What age is Ralph Natale? Must be 80 or thereabouts; was supposed to be going blind.

He's looking pretty good in one of the accompanying pictures to this article - alongside Trevor McDonald.

Re: Mafia with Trevor McDonald - 03/13/15 07:59 PM

The interview with Natale and DiLeonardo should be good. But, why Franzese? I my the only one tired of hearing his story?
Posted By: Moe_Tilden

Re: Mafia with Trevor McDonald - 03/13/15 08:11 PM

Yes. I'm also quite ambivalent about Franzese.
Posted By: sbhc

Re: Mafia with Trevor McDonald - 03/13/15 08:38 PM

I suppose Franzese is kind of a go to guy now for mob documentaries. He's articulate and has an interesting story to tell that the majority of viewers on ITV will have never heard before.

Most folk out there don't have an active interest in organised crime figures like we do on this site.

Re: Mafia with Trevor McDonald - 03/13/15 08:40 PM

Maybe he'll admit for the first time that he is a rat.

Re: Mafia with Trevor McDonald - 03/17/15 08:25 PM

Press release for Episode 2:

http://www.itv.com/presscentre/ep2week14/mafia-trevor-mcdonald

Ron Previte is in it.

Trevor also meets notorious gangster Ron Previte at a garage in Philadelphia. A one-time corrupt cop, Previte raked in millions with the mob before betraying them by giving evidence in a deal with the FBI in the 1990s, which brought down the biggest mafia figures in the city.

Previte denies there was any loyalty in the mafia. He says: “It’s bulls**t, the only code is make what you can get. Take what you can get. You have to protect what you have. When you’re with them people how do you protect it? What are you going to do, sue them? You gotta use violence, you gotta crack them. You got to put his head under the hood of a car and rip his skin off and give him a shave. That’s what you have to do.”

He claims the FBI paid him over a million dollars to wear a wire.“It seemed like a good deal at the time. I still wish I didn’t do it because I’d still be out there doing crime. You can’t get rid of that gene. You can’t get an operation. The FBI threw so much money at me and I am very weak for money. But all these guys trying to tell you they are reformed? I’m here to tell you they are liars.”

Re: Mafia with Trevor McDonald - 03/18/15 06:02 AM

As an annoying piece of shit that Previte is, he gives us a perfect example of the "no honour" reality in the mafia.

Re: Mafia with Trevor McDonald - 03/18/15 05:39 PM

I am gonna try my best to catch this documentary but, I better hear
some new info. Almost every documentary with some of these guys has the same exact story in slightly different words.

Franzese especially!.....I don't want to hear about how his wife turned him down 3 times before she agreed....I want to know how much of the gas tax money he gave to Carmine to allow him to leave the fam AND roam freely and, how much gas tax money he still currently has?......I find it amazing that every single one of the guys who flip, claim that every single dollar they made is gone and they have nothing left. I just don't buy that for one minute....I hope Trevor has an on-air professional lie-detector guy like The Maury Show, then we will see what the truth is.

Re: Mafia with Trevor McDonald - 03/18/15 07:10 PM

I would read a Mikey scars book. Where's sal vitale. Oh yeah they still need him for asaro trial. Yaeh I don't need to here anymore of Michael franses. Netflix won't even buy his shity film. He should just upload to YouTube. Ralph nitale must have good genes cause he does look really good for 84. Shit if he didn't flip he probably be walking out of jail . what was he gonna get back 99 another 10 15 years on a plea.

I went to the ITV website and wanted to watch some preview clips and it said I can't because of the country I live in....Messed up!...That means I probably won't be able to watch the show either tonight.

Hey Furio, if us Americans can't watch it, can you record it so we all can?

shows how much interest there is in this subject, that itv ( uk's main light entertainment channel) is showing it at prime time.
it's on in a couple hours , lets hope it's "new" stuff we ain't heard before. some nat. geo mob docs haven't been all that.
itv (thames) are the one's who made crime inc. even 30 years later it's got a claim to best mob series ever.

Dom , I so agree. Scars testimony is a great read. I am sure he has some great Gotti Sr. and Jr. stories awell as some historical stuff because of his family involvement. I wonder why he hasn't written a book yet, but if and when he does, I'll buy it. I look forward to watching that show when it plays here in the States.

