Kicking up

Let me see if I've got this right. I'm going to use round numbers which may or may not be very inaccurate but it's just to make the figures easier to get my head around.

Say each solider in a crew of 10 brought in $1,000 a week. Is it correct to say that in a standard kicking up situation, each soldier would go home with $900, after having kicked up 10% each to the captain?

In turn the captain would then kick up 10% of his $1,000 to the administration - ie $100 and go home with his own $900. That means the admin earn just $100 off every $10,000 made by that crew.

Even with 10 crews each bringing in $10k a week, the admin only earns $1k off every $100k the family brings in. Seems so low to me, which is why I ask if it's correct. I know some bosses - Castellano / Scarfo etc - had other arrangements but I'm just talking typical kickup situations here.

If so what's the incentive to rise from captain to admin given the extra heat and almost certain jail time it brings? I can understand wanting to be a captain to keep your hands somewhat cleaner but really, why'd anyone want to be boss other than for the power kick / ego trip?

i dont know because different capos kick up different amounts but jack falcone a FBI agent who infiltrated the gambino family. He reported to greg DePalma who was the capo. Anyway Jack said that he estimated that greg made 25k a month thats 250k a year that is also according to jack not including big scores that greg would make. Jack said greg would kick up from what he heard several thousand a month to megale and arnold that was in 2004-5

Not to mention that as Boss, you develop and expand connections that allow your own rackets to make more money. The income of a boss isn't entirely comprised of kickups.

In some of the bigger rackets the admin claims the business and gets the lion share. Windows business is a decent example of this and possibly the garment center

Yea you almost had the kick up right, you just needed that other 10% to the boss when you pay the 10% to your capo. So you're paying around 20% (depending) on every score. I imagine there was so much they expected you to kick up as well so that is why most had to think up scores all day every day.

Greg was never that kind of earner, even as a young guy. Trust me on that. He had what was in his pocket. He loved to show-off, and he had it down to a science. So a lot of people bought into his act.

When he died he left his wife nothing but debt. Street money, the mortgage on the Scarsdale house that was forever being re-mortgaged, you name it. When he was finished doing his bid for Scores, he came home to a shitty little condo in Tuckahoe, which wasn't even in the "nice" part of Tuckahoe.

Greg was a bully who wanted everything for free. Just thinkimg about him turns my stomach.

I'm guessing, but maybe they were weak in the BX at the time. Plus, it could have been a reward for doing his time. But I'll let PB answer definitively on this one. I'm just speculating.

one of my favorite greg dp anecdotes either from falcone or something ive read from this board was that a personal friend (if the guy even had any true friends) of greg's was an artist or something, and every time greg would visit the guy he'd bring a packaging tube and steal a print from him. come over to say hi or something, take a print and roll it up and stuff it into his tube and leave. the guy sounded like a real peice of shit

yearh i heard he once shot up someones car for fun while the poor guy was in it. Jack falcone said that he was told greg once put a power drill to someones head. He also said he was a headcase always smashing his phone and going nuts.
