Organized crime in Forest Hill (Little Bukharia)

Organized crime in Forest Hill (Little Bukharia) - 07/18/13 08:55 AM

I have heard that Forest Hill in Queens -also called 'Little Bukharia' thanks to the large Bukharian Jewish community- has become a hotbed of criminal activity. Does anyone have more information on this?

i dont know what the fuck bukrarians are but the only reason forest hill is such a shitty hood is bc its black. Not being racist, just how it is. Ever heard of a up scale, safe black neighborhood? yeah me either...

Found an article about a Bukharian Jewish gangster named Mani Chulpayev.
Code of Betrayal, Not Silence

Bukharians are Jews from Central Asia btw.

all the way from Jersey, the sage "Skinny" tells us all about Queens. You might want back up a few steps and reconsider your "knowledge" of Forest Hills, however, in case the other city kids see this.

It's easy to fool the Belgians but regardless of your racism, it's also obvious you know NOTHING about Queens or Forest Hills, where there are many many many more 'dark skinned' Asians of various ethnic backgrounds than there are 'black' Americans.

if anyone who DOES know Queens wants to try Jewish Uzbek food, there's a joint in Kew Gardens that kills. "Skinny" doesn't deserve to know about it so I'm keeping it DL here.

I live in forest hills and it's one of the most expensive places to live in queens and is probably 1 percent black.... So I'm a little lost on this one...

As far as Bukharians as criminals.... I don't think they are in to much other than insurance scams and stuff like that

I tend to agree. But first things first:

Skinny is no racist. He's a great kid and one of the few remaining sane voices on this board. That being said, I think he's confusing the south end of Queens Boulevard, down by Hillside Avenue, for Forest Hills. That section of Forest Hills borders on Jamaica, which isn't a great place to live. And the further south you go, the worse it gets.

Now I'm a Bronx guy, but I'm in Queens at least three times a week when I'm in New York. And from what I can see---and I've spent tons of time there---Forest Hills is beautiful. High end apartment buildings on the main drag (Queens Boulevard and the neighboring cross streets from Jewel Avenue south to around Union Turnpike), great restaurants on Austin Street, and million dollar private homes off the beaten path. It's a very pretty and very expensive area. I happen to know a thing or two about real estate. And I'll tell you right now, a two bedroom in one of those buildings is going to run you close to two grand a month, if not more.

As far as the Bukharians go, I doubt there's much OC activity other than peripheral links to the Russians. And if they are involved in OC, they're doing a great job of keeping it out of the neighborhood.

Thanks for sharing your knowledge. The article I've shared is a bit dated of course. So maybe things took a turn for the better.

Pizzaboy-- as a fellow pizza professional, I'll accept your explanation of Skinny but obviously his unfounded aside DOES come off as racist.

Likewise, if we want to talk serious Queens, St. Albans and Hollis are both long time bastions of the black middle to upper middle class-- and both, as a whole, lots classier than any # of majority white Jersey shitholes.

Queens has all sorts of 'hoods true-- Queensbridge, Rockaway projects, parts of Jamaica etc-- but to say Forest Hills is one, or a black neighborhood, period, is not just nonsense but factually wrong, though I'm sure there are some East European/Asian crime interests there... just like there's LCN in Maspeth, Middle Village etc... Ridgewood is interesting borderland in more ways than one but I'm not Romanian enough to say more.

One thing I'd be curious to learn about is what factions run, say, Elmhurst and Flushing, and how they relate, if at all, to the BK and Manhattan Chinatowns.

I'm not a pizza professional. My username came from "There's Something About Mary." When I signed up here seven years ago it happened to be playing on the television in the background. When I was prompted for a username, it was the first thing that popped into my mind.

Are you Romanian, Cono?

Bullshit. Doesn't matter he has the facts wrong (about which neighborhood is being discussed). He made a statement based on his belief that the neighborhood sucked because it was black. That's not a stereotypical racist view?????

