Re: Frank Calabrese Sr dead - 12/27/12 06:48 PM

Wonder if he and Joey Lombardo had any contact while in prison? Joey is/was also in the same medical unit of that prison in North Carolina. Frank was a really bad guy, but his family is still grieving in their own way. RIP.

Re: Frank Calabrese Sr dead - 12/27/12 09:00 PM

I hope his son enjoys not being able to show up to his own fathers funeral. That would be a death sentence. Its really worth it to be a rat now isn't it? Yeah ok!

Re: Frank Calabrese Sr dead - 12/27/12 09:24 PM

I was thinking the same thing. Will Frank Jr go to the funeral when there is a good chance mobsters will be there? Or will it be family only?

Re: Frank Calabrese Sr dead - 12/28/12 01:00 AM

Who knows. I doubt it. But it's not like they would knock him down right there.

If you go to ANP there is an interesting article based on a picture Calabrese Jr. recently took with one of DiFronzo's good friends/associates, which really threw Fosco for a loop: What on earth would this good friend/associate of DiFronzo be doing palling around with a GW like Calabrese Jr.?

I'm not a conspiracy theorist but it does raise some interesting questions.

Wow, did not know that. It should raise eyebrows and questions. There can't be a "good" reason for that in the eyes of the others.

Re: Frank Calabrese Sr dead - 01/03/13 10:28 PM

What if Frank Calabrese is still involved in the mob? What if the whole thing with his father was to try to fool the feds?

We will never know but that would be a good reason on why he was recently seen with an associate.

Re: Frank Calabrese Sr dead - 01/03/13 10:35 PM

Stupidest theory ive heard in a while.
Posted By: Wilson

Re: Frank Calabrese Sr dead - 01/03/13 10:36 PM

Well why would he be with an associate? No fucking way the mob allows that to happen unless something is going on. How the fuck does a rat hang out with a mob guy? WTF?

Re: Frank Calabrese Sr dead - 01/03/13 10:48 PM

Bro that shit goes on all the time, how do you even know the associate is really an associate? Ill give you an example, when Johnny Blue was arrested a few years ago, every one he was arrested with (like 40 guys) were labeled genovese associates! Only maybe 4 or 5 actually were, and Johnny Blue. Plus theres rats all over the place, a lot of them are still on the street. Maybe hes a friend he grew up with. Not every single person ever associated with a family is gonna kill a guy on the spot for being a rat,in fact truethfully most wont.

Well if he was an associate he should have atleast beat the fuck out of him. Whack that son of a bitch and thats a one way ticket to moving up the ranks. I guess he is just a "friend."

Anyone who was hungry would have nailed that fucker when they had the chance. Fuck that rat cocksucker.

lol why are you so aggravated by it for. He ratted out his dad not you.

Even the other calabrese brother who didnt rat hated his dad as well so who gives a fuck.
Also if they are allowing mob wives why are they gonna go kill a rat.
Posted By: Wilson

Re: Frank Calabrese Sr dead - 01/03/13 11:23 PM

If he is telling the truth and said that his dad had a "Good" side, then why rat him out? Because his father was tough on him and he was on drugs which caused him to steal hundreds of thousands of dollars from his own father? Then he claims that it was because he felt he was owed that. Thats such a bunch of crap.

Frank Jr. was on drugs when he made the choices he did. Then when he sobered up, he regretted it and was afraid that he was going to get in trouble with his father and knew he had to face the music. He turned to the feds to help him.

Bottom line the guys fucked in the head and took the pussy way out.

Simply that is a bunch of fucking bullshit and no excuse. Sorry I do not feel sorry for you at all. No I do not. GO fuck yourself Mr. Calabrese.

Re: Frank Calabrese Sr dead - 01/03/13 11:39 PM

who gives shit. there all gangsters doing stuff there not supposed to anyway. They know the risks of being a career criminal and being snitched on or snitching is a part of that risk. Really its his own fault for trusting his kid who he had already caught stealing from him and was using drugs. Also jr decided to rat whilst in prison and his dad seemed ok with him at the time considering the fact that he was discussing past murders with him it seems they got along just fine despite the drugs and everything.

That was the ultimate betrayal! I'm not condoning it at all! However, Italian fathers are in many ways co- dependent on thier sons. Whether its the trust, pressure whatever! I'm sure plenty of us here wonder why parents up with the BS from thier kids like they do! That Calabrese seemed like a real mutt, however I couldn't imagine the pain he went thru listening to his son testifying against him!

Re: Frank Calabrese Sr dead - 01/03/13 11:51 PM

Reading the book right now. His dad seemed insane and always tried to control him. Even though he did that I'm surprised he could do that to his own Dad.

LOL. We all enjoy reading about the mob but goodness... the guy killed 15 people.

Google "Kurt Calabrese interview."

He talks about how he lived in terror of his POS father.

He's lucky his kids didn't kill him.

Well in the beginning they chose to work for him. Once you make a promise to someone, you keep it. You don't run away and ask the feds to help you out of that life once you get scared.

