Boston DiNunzio Brothers Part of the Outfit - 01/06/14 10:04 PM

In 1992, Johnny DiFronzo, Sam Carlisi, Don Angelini and multiple others were arrested for organized crime activities in California. Also arrested were Anthony and Carmen DiNunzio. The brothers were described as members of the Outfit's West Coast crew.

When did they make the switch to Patriarcha? Are they originally from Boston or Chicago?

The are originally from boston's east bosotn known as eastie alot of gangster's come there but the skipped town when they owed a gangster named dee dee gioacchini 80,000 they borrowed to deal pot. They asked to borrow the money but never payed it back so they skipped town. Fat cheese started by running errands for anguilo in the late 70's early 80's best known for making coffee. Went to the west coast dont know how or who they hooked up there but I know they had to payoff the debt over there to make things good and after they did their time, for the indictment you mentioned, they return home with the blessing either from frank salemme i believe or Sonny Boy Rizzo and the quintina's uncle and nephew. But in the early 2000's there was almost a big beef that only a few knows about and it was because of them. Dee Dee wasnt to happy about the whole situation and he wanted them clipped so he made a few threats, couple fishes was thrown around in front doors of homes, couple silent approvals from capo's, some shots fired, people seen it was getting out of hand and two things happened.. pretty matty, capo from providence calm things down with a sit down and indictments of a few major players like simone, dee dee, white and few others and that calmed things down all the way. And fat cheese dinuzio moved up the ranks pretty fast for having his own little crew of costa, gambales(the younger brother and son)billy anglesesco, rosetti and few others and not backing down to the violent and ferocious tandem of simone, dee, spunk and that crowd. fast forward and the rest is history

Joerusso described it best above. The story of how the arrangement to repay the money owed to Gioacchini is said to have been when Boston got in touch with Chicago about the debt the brothers owed and to make sure that the other families realized that the brothers still belonged to Boston, and that San Francisco mobster Phil Maita brokered a payment deal on the matter.

Dee Dee, Simone, and Frank White, big Eastie loanshark all got caught on wiretap making threats and thought they should have been the ones who were running things, not the Big Cheese. Pretty Matty did broker a truce and DeeDee and crew were no longer permitted to report to the North End, they were told to report to Providence and leave the Dinunzios alone. The dead fish was left on one guys porch , but there were never any shots fired during the beef.

No shots was fired ville believe me shots was fired and it got pretty ugly buddy. what happen was spucky didnt want the shit to go on and was telling them to leave it alone or he wasnt going to be backing them and simone got mad and was saying fuck that because spucky was siding with dinunzio and listening to higher ups when simone felt like they shouldve been siding with dee dee from day one. so they took on themselves to go to pretty matty and see if he can calm things down and see where the administration was really saying since matty was a capo in providence with manocchio and if matty was acting funny in any way he was going to get clipped shot on sight. AND DEE DEE is from eastie, the shark/bookie is from wakefield but lives in eastie and simone is from my neighborhood NORTH END but lives outside boston somewhere.

Ok here's what really happened (the beef, joe is talking about). Dinunzios borrowed money from one of anguilos guys Dee Dee...Dee Dee was going to kill them and he did not forget until they came back after they had the sitdown Dee Dee went to the florida marshes and brought back a giant alligator by helicopter and tried to drop it on the house of the dinunzios but the FBI shot missiles that blew up the alligator and Dee Dee which killed him before he could drop the alligator on the house....

Hence the Dinunzios still live to this day (in jail)

I know it got real ugly, and ok yea dead fish were thrown in Dee Dees hallway and another unmentioned person. But Im still saying no shots were fired. And they werent gonna kill Pretty Matty on sight if he didnt go along with them. They had that sitdown to try and get permission to take over the reigns in Boston and were told they couldnt, but were to not associate with the Dinunzio crew, and report directly to Providence. They probably could have taken over tho, they had alot of bookies under their control, Vinny Riberto, The Greek, Mike Deprozi, Zampata,. The Rat was selling drugs for Freddie and Luisi was diming them out the whole time this was going on. And they were collecting rent from alot more, Simone was even trying to get back rent for the years he was locked up and he felt he should be boss up here when he got out of prison cause he felt it was owed to him. It probably would have turned into a shooting match, but Louie threw his support behind the Big Cheese and told the other crew to forget about it and then the 3 of them got locked up in 03 and by then the fued had already died

I always wondered what the story was around the DiNunzio's...in fact, the casino that they were trying to muscle in on in San Diego was called the Rincon Indian Casino, and back in 1998, Pittsburgh's LaRocca Crime Family members Henry Zottola, Pasquale Feruccio, John "Duffy" Conley, Lenny Strollo and Dominic Strollo were subsequently indicted for bribing an official at the casino to push their license through.

I was never a fan of Anthony DiNunzio and felt that he did the family more harm than anything else, on top of making an asshole out of himself with Nicky Skins. Baby Shacks is one of my favorite bosses in mob history, a true, old school Mafioso.

