Judging by the fact that the average age seems to be about 60, it doesn't look good...

The colombos will be fine , there is enough of a recruitment pool in New York for the colombos to survive

Carmine Persico will still be the Colombo boss in a hundred years.

We can rebuild him. We have the technology. We can make him better than he was. Better, stronger, faster, impervious to indictments.

They have a TON of young guys, mainly sons or nephews following in the footsteps. The charts seem to be way off with the Colombo's.

There definitely the weakest of the 5 families by a distance but they have plenty of family members to replenish the ranks.

Did Massino & Casso really think of absorbing the Colombo family? Dumbest idea ever considering about half the members are blood relatives of Carmine Persico, all loyal. Would've never worked.

If Massino wanted to absorb the Colombo's in the folds of his fat or eat them, then yeah I could see that but WTF was Casso thinking? He's tiny!

The Genovese family has the oldest membership on average. Yet, it's still considered the strongest. There is a definite "aging" of the mob, and that (as part of attrition) has led to the demise of several families around the country, but the NY families have proven to be able to maintain their relative membership sizes. Attrition is impacting them as well, to be sure, but at a much slower rate.

Re: What's the Colombo Family future ? - 08/06/14 02:30 PM

Seems like that list is small cause a couple rats have been inducted in groups in that family since 2000. The Staten island guy Sousa said him in 6 others were made by sonny fransese in 06 you think that was the only group inducted that year. Then Ralph deleo made 6 guys in 07 then I bet tommy shots made his guys then Andy Russo took over he must have made a few. He made guy in jail. That family probably still has the most presense in Brooklyn. And they got a lot of shooters.

Re: What's the Colombo Family future ? - 08/07/14 05:28 AM

I think you need to take in to consideration not just weather there's younger guys available to replace senior members, or if they have shooters/heavy guys available to do work but exactly what the family has left to offer a new recruit besides a button. A lot of the traditional pools of income the mob has "owned" and can offer to a new member have dried up or at the very least been drastically reduced. Labour racketeering through union infiltration and the like is nowhere like it used to be. Standover and extortion is getting harder given most would be victims no longer fear retribution and its very hard to shake down a branch of some multi national company. Government restrictions on industry's like garbage hauling and transportation have put a crimp in the earning potential there. Even online and state sanctioned gambling and payday loan houses have to have put a dent in the bookmaking and shy industry. Beside the fact that as well as the actual members getting older and dying off, so are their contacts in legitimate business.
Im not saying this doesn't go on, but it aint a patch on what it used to be. This leaves drugs. Your now walking in a world of bikers, street gangs and the like or if you do manage to climb the tree ,cartels or large syndicates well beyond the scope of neighbourhood thugs. A smart criminal going down this road has to ask himself if being associated with an LCN family with its heightened survallience and close scrutiny is the best way to go. The days of a father or capo passing an ongoing racket onto his son/nephew/new member are over.
I think the way of the future for the crime family's is diversifying, like they have been, into the more sophisticated crimes...credit fraud, online scams, stock manipulation etc. which will lead to a smaller membership requirement and also a need for a more selective quality of recruit. I think this will ultimately lead to the larger family's slowly amalgamating the smaller ones as they themselves begin a refinement process for quality over quantity as a matter of survival. The mob can no longer stand toe to toe with some of the other big players that are not only prepared to resort to violence, its usually their first response.
That being said...there's always gonna be some young Guido that's watched the godfather and goodfellas one time to many and buys right into the hype..what do I know.

Re: What's the Colombo Family future ? - 08/07/14 07:27 AM

Now fortunately the Italian-Americans no longer have the hunger like their grandparents that lived in the various little italies. But what made strong the mafia, which it deal not only on street crime but also with white-collar crimes, so the fact that families have decreased in number doesn't mean that their power has waned.
Could simply increase the number of associates that would do the dirty work, while the new made men could only deal with white-collar crimes.

The commission wanted to defunctionalize the family and let Lucchese take the remains. Massino got 'em out of it however.