Re: Frank Calabrese Sr dead - 01/04/13 05:25 PM

I thought he forced his kids into it....
Posted By: Wilson

Re: Frank Calabrese Sr dead - 01/04/13 05:56 PM

Nope he didn't.

Frank Jr. started out working for Nick Calabrese who was Frank's brother. Reason? His father never wanted his own son to do the same things he did. Then when Frank Jr. got deeply involved in the family he turns on his dad. WTF is that?
Posted By: jonnynonos

Re: Frank Calabrese Sr dead - 01/04/13 05:59 PM

It's been a while since I read the book but I definitely don't remember it happening like that. He brought Jr. into the life, if I remember correctly, when he was just a teenager. According to Kurt he did not have much of a choice, if any.

Keep in mind that at the trial he called from the bench to Kurt to testify that he was a good dad and Kurt's response was to get up and walk out of the courtroom.

Jon DiFronzo called Mike Mags' dad "stupid" for brining him in. IMO mobsters who brings their kids in tend to be the worst of the kind.

didnt frank calabrese have another family and kids as well. perhaps he thought i can let these kids be criminals because ive got the other ones i can raise properly. Its kind of like domink montiglio in a way with his uncle nino. He let his nephew become a gangster but not his own kids even though he raised dominik from an early. Also it comes down to having people around you can trust and will follow blindly because of that trust and its easier to keep them in their place especially for a patriarch like calabrese.

Re: Frank Calabrese Sr dead - 01/04/13 09:32 PM

I actually don't know what happened with that. He definitely get divorced and remarried, and he apparently has two kids who were kept entirely out of the media throughout the trial who had NOTHING to do with organized crime. But whether they were from the first wife or the second, I'm not sure.

FCS seems just like an all around pyschotic, self-obsessed individual. I have posted this countless times but during the trial Judge Zagel went out of his way to say something redeeming about all of the mobsters, including Lombardo and Marcello, and of course Nick C, but equally went out of his way to refer to FCS as a "toxic creature" with no redeeming qualities.

It's a matter of opinion but everything I've read supports that view.

Re: Frank Calabrese Sr dead - 01/04/13 10:00 PM

Are they going to throw Frank a funeral? I have looked online and usually a wake is held within a few days of a persons death. I haven't read anything about that in any obituary. Most mobsters have funerals right?

This is a perfect example of a man who was a mobster because he earned money for the Chicago outfit and was willing to do the dirty work. Seems to me that no one cared about him as a person. From what I See they basically used him. Thats it.

Re: Frank Calabrese Sr dead - 01/04/13 10:39 PM

From what I've heard it will be super private and not publicized.

Not sure what it's like these days but the Catholic church used to refuse to bury the gangsters... although most of them ultimately did wind up in a couple of Catholic cemeteries in the western suburbs, so who knows.

That seems like a fair assessment of Sr.'s career. Guess it makes sense considering his boss was Angelo La Pietra, who was probably the most feared mobster since Giancana.

I remember being shocked at how little Nick Calabrese was getting paid. Not sure what his lifetime "take" was, but I remember Marcello was giving him $4K a month in hopes he would keep quiet in prison--which he did for a while.

$40K a year for knocking down 15-plus guys.

The prosecuters during Secrets always maintained that if Sr. would have shared the wealth with Nick even a LITTLE more he would have never flipped.

But he felt so taken advantage of that he ultimately sunk all of 'em.

Re: Frank Calabrese Sr dead - 01/05/13 04:22 PM

Wilson,

What you're failing to consider is that very often these guys create their own rats by mistreating their subordinates and refusing to share the wealth. Now I don't follow modern day Chicago all that closely. I'd rather make quality posts about areas that I'm familiar with (namely New York, New Jersey and South Florida). But this guy Calabrese certainly seems to fit the bill.

Guys like Gambino, Costello and Accardo knew that you had to let the troops eat. And that, while you commanded respect, you never abused your own people. Calabrese abused his own kids. He couldn't scrape a pimple off Tony Accardo's ass.

As far as wiseguys who push their kids into the life: I always bring up Craig Depalma. There ought to be a special section of hell reserved for Greg for what he did to that kid.

It's also worth noting that more often than not, the Genovese guys tend to push their kids away from the life (or at least away from being made). For the smarter guys, the American mob is a single generation means to an end. The end being the education and future of their children.

Re: Frank Calabrese Sr dead - 01/13/13 07:21 AM

I was just watching the Bio "Family Secrets" Episode on Demand. I've noticed this before when they show at 0:36 minutes the audio/video footage of the Frank Sr and Jr talking... the Black couple in front of them appear to not be speaking at all or at least the black guy. The black guy also a grin on his face, arms crossed, and by his body language appears as he knows that the room is bugged...I know I sound like some conspiracy theorist,I'm thinking the guy is maybe an agent or I don't know the laws in federal prison but a court wouldn't tell an inmate that the room was bugged ..I mean when making a phone call or sending a letter they tell you that the call is being recorded or the mail may be read but that scene is just weird assuming their agents