I definitely agree with you JCB on your last paragraph. Anthony was a goof and fucked up alot shit for the family. As Russo has said before there were many old timers up here that could have filled Louie's spot, not as good as Shacks cause he is one of a kind in my eyes. I look at him as one of the last true honorable mafia members as well, but he could have installed, Spucky, The Animal, Jimmy Martorano and some other fellas and things would have ran much smoother. But the big dickhead Anthony, thought he was some old school tough guy who could run a family, when alls he could do was shoot off,at the mouth. The rest of them were too smart to fill that, position especially when all the heat was on with the strip club exortions

I am not as well versed as you guys regarding the players and their backgrounds, but have self educated myself on who they are, what their ranks were etc. You guys have a step up with knowing some of these guys personally, but after reading the transcripts of Anthony running his mouth, it made the office look real bad as far as him being incompetent. It's hard for me to believe that Peter Limone actually passed over the reigns to Anthony/Carmen considering he had long standing ties with some of the old timers...but then again, I see your point as far as "nobody" wanting the big chair due to government scrutiny...especially since New England has had a lot of heat over the last 5-7 years, especially with the strip club rackets. When does Matty Gugliemetti get out of prison? Does he have the leadership capability in your opinion? Also, I have to believe that Bobby DeLuca has given the Feds more than the strip club case...maybe the inner workings of the New England LCN, the players? No way IMO did he get to skate by providing "minimal" charges like the strip club extortion. And I agree, Baby Shacks was one of the last of the mohicans and I love his parting line to the Feds: "You gotta die somewhere!" That was classic Baby Shacks.

Those fatfuck brothers were never "part" of the Outfit.

They flew the coup from Boston to escape and debt and headed to Los Angeles, where a ton of other Boston guys were working at the time. After Tony Spilotro was killed, the Outfit needed to reign in all of his loanshark customers and that directive was given to Spilotro's former underling Chris "The Greek" Petti. Petti was based on the West Coast at the time and when he went looking for a few large and intimidating "collectors," he was referred to the DiNunzios.

So Petti had the DiNunzios head to Las Vegas and travel throughout Cali and Nevada collecting Spilotro's debts from guys like Joe "The Pig" Pignatello. Thus they were merely hired muscle (or hired blubber in this case) from an Outfit associate. Neither brother ever got close to the Outfit's made members, but I do know for a fact that Bobby Dominic (who was sent by Chicago to Vegas as a replacement for Spilotro and now hangs in Grand Avenue at his bar "Richards") became close with Carmen DiNunzio and perhaps still keeps in contact. Dominc was the brothers main contact when Petti sent them to Vegas. They also met with Herbie Blitzstein I would assume, who ran Spilotro's loansharking.

I do know for a fact that Blitzstein, Carmen & Peter Milano (sons of Anthony Milano, former Cleveland Boss and Consigliere)had some Boston guys who collected for them and were tied up with the outfit as well. If it wasn't for Anthony Milano, Herbie would have never became what he was out there, as he was tied up with the old Mayfield Road Mob headed by Anthony & Frank Milano known as the kings of Murray Hill. Carmen & Peter Milano couldn't hold a cup of coffee for their dad and uncle Frank, as they were a couple spoiled brats who were sent to L.A. by their father who had tight control over a few major Hollywood studio's and quite a few unions relating to the Hollywood scene. In fact, I can't remember if it was Peter or Carmen Milano, but one of them was a lawyer who got disbarred and then became a high ranking member in L.A.

Carmen was the lawyer, he was jammed up in worksman comp fraud case with charlie Cassaro the Cleveland mob captains son. Carmen also was a dry snitch he even offered to come to Cleveland and wear a wire for the feds in the late 90's I think it was.

Re: Boston DiNunzio Brothers Part of the Outfit - 01/07/14 06:14 PM

Herbie was a Chicago guy who grew up near Melrose Park and started working with Lombardo and Tony Spilotro under Phil Alderisio. Herbie started building a large loanshark operation, aided largely by Phil's crew who pushed clients his way. What I've hear is that poor Herbie went to prison in the 1960s and when he came out, his racket had been taken over. He was also being investigated for a murder in Chicago and thus there wasn't much point sticking around.

So he went to Vegas to follow Spilotro, who had been made while Herbie was in jail and ran Spilotro's loanshark books.

I'm sure Herbie knew the Milano's, but he had deeper and higher connections in Chicago. He was with the Grand Avenue crew and probably was still sending them a cut all the way up until he was killed.

I'm sorry, I got carried away with the writing...I meant Moe Dalitz from Cleveland.

My point was that Herbie became what he was because of who he grew up around in Chicago and the Grand Avenue Crew, not Cleveland.

Ironic, because my post was the exact same point that Moe Dalitz and even Morris Kleinman gained all their power through Anthony & Frank Milano who ran the original Mayfield Road Mob in Cleveland before the John Scalish era.

Is Anthony still "acting" boss like he bragged about being if he were indicted or have the guys that are still active had enough with him? Since there are Capos still out on the street, are they kicking up to the top 3 positions (if the top 3 have been filled)?
