If he's not retired i'd guess Larry Dentico. If not possibly Silvio DeVita?

There are/were five Westside crews in Nj. No overall boss, just the capos (per Picasso, and he knows):

Silvio Devita's crew
Gatto's crew
Ninny Brusci's crew
Anthony Palumbo's crew
Tino's Crew

Tino is dead; Gatto dead; Palumbo in jail..don't remember who took over those crews. But they still exist - five crews, five capos - no overall Jersey boss. The bosses are in the bronx: QD, Ernie Muscarella, and Barney. Take your pick on who is really boss. The Genovese soldiers don't evem know. LOL

DeVita is in hot water as we speak! Believe they just got him on tape in the last week or so.

From what I'm told it's a Rat, they were working with a guy. They squeezed him to hard so he ran to the Cops. I'm not sure if it's in papers yet. Needless to say I don't have fifty sourced stories but I'm sure it will be news soon.

How i remember it, theres Down Neck (T), Belleville(SD), Nutley (Red), Passaic (and bayonne) (Pepe/Prisco), Union (Ninny), and Hudson (Larry). Ts crew is split into 2 crews basically, Docks and street shit.... Theres also Barbato who is into construction in NJ... Allie Malangone is into Garbage out here as is Ts guys. Mario G has biz out here....

East, this the same guy we were talkin about last week? The crybaby haha? That crew is fucked, Skins was real close to SD. If its the same guy i mean, SD might not be the only big guy going down...

Gerardo retired around the same time Lincoln got assassinated! My bad I thought you were doing a little history run down of crews. If so he's a guy who needs to be listed! IMO anyway.

Besides being Andy's nephew he is a very capable guy. Shit he had a casino in the Bronx, that says alot for them to let a Jersey guy into the city.

I don't know why it surprises people that news like this hits the street long before it hits the papers. I don't want to be a dick and say it's old news, but they've been worried about this guy for awhile now.

Harlem born and East Bronx based, but he had TONS going on in Jersey. Trust me on that.

Prico was a heavy, thing is he was always identified as a Harlem/ Bronx guy? Think he was smart how he avoided the Blade in Jersey and did his own thing. Oil and water there!

Prisco got Johnny Ds Bayonne rackets when he died if i remember right. Pepe LaScala was his jersey point man.

Re: Genovese NJ current boss - 02/13/13 04:34 PM

Digiulio was what you call a "hostile takeover/ forced early retirement" was split several ways. Prisco and the Blades crew got most of it. Think the Blade was making license plates when all that happened.

Barone was originally an NYC locals guy, got tossed from all official ILA business. He was more like "trouble shooter". Yes very tough guy, got old, got placed on a hit list and went Rat! Felt betrayed

Serpiente, That guy was exposed as a fraud. Check out the Realdeaforum on him. His name is Mike Russell. Here is an article that exposes him and his book.
The Cop who handled him said it's only 20% truth and that he wasn't shot but instead got his ass kicked!

Mike Russell writes that he helped take down wiseguy Vincent 'The Chin' Gigante, who is pictured here. Russell is not in this photograph.
Star-Ledger file photo

As an undercover New Jersey state trooper, Mike Russell says he infiltrated the mob and brought down dozens of wiseguys, all after taking a .32-caliber bullet to the head. It is quite the tale told in “Undercover Cop: How I Brought Down the Real-Life Sopranos,” which was released Aug. 6.

Publisher’s Weekly gave it a glowing review, writing, “This tell-all page-turner is all the better for being true.”

Except it’s not entirely true. Some important facts are at best stretched, at worst fabricated.

Mike Russell was never employed as a New Jersey state trooper, according to State Police Sgt. Brian Polite.

That isn’t to say he didn’t work with, or for, the State Police, but he was never a trooper as he claims on Page 3.
Nor was he ever a Newark cop, according to Newark Sgt. Ron Glover, as Russell claims to have been on Page 86.

Russell, in a phone interview from his home in Florida, acknowledged the error.

“The titles were bouncing all over the place,” he said, but he maintained the crux of the story is about him and the mob, not the agency he worked for.

Speaking of titles, the book refers to Russell’s State Police contact James “Big Jim” Sweeney as a Master Sergeant — a rank that does not exist in the New Jersey State Police.

The crux of the story, if not the details, appears to be accurate. Russell, who says he was known as “Mikey Ga-Ga,” was indeed influential in helping take down major figures in organized crime, said retired State Police Capt. Nick Oriolo, whose name is misspelled in the book.

Oriolo was his handler and described Russell’s role as more akin to a confidential informant than a trooper. That doesn’t diminish his importance in the case, the retired trooper said.

Russell did infiltrate the mob and did pass on valuable information, Oriolo said. But Oriolo estimates that only about 20 percent of the book is true. He does not recall Russell being shot in the head, which the book describes as a very emotional moment for the State Police sergeant, who was “blubbering” at Russell’s bedside.

Oriolo remembers the scene differently. He remembers Russell being beat up almost beyond recognition, but not shot in the head.