Re: Mafia with Trevor McDonald - 03/23/15 06:15 PM

If Natale wasn't the most influential guy on the street, he was certainly the second most influential guy on the street in Philly for a certain time period. Merlino needed to tap into that wealth of experience and he needed that link to the past.

Guy has aged well.

Anyone know who else will be interviewed after Natale? Franzese has been telling all of those same fuckin stories for nearly the last 2 decades. Interesting stories given his pedigree and the enormous revenue he helped bring in with the gasoline thing but holy shit enough is enough already. Would like to hear from an informant who was more of rarity in OC families (with 1, maybe 2 rats). Nove Tocco would be my frontrunner.

Re: Mafia with Trevor McDonald - 03/23/15 07:41 PM

Natale had already done big fed time for meth. He was looking at like 240 months plus. He also is probably in decent shape because he was a health nut. I live very close to cooper river in collingswood. Natale used to live in Crowne Plaza and be constantly jogging around the river. Fwiw he allways seemed like a real joker who loved to hear himself talk, based of course on the things I've heard or read about him, not his fitness regiment.

So how is he living the high life in California?

Thought the same as a few others have said,- Mikey Scars bit was interesting, most other bits we've seen/heard before.

Would reiterate what Tommy Gambino said - some of Trev's questions were embarassing!
Posted By: TommyGambino

Re: Mafia with Trevor McDonald - 03/24/15 07:50 AM

People all over Twitter & Facebook in England were going ape shit over it last night, talking about how good it was. FFS, it's just because it's Trevor McDonald.

He's normally good when it comes to documentaries but this was pretty weak, I mean he spent 3 months in the US filming this, he couldn't come up with challenging questions?

Remember the Crime Inc-The true storv of the mafia documentary? The guy who made it might have been a posh twat but he asked brilliant questioned and researched LCN thoroughly.

This all seemed rushed to me.
Posted By: Scorsese

Re: Mafia with Trevor McDonald - 03/24/15 07:59 AM

theres a better documentary trevor mcdonald did that you can find on youtube about death row. This one did seem a bit boring even the mikey scars part.
Im looking forward to the ron previte segment he seems to have a different take on everything than the rest of the interview subjects.

there were a bit stupid questions and he coulda ask more uncomfortable questions.. but who knows what was the deal to interview them.

mikey scars was great. Honest to the bone, as far as i can judge..

does anyone have a clue who mikey scars say in little italy from the lucchese family that he recongnized whose father got murdered for screwing up on a hit "with john gotti" not sure what that means..he was on a hit with john gotti or he was ordered by john gotti to do a hit.

Apparently the two guys Micky scars seen were from the luchesse family. One was James froggy Galione, son of former gambino mobster ralph galione. He was the one who shot mcbratney was he not? He's even in the film gotti is he not? Gets shot by walnuts from the sopranos? Was he a drug addict cos he's doing coke in gotti?

Although throughout the entire interview I was vying for Trevor to ask something along the lines of: "If you've already testified and the damage has been done... why are you still worried about people chasing you?"

Re: Mafia with Trevor McDonald - 03/24/15 10:33 AM

According guys on the other site, the GOP has James Galione as still being locked up, what he'd be doing standing in a cafe storefront on Mulberry St, at this time, who knows. But it's quite clear to see why Mikey Scars has yet to write a book, the guy still has legit fears of being spotted and murdered for his transgressions. All of these rats come along and they say "I regret what I did and the people I've hurt", but they never seem to really mean it, Mikey Scars seems like he means it, and if he never had to face it again, he'd be happy.

He did come across sincere ,what i like was he did not bang his chest and play tough guy, some guys play fearless and tough, but they flipped? if they wanted to be the same old guy ,they should never have flipped no matter how much time they got.. looks like he knows he made a huge mistake flipping. they should have asked him historical questions..then threw a few names at him and tell some stories..

