It's Christie digging his heels in again if you ask me. I mean, what do they say when the Feds approach the State's Attorney's Office to create joint task forces? (which happens all the time)

nobody should be arrested for gambling..about time A.C. is going to have sport book rooms. everyone bets football L.E. included…if you can gamble on a lotto why not anything else.

You are exactly right on that, and like the article states no casino would go ahead and start a book because christie says because the feds still say it is illegal....christie should just take it to the ballots in november

but unlike the neighborhood bookie there is so much government bureaucracy that once the vote is a yea, then it won't be up and running for a good year. Government rocks all around....if you want to gamble or stick a needle in your vein as an adult the government should let it roll, and might as well just send everyone who wants in on that over to the left coast and have a free for all with government aid and whatever nobody has to work the government will provide and see how long that utopia works

its just so tired. same convo everytime...next it will be will it affect the wiseguys and the answer is who knows and who cares. time will tell

theres points on both sides and if you say it wont affect the neighborhood book than you are a fanboy, if you say it will affect the neighborhood guy than you will get posters saying you dont know any neighborhood guys so STFU.

either way its old and tired.

i do KNOW this. if I want to bet on sports right now I can and I am assuming most people can to. from my ipad on my couch, not some loud obnoxious casino.

last post on this, promise blush

What was Christie's actual involvement with Fiumara?
I know his aunt was married to Tino's brother, but Christie paid a visit to him while in jail in texas, which leads me to believe there was more going on.

It was already voted. And the voters said yes. However the feds blocked it.

I'm not really sure how much legalized gambling eats into illegal gambling profits...here in PA we have had the lottery for over 30 yrs and it never bothered the books one bit...whether its the lottery or sports wagering, if you've been with a book, you're not going to start playing with the govt...besides the books pay better, and no taxes.

Sports will surely be a different story. But you can't possibly be suggesting that the daily state number didn't have an impact on the street number?

Because here in New York, where the street number was a behemoth, the state number crippled it. Now there are still some dinosaurs who take it and play it. But the state number absolutely decimated the street numer in New York.

There's talk in the gambling community that NJ will charge a higher vig (-120 or higher, rather than the standard -110). In that case all the action they'll get will be casual players without a clue. Mind you, they'll fleece these guys for a fortune with those bad odds, but serious gamblers will continue to bet locally and offshore.

Absolutely correct...only the avg. Joe is going to bet with the govt..they will even draw new bettors, but the guys that always played with the books, always will...why in the world would you start playing with the govt. when the payout is less and then have to pay taxes on it to boot...maybe some will switch over for some unknown reason.

Christie announced today that casinos can immediately start taking sports wagers, w/o fear of prosecution.

Re: Chris Christie and Legalized Sports Books in NJ - 09/10/14 06:16 PM

The guys who grew up betting bookmakers will always bet bookmakers. Period.

It's like I said in my earlier post, it's not like the number game (which the state pretty much destroyed). It's not even like when the OTB came in and put a hurt on the horse books. Because the horse books hurt themselves by limiting the payouts on the exotic bets.

But sports betting is just different. Sports bettors want to bet on credit. And they sure as shit don't want to get off the couch on a Sunday afternoon to bet the Giants.