“I never talked to (Russell’s) wife about being shot,” Oriolo said. “Real-life Sopranos? This reads more like his real-life fantasy.”

Russell writes that the bullet, fired at point-blank range, did relatively little damage, entering his skull, bouncing off bone and exiting an inch above the entrance wound.

“Note to would be hitmen,” he writes. “If you’re going to whack someone, use a round that can kill.”

The book is published by Thomas Dunne Books, an imprint of St. Martin’s Press, a division of Macmillan, and the publisher is standing by the story.

Mike Russell was shot in the head, said Joe Rinaldi, associate director of publicity at St. Martin’s Press.

“Mike Russell’s publisher has every reason to believe ‘Undercover Cop’ is substantially accurate,” Rinaldi said in an e-mail. “According to Mike Russell’s account, which is consistent with the 1988 HBO documentary, Mike was a New Jersey cop who worked undercover for the New Jersey State Police. The main focus of his book is an undercover operation that resulted in numerous mobsters pleading guilty and doing jail time.”

Inconsistencies

Except — in many places — the book is not consistent with the HBO documentary in which Russell said he was a truck driver before his undercover work began, not a Newark cop. The movie, which can be found on YouTube, finds Russell saying he received 60 stitches because of the bullet wound he suffered in 1980. In the book, it’s down to 28 stitches and though the year isn’t mentioned, it is implied that it is the mid '80s.

In the documentary, Russell says he was an East Orange cop before trying something else with his life. That part checks out. He was, in fact, an East Orange cop, though his stint with that local department is never mentioned in the book.

There are other inconsistencies between the documentary and the book as well. Talking to HBO cameras, Russell says he made contact with Andy Gerardo, a top man in the Genovese crime family, after coming upon him at the scene of an auto accident where he was being attacked by “two black guys.”

In the book, the two black men are mugging Gerardo when Russell intervenes. In the documentary, this is the genesis of the undercover work. In the book, Russell has been on the job for months, looking for a way to infiltrate the mob.

Serpiente, on the books amazon page, Russell has his book endorsed by George Anastasia who wrote on his book,
"Nobody did undercover better than Mike Russell. His story is grittier than The Sopranos, more volatile than Goodfellas. A must read." —George Anastasia, author of The Last Gangster and The Goodfella Tape"
I guess besides Anastasia and Dave Schratwieser was also played by Russell too on his TV show. Kudos to the Star Ledger for exposing this guy!

Re: Genovese NJ current boss - 09/06/13 09:21 PM

That guy Russell according to all the North Jersey guys on the different forums is said to be a real asshole. He's not a cop in any form and in one of the papers he said he was following Merlino all around south florida keeping an eye on him. What a douchebag.
Posted By: Beanshooter

Re: Genovese NJ current boss - 09/06/13 09:21 PM

On RealdealForum a long time poster claims he was an East Orange cop at one time and was let go. No idea why, but he surfaces on his homemade hbo tape as a truck driver and then supposedly approcahes the NJ State Police to work. According to the article he was a rat. If you google the NJ Star ledger and read the first article on him which was positive and before he was exposed, there are so many guys who were or Are Troopers commenting on him and tearing him a new one. He was no cop, trooper or fed on this operation. Why he is tailing Skinny Joey I have no idea. I guess loves the spotlight and the fact that he fooled Anastasi and Schratwiser.

No such thing as boss of jersey. Danny Leo is a bronx guy. They called tony palumbo boss of jersey or something when he was just danny leos messenger when leo was boss. Palumbo was actually a bx guy originally. I think originally he was in benny eggs or farby or someones crew. He married andy gerards (newark capo) daughter. When he was acting for danny he supervised a jersey crew himself. He went back and forth between the nj based captains. Thats all. A lot of ny guys have had strong presences in jersey. Not just an agent or two... Going back too. QD, Prisco, Barney, Leo, Barbato, Malangone.... Even if u think back, chin had jersey guys who went to dentico who also was a ny guy originally. Matty horse, benny eggs. sally dogs lombardi was a bk guy with a nj crew. The closest thing to a boss would be larry dentico due to his closeness with gigante and cirillo and mangano. Although i doubt hes carrying any messages.

Palumbo didn't marry Gerardo's daughter he was Gerardo's nephew, his sisters boy.
He's from NJ originally answered to a Bronx crew...

Which one? Leo´s, Cirillo´s, Bellomo´s, Ardito´s, Parello´s, Prisco´s, Denti´s, Santobello´s? Or was it Mario Gigante´s crew he answered to?

Rudy Santibello died recently.

He was managing not only his Social club, but Mario Gigante's as well.

Any idea who's taken over? Both Rudy and Mario's crews?

I honestly don't know who was his skipper, however he's born and raised in NJ NOT NY. People forget but Bronx is closer to Jersey than it is say Brooklyn...You're 15 minutes away by GW brigde so Bronx and Jersey guys always were close...Case in point Tony Carminati
