes . You will see these groups of guys at clubs in Jersey, they don't literally hang out in the streets but they make money off those activities and are Italian-American. Take it for what it's worth...

Re: There are still NY an italian american gangs ? - 02/12/16 06:51 PM

And they only MAYBE kick up a piece to an associate or low level
Made guy because they are wannabes who want to play the gangster part. They like to be able to say they are "connected to person XYZ". There's a group of guys like this in every heavily Italian-American influenced town in Jersey from
The shore to North Jersey and everywhere between. These guys aren't a real gang and are a dime a dozen. Also, every guy our age who handles a gambling package in Jersey acts like they're Tony Soprano, it's really hard to explain to outsiders unless you live here and grew up in it. Bobby Pazzo knows his stuff, is spot on,and correct though trust me

I think a good example of what's being talked about above is this 2003 bust of 29 mob wannabes

Theyput Maldone in that case and all he did was buy some drugs from one of the guys. Funny thing is "Larry Boy" actually pleaad guilty to extrotion in 2011.

I think that the italian gangs are composed of wannabes that are sons or parents made men so are a farm team for the mob. Do you know if also in Boston and Chicago there are those farm teams.

Days of the 40 theives and gangs along those lines are over. Middle class guys aren't going to fight it out on the street with the young latin gang.

And Boston ?

Re: There are still NY an italian american gangs ? - 02/15/16 05:16 PM

Not going to lie I know little to nothing about Boston, I'm just talking about the streets in general. I would guess that the projects of Boston are not full of Irisj and Italian youth gangs though.

Yes, the Stagno bust young guys crew was the perfect example of the types of wannabe crews of young guys I'm talking about. Those guys all operated around the Toms River area....

There are tons of non-Italian white wanna be crews like this all over America that subscribe to the idea that they are similar to the mafia.

Not NYC but SCR is a white group and have ties to Chicago so I'm sure there are some outfit connections somewhere in time.

Gang is different than "gangster." When I hear the word "gang" I think of the kids in The Warriors movie or something: kids who hang around outside a lot, roaming the street and getting into trouble. Not middle class kids driving a honda or their moms subaru to sell some coke or collect on a bet.

Or maybe a couple of thugs that sell weed or extasy during the party and take the best from the students.

More than likely you'll have a few or some involve in local crews with a mixed membership. A non italian crew would be ABI, Albanian Boys Inc.