Have to say I enjoyed it but Trevor Mac did ask some weak and daft questions!!
Posted By: bronx

Re: Mafia with Trevor McDonald - 03/26/15 11:54 PM

just read some of scars material again. think about this .gotti sr made him with his son, SR gets pinched makes him a captain, then gives him all the construction biz to handle, has him be godfather to JR's son, offers him to be consiglieri, puts him on a murder.my thinking is gotti knew something about scars and felt he had leadership skills and loyalty to the gottis. gotti had only tough guys close to him..people who come from bensonhurst know he was a force.. he ratted and thats all we remember now.. looks like SR loved the guy.
Posted By: Beanshooter

Re: Mafia with Trevor McDonald - 03/27/15 06:20 AM

I agree Bronx, Sr must have seen that Scars was CN. He also knew his son was a lumox and not sharp enough to run their Construction money making machinery and Union racketts. He probably wanted him to help his son and maybe some of his polish would rub off on Jr. I think he would have made been an asset as a Consiglieri to the administration. I just don't think Scars wanted to be involved in running the family with either Junior or Peter Gotti. His flipping is a mystery to me, he must have really been screwed for him to have done that when they broke him.. My two cents.

Re: Mafia with Trevor McDonald - 03/27/15 07:41 AM

Outside of Bill Kurtis, British made docu's on the mob are so much better, no stupid dramatic music or annoying over the top narrators. There's been some great British work on the mob, that series back in the 80s which is extremely in depth, and there was one in the 90s which had a great focus on the DeMeo crew, there floating around on youtube still.

Anyone know when part 2 is going to be put up online to watch? Really wish it was just on mikey scars.. I don't care to hear from ego maniac alite or that fat fuck previte. I hate that guy.. From crooked cop to wannabe wiseguy, all he does is brag. Hate him..
Like I said scars comes off a lot more believable I think mainly because he doesn't think he's a tough guy, and also doesn't talk himself up.. Which makes him seem more credible..

I think the reason he flipped is because he isn't a tough guy and was scared little nicky wanted him dead..I know scars came up under paulie zack.I think mikey scars would have made a good skipper if he wasnt a pussy I've heard.he wined his way out off hitting frank hydell and he hated the little guy because nicky treated him like a faker. I think it started to fall apart for mikey when junior was boss and mike fucked blaise and lenny on trucking business.lenny fucking smacked him like a girl not a week after he got his button. Pretty embarrassing... But what can you do.. Nothing really. Kind of like the trucchio situation

Re: Mafia with Trevor McDonald - 03/28/15 10:23 AM

Previte is real. He pulls no punches and has no qualms of what he is. He's a scumbag and he knows it and doesn't care. He isn't the typical 90's era Mob rat bullshit artist. He admits he never believed in "Omerta", wasn't in it for "the life" or "brotherhood" and only joined the Mob as a means to make money. It doesn't get any better than that.

No one is going to do anything, especially with a camera crew there.

Re: Mafia with Trevor McDonald - 03/29/15 07:33 AM

Anyone else find it slightly uncomfortable when the Franzese's were eating dinner and Trevor McDonald was standing in the background watching them - probably wishing they would offer him some?

I think they could have offered him a seat at the table. It's pretty rude not to. IDK maybe they don't want the black man eating dinner with them.
Posted By: CleanBandit

Re: Mafia with Trevor McDonald - 03/29/15 07:55 AM

They all probably had food there while the cameras weren't rolling.

That's another thing, you guys complain about questions... I'm sure that in a lot of cases, tricky questions are asked, but they don't get a response that they feel is needed, for whatever reason, so they don't put it in the documentary.

I liked it overall, I'm waiting to see what Ralph Natale has to say.

If you listen to what Alite says to his old lawyer in queens, it sounds like he still gets his haircut in Woodhaven. Clearly no fear to be had. Plus, Alite comes off like a pretty tough guy.

In 2015 NY, with cameras on literally every street corner, there isn't much of a risk anyways.

Trevor McDonald was asked if he wanted some Italian salami.

Trevor smiled and said I got enough salami for two people and winked at Franzese's daughter.

Who was the Irish mob boss that Natale killed?

10 minutes into the 2nd episode, it's embarrassing, Trevor is out of his depth, asking ridiculous questions, he's not done his homework.

Re: Mafia with Trevor McDonald - 03/30/15 05:12 PM

I don't think anyone is the better for watching these two shows. It didn't break any new ground.

And I would rather that toxic charlatan c**t Franzese not get any more air time.

If I have to read or hear one more time "_____ (rat name there) is single handedly responsible for taking down more mobsters than anyone else"
It's like the last mafia don shit.

