From vague memory I think I recall reading a figure which stated the NYPD had 100 officers working on OC.

The NYPD Organized Crime unit worked on a lot of the 5 Families and even the Decavalcantes who operated in NYC's 5 boroughs gambling rackets over the years. They were instrumental in doing the ground work in a ton of mob gambling cases recently and over the years...

That was back in the 1980s and 1990s.

Maybe is because the gangs crimes made headlines when the OC gruops prefer to stay in the shadow. And is incredible that in NY there are more 300 gangs I believed that LA was the US gangs Capital.

So its down to what...2 FBI squads for the 5 families and now no NYPD OC unit.

Smells like a mob resurgence.

Between the gangs and the FBI focusing (as they should be) on terrorism (domestic, internet, and abroad), you would think that there is opportunity to get away with more.

Same in Philly with the 2011 indictment. Local/state police do a lot of the gambling investigations that the FBI rolls into their RICO cases.

So combined with the FBI cutbacks over the years, there's going to be hardly anyone investigating the five families? Regardless of other priorities, that seems a little irresponsible of law enforcement.

oc cases dont get the publicity they used to get and public opinion has changed alot of people dont see LCN as a priority many seeing it as a thing of the past

i would disagree with that but that is what alot think. I agree terrorism and gangs are a priority but i do think oc needs more resources being put against it.

The feds have a impossible job now i bet they dont even know half of the hierarchy in these familys two sqauds five familys its impossible to monitor when they took away the bonanno squad in the 90s it was a disaster but even then they had another four squads. Now they have 2 squads for whole LCN. Plus some feds have complained about lack of resources


These guys will continue to grow and stabilize sure the glory days are not coming back but if law enforcement does not try and bring them down i dont see them going anywhere for the foreseeable future

The two squads also don't make sense to me geographically. The lukes and west side should be monitored by the same unit.

Mob OC cases are still front page news.

Take Asaro recently. Guy was only a capo in the lowly Banannas (and a busted ass at that) and he got his cover spread.
OC guys are still trophys for the Feds and prosecutors to get their headlines and bump their careers, make no mistake.

I don't think that the mob will ever be able to infiltrate most businesses like it once did.
But if they are left alone and the guys that are young get into the life the people they grew up with of went to school with will be the ones in these businesses and the ones in office .

It's when the people are in place at high levels is when they will be able to infiltrate legitimate business and government .

Right now they are " Functioning " not thriving cos the mob guys were under pressure for the last 30 years and the people in high places are not friendly or have a working relationship with these guys.

But give it 30 years with them mingling and operating at the level they are now and you bet they will be able to gain hold back in legitimate business and government ...

When my oldest son was a kid in the early 70 was watching him player soccer here in Brooklyn. There was another father of a kid playing against his team from Queens.

We got to talking I told him I was also player and a coach in Brooklyn and for a club in East Harlem. I told him I am from east Harlem. One thing led to another he told me he was a cop with the organized crime task force investigating east Harlem. I told him my best friend own Johnnies Super Heros an Italian deli there. He laughed he said they were watching that place because of the people that would go there. He even told me they bugged the pay phone and bug under the floor from the basement.

After the game ended I go home and told Johnnie about it

It's Gangs & Crews that their focus on and crews make up a significant portion of the landscape. L.A still is the gang capitol in regards to number of gangs.

For a resurgance you've got to have people who aren't knuckleheads and aren't interested flipping on thier own blood family or plotting murder with crips over minor things that could be solved over sit-downs.

Their biggest problems are getting "talent" who can earn and demographics, LE pressure is like the weather, they seem to survive the pressure in some form or another somehow.