You gotta stop making statements like this on these boards. I can't tell you how you should think or believe, but this type of statement is not acceptable for the GBB.

I just read the post when you quoted it, SC. And it was a poor choice of words to say the very least blush.

Would love to live in Forest Hills and get away from the new flight patterns out of LaGuardia. Absolute hell now in northeast Queens. 77 decibels inside the house with windows closed. Thanks chuck schumer.

Re: Organized crime in Forest Hill (Little Bukharia) - 07/19/13 04:04 AM

Forest Hills is very unique because it is surrounded by all different demographics. Woodhaven and Queens blvd by the mall has very mixed pop. (Spanish/Indian/Asian) Hillside and Queens blvd is more Briarwood not Forest Hills but the further south you go on Queens blvd yes it gets more hood. As for Forest Hills, mostly Rego Park actually there is active OC. Walk on 108th st at night after Sun down on sat and you'll see them all out. It's unique because they use it as cover because the Shabbas is ending and you see them all congregate. As for their activity all Russian OC leads back to Brighton but there schemes are mostly white collar. Investment fraud during the dot com boom. Mortgages when that was the hot scam and now diamonds and gold especially on 47th street in Manhattan they all have family over there so it's easy to find a fence. The kids and younger generation get in trouble more and are more "loud" with their activities but they are mostly small time and do it for popularity whereas the old timers come from the former Soviet Union and are tough/secretive people. You wouldn't even know they were connected, but this is common among old school immigrant gangsters. While it's not like an old school Italian neighborhoods (Arthur Avenue or Bensonhurst) there is a reason Rego Park/Forest Hills remains predominatly American Jewish and Bukharian while all around the demographics are changing.

Woodhaven?!?!?! There are less black folks in Woodhaven than there are in Forest Hills. Even if you meant Woodside it's still ridiculous. Woodhaven is by far majority "Hispanic" with some vestigal Irish/Italian elements and depending on where you put the border, some spillover Bangladeshi/Indian.

Whatever Skinny may not or may "mean" in his posts, he knows nothing about Queens.

For out of towners, Woodhaven is adjacent East New York, Brooklyn on one side, Ozone Park and Richmond Hill, Queens the others; a real city park, Forest Park, is on its northern border. Though ENY is definitely rough in spots, industrial in others, it also has very nice, if non-white, areas, etc.

Clearly he confused neighborhoods...no big deal

@pizzaboy... you are right.. a two bedroom goes for over 2k a month on queens blvd.. Austin St is a very big shopping are..a lot of nice restaurants.. ContinentalAVE is an express stop to Manhattan... its very pricey

I hope I can stay !

I'm from Ridgewood, Grove St to be exact, and I was just there a couple weeks ago visiting my grandparents who are on Gates Ave, and there's still a lot of Slavic people there, some hispanic, but I'd say still a lot of white families living there. I spent countless days at Forest Park. I don't really think that particular neighborhood has changed all that much from when I was living there.

I find myself in the Kew Gardens/Forest Hills section quite a bit. It's a great place. Gorgeous in the summer. Lots of luxury condos, restaurants, and a little village in Kew Gardens with some eastern european restaurants and an indie movie theatre. My only question is, where does a dumb Irish mick like myself get a drink? Seems to be very little Italians/Irish in this area...

Taphouse and Station House (just opened, really good food) on Austin St or Blackwater Inn on Metropolotian and Continental

If you're just looking for an old time "gin mill" type of Irish bar, there's an O'Hanlons on Queens Boulevard just north of Union Turnpike. It's one or two stores away from the CVS. But like you posted, the crowd isn't Irish because the neighborhhod isn't Irish. But the place definitely has that old New York Irish vibe. I know this because I'm a middle aged Italian American, and when I go in there I look lost lol.

But all kidding aside, if you're looking for Irish pubs with an Irish crowd, you should try Woodside. That area is loaded with them.