Oh and these guys walk around now. Ya. I get it. No one wants murders. But he isn't walking around Queens circa 1988 either wink

Re: Mafia with Trevor McDonald - 03/30/15 09:25 PM

Both episodes could've just been made into one 90 min programme, there was nothing new in the 2nd part. I suppose they needed to get more advertisement revenue across both programmes.

All in, fairly good, Mikey Scars info was good as was Alite, although it boiled down to an Alite documentary. I dunno much about him but he seemed a fairly up front and honest guy

Ralph Natale sure did come off as a piece of shit, acting like some powerful super boss, he was just a lightning rod for the feds with no real power, if he had any real power, he would have had joey wacked, instead of trying to rat on him, and failing at that, fucking pos.

Does anyone know if John Alite's voice always sounded like he has been smoking cigarettes and drinking whiskey?

I never heard him talk in his younger years and just curious if he is developing a sickness.

Well that was dogshit last night , it was like the john alite show , I wouldn't mind but the guy couldn't even have been made Even if he wanted to be . Previte and natale r the biggest morons on the planet , hugely disappointing , trevor might aswel just have done a documentary on alite

Re: Mafia with Trevor McDonald - 03/31/15 07:38 AM

i agree Tommy..you could see he did not speak to these guys before and ask what is something people would want to hear. if they do any more of these ,ask questions about the people involved in the life

Re: Mafia with Trevor McDonald - 03/31/15 11:22 AM

overall, worst mob series i've seen so far. All of the NatGeo's are much better and much more informative. they got mikey scars, the only +

Re: Mafia with Trevor McDonald - 03/31/15 11:23 AM

natale and previte were such scumbags hahaha. natale also gave a pretty dumb answer when asked about feeling remorse, hes like, "you kill people because thats what you do in that life, simple" yeah buddy that doesnt really justify killing someone or that it needs to happen in that life because it doesn't "need" to happen. It's something people do in that life, yes, but what you feel is up to you and killing someone over a betrayal is not part of "work " no one is making you kill them but I suppose if you look at it like "if i dont kill this guy, other guys in the life will try to do the same thing" then I guess its business.

Maybe the fee he charged for the interview will be put to good use, like towards a bridge for some new teeth !!

Had to laugh at the comment that he made ''millions'' over the years, and here he is mooching off of and living in his sons apartment..Once a moocher hanger on, always a moocher hanger on !!

Re: Mafia with Trevor McDonald - 04/01/15 12:19 AM

Talk about a disappointment.. This show was fucking horrible.. After part 1 I was still somewhat interested just because of the mikey scars segment.. Then part 2 is like an hour long and they don't even talk to scars in it, he's the most interesting person on the show and he has a 2 minute segment.. Natale and previte both fucking suck. No one cares what they have to say. Also like other people said the questions asked were just shit... And if they make another mob documentary with franzese I'm going to beat my computer with a baseball bat. His same story has been told 1000 times.
Posted By: bronx

Re: Mafia with Trevor McDonald - 04/01/15 07:07 AM

your correct..how could they leave scars out, he has all the stories from the 80's through 2000..looks like the producers loved the alite stuff..

Was John alite a made guy with the Gambinos? Surely if he was only an associate he wasn't as important as the show made him out to be

Alite was albanian. Just because he was an associate doesn't mean he wasn't an earner. Look at people like Joe Watts, Murray Humpreys, Jake Guzik...those guys were pretty much bosses. Other associates took orders from them. Most of the mob is made up of associates anyways...thats where most of the money comes in from, I don't think a lot of people understand the importance of associates and associates who are earners...Look at Carmine Franco...Hes a millionaire many times over.

Re: Mafia with Trevor McDonald - 04/01/15 01:37 PM

While that's true, Alite was nowhere on the level of The Camel, Greasy Thumb, Joe Watts, Jimmy Burke...He wasn't even on the level of Burt Kaplan. Another thing is back then in Chicago, The Outfit wasn't the mafia, there were no blood initiations, Capone did things differently. I'd say about more than half of the Capone gang were Jewish or some other ethnicities besides Italian. Later on after Capone is when it began to resemble a traditional CN family.

Re: Mafia with Trevor McDonald - 04/02/15 02:19 PM

I used to work where Natale was interviewed, Manhattan Inn on Manhattan Ave in Greenpoint Brooklyn. Great bar, shitty place to work.. right next to Jimmy Napoli's HQ back in the day.
