Scarfo sr's mentality

Scarfo sr's mentality - 08/01/13 11:43 PM

After reading Leonetti's book Mafia Prince a few months back I couldn't believe how passionate Scarfo sr was about the life. He was truly a calculated devoted mafioso. I believe if he never was made the big cheese he would of had a longer career then he had as the paranoia and the murders would have been less eg he could never have killed sal testa without being the boss. He understood what moves to make. When Phil Testa was killed the book gave us an insight into how he outmaneuvered Narducci et al with ease.

I cant stand that weak rat who is in denial Leonetti but the book was a great read due to the fact that we got an insight into Scarfo's mind and also the crazy years of the philly mob when they still were pretty strong (in relation to now). 2nd favourite mafia book behind joe bonnano a man of honour for me.

Agree that Nicky Sr. knew This Thing inside and out. After he stabbed the longshoreman at the Melrose and was banished to AC he was in Bruno's doghouse but still showed a respect for the protocol and hierarchy that LCN must possess to succeed and survive... Seems like a bygone era...same goes for his nephew Phil and Chuckie and Yogi Merlino, despite the fact that 2 of the 3 flipped and and only Leonetti is still alive. You have to wonder what the Philly family would look like today if Sal Testa or Mike Ciancaglini ever ran the show. They call Carmine Persico "The Snake", but Scarfo was downright treacherous, paranoid, and psychotic...yet still 100% committed to the life...24-7.

Oh absolutely Scarfo Sr. most definately deserves the nick name the snake, and it was actually the Oregon diner where he stabbed that guy not the Melrose

Word. With that all that paranoid, trecherous psychosis, you think he would have been able to spot a rat in his nephew?

The guy was a fucking nut haha what's there to talk about? I'm more interested in current Philly affairs than the guy who made them unstable as hell

I'm surprised he didn't whack Phil before they all got nailed ... He wanted to off everyone who was close to him at some point - true psychotic. He would have had a much longer career if he wasn't elevated - he went by the rules and said the boss is the boss...

Re: Scarfo sr's mentality - 08/02/13 02:42 AM

Sorry, you are right. Scarfo shivved William Dugan at the Oregon in '63 and Frank Baldino was whacked at the Melrose 30 years later...same fate as Mario Riccobene in the same year at The Brooklawn

Whacking people for little or no reason i will call Him Crazy off his rocker Crazy

Re: Scarfo sr's mentality - 08/02/13 03:19 AM

That was John Veasey who took out Frank Baldino at the Melrose.

Streetbossliborio it wasn't a letter if it's the comment i'm thinking of, it was a phone conversation that was recorded by the prison. Scarfo told Nicky jr to "take him (Merlino) out to dinner".

Yeah I mean if Leonetti is telling the truth, and I do beleive him, Scarfo wanted his wife cut ear to ear. Had the house not falling down on him he would of in the next year killed both Merlinos, Joey Merlino, the Grandes and probably Leonetti if he showed any resistance.

He put a contract on merlino from jail and no one touched him, he tried to make his son the boss and merlino chased him out of phillie, if jr was anything like his pops he would have put up a fight

Yeah you can't expect a yahoo like Jr. to do it. Im saying Chuckie and Lawrence fell out of favor with Scarfo towards the end and had the whole gang not went away it would of been done, take your pick, Faffy, the Narducci's, the Grandes, the Milanos, Leonetti himself, im sure they all would of gladly done Joey in.

Yep, Nicky sr put out a 500k contract on Merlino. When the local tv reporter Dave Schratwieser told Merlino about it Joey said to give him the 500k and he'd shoot himself. lol

No doubt if Scarfo's guys weren't all locked up they would of been gunning for Joey.

Look at how close Veasey came to taking out both Mike Chang and Merlino for Stanfa. But Joey's a lucky guy and just took a shot to the ass. Chang wasn't as lucky.

Another time a couple of Stanfa's morons put a pipe bomb under merlino's car. It didn't go off and Joey was driving all over south philly dragging that bomb around.

Battaglia testified about it. "On one occasion, Battaglia said, he and another mobster planted a pipe bomb under Merlino's car and then watched, stunned, as Merlino got in and drove away, dragging the bomb under the car as they tried futilely to detonate the device by remote control.

``We're hitting the remote. Nothing,'' Battaglia testified. ``It isn't blowing up or nothing.''

Scarfo Jr didn't have the mentality that his father had but I wouldn't call him a yahoo. As he got older he was quite the earner...much better then Merlino. Always had a new scam along with the older ones. He was actucally pretty smart. some say a computer nerd.

Re: Scarfo sr's mentality - 08/02/13 07:10 PM

Yeah on one of his indictments it said Nicky jr was aka Mr MacIntosh and Mr Apple. He had the first big case of the feds putting a keylogger on his encrypted pc but they wouldn't say how or when they did it. It was going through the courts and then 9/11 happened and Nicky took a plea deal i think. It turned out that the password to his encrypted pc was his fathers federal prisoner number.

But Nicky is sitting in jail and he has 2 major cases he's looking at. Real good chance between both of them with his priors that he'll be an old man when he gets out of prison. I just don't understand how guys like him who do have some brains can think it's worth it.

Really?

lol

Should've just made it simpler for the feds and used his own birthdate or SSN.

Scarfo is damn lucky that his murder marathon didn't panic some of his paranoid gang members into pulling a premptory strike. He would have made an easy target for a sniper while sneaking through that alley behind his home. He is where he belongs forever

Yeah....the feds should of been able to crack that password in minutes with a brute force attack on the password. Especially an easy password like Nicky used.

Heres an article on it. The password was NDS09813-050

I don't doubt his smarts, but he was a yahoo when it came to being a street guy. By the sounds of these frauds he was in he probably would of been well off in the legitimate world, unfourtunatley he had to be the son of Nicky Scarfo.
