Rick Ross Cancels Tour Dates Over Reported Gang Threats – How Common Is This?
By Emily Zemler • 1 hour ago Breaking News

Rick Ross canceled the remaining dates of his current Maybach Music Tour, including stops in New York and Nashville. The rapper’s rep cited the reason as an “apparent lack of organization and communication on the part of the tour promoter.” However; there are reports of gang threats in some locations. Ross initially only canceled two performances in North Carolina, where rumors that the shows were canceled due to threats from the Gangster Disciples street gang quickly arose. But is this why Ross canned the rest of his tour? And how common is it that a musician would cancel dates tour over gang threats?
.
The Gangster Disciples beef with Ross apparently stems from his 2010 single “B.M.F. (Blowin’ Money Fast),” in which he raps, “I think I’m Big Meech … Larry Hoover.” Hoover is the founder of that gang and is currently imprisoned. SPIN also reports that adding to the issue is Ross’ recent mixtape The Black Bar Mitzvah, which features the Jewish Star of David – a symbol that the Gangster Disciples were already using as their emblem. But the issue is far more complicated than just this, as it seems many gangs have posted videos on YouTube threatening Ross. It’s unclear whether this is exactly why the tour has been called off, but we’d guess that there’s a direct correlation.
.
Ross tweeted of the initial shows, which were also meant to include Wale and Meek Mill, “North Carolina I wuz so excited to perform tomorro wit #MMG. Promoters cancelled show but I’ll be Back ASAP.” Some media reports attest that it’s possible that the gang pressured the concert promoter into canceling rather than the other way around. In a YouTube video the Gangster Disciples say they want money from Ross, noting, “We pressing up on you, the whole Maybach. Everybody on your label is in trouble… Whatever city, whatever state… we letting your promoters know. If you wanna book Rick Ross, you need to talk to us, G… We ain’t going to release this pressure off you until you release this check… Maybach, Meek Mill, everybody, G. Nothing personal, but tell your boss man he got to get that check ’cause y’all in trouble.” If he doesn’t cut them a check, well, then he’s banned from Illinois, Colorado, Alabama, Florida, Tennessee, Georgia and North Carolina.
.
While there have been instances where a rapper’s connection to a gang gets them banned, it doesn’t usually seem to be from a gang itself. Last year The Game was stopped from going into Canada to perform a show because of an alleged affiliation with the Bloods, but that was instituted by the Canadian government, who held the rapper at the border. Waka Flocka Flame, who claimed earlier this year that he was banned from the state of Virginia due to his supposed gang affiliation, has also been prevented by performing in Canada.
.
What’s Ross’s next move? The rapper told Allhiphop.com, “I want to apologize to all of my fans who I missed performing for due to the cancellations and want to let them know that I will get back to their cities. I enjoyed my experience with my little bros Wale and Meek Mill and I’m ready to get back in the studio to make good music.” We’ll see if Ross addresses any of this in that new music.

Re: rapper cancels tour after death/extortion threats - 12/10/12 08:56 PM

His fraudulent image can only take him so far. He may be mainstream popular, but being a former CO talking like a kingpin amongst kingpins will get you in trouble at some point. Taking someone's name like no one would notice? Someone was bound to try to extort him for one reason or another. Rick Ross is nothing but a marketing campaign for the Prison Industrial Complex. GDs are too fragmented, but this dumb ass probably put them to one goal, that guy paying his fee. Street copyright infringement?

Rick Ross used to be a prison guard. BMF however made about $400 million selling coke. Big Meech and his brother were huge with the Mexican cartel and by drug dealers across the USA.

Re: rapper cancels tour after death/extortion threats - 12/10/12 09:40 PM

He needs to throw some money around quickly and get those tour dates back up, the longer he leaves it the worse its gonna be for his career. taking an actual drug kingpins name who isn't even dead or in jail anymore was stupid anyway.

I think that bmf killed p diddys former bodyguard in atlanta too.

From what the 'gangland' documentary stated, P. Diddy bodyguard started the confrontation and whined up dead. Smh. GDs & Rock Ross situation is Ross own fault of course. Smh again.

Ross is actually a very talented rapper (compared to what else is coming out these days) but you jus cant be a former CO and then claim your this big drug kingpin and name yourself Rick Ross and not expect to get alot of shit for it.

Rappers today could not be more pussy, talking of the mainstream one's, look at Lil Wayne, Wiz Khlifia etc, wearing skinny jeans and pretending to be tough.
Obviously I couldn't relate to what their talking about but I respected rappers like The Game, Easy E etc who actually had been involved in gang activity etc not just lying about it.
Haha just recently that rapper Tyga got found out lying he was from the hood, when he was actually from the valley, not Compton.

i found this story which goes into the shooting and p diddy link.

The mysterious relationship of the Flenory's and Sean "P Diddy" Combs, is like a 21st Century spin on the Sinatra Mafioso story that has been the subject of many articles and gossip influenced street lore.

But the trial actually brought things to light, considering that two of the remaining 39 defendants who were being prosecuted as being members of the Black Mafia Family Syndicate happen to be close associates of P Diddy himself.

Darryl "Poppa" Taylor according to federal investigators is the first cousin of P. Diddy and according to his own testimony was introduced to the Terry Flenory via P. Diddy's head of security Paul Buford, who was on trial himself as Taylor's co-defendant and remains a fugitive as of this writing. http://www.amw.com/fugitives/case.cfm?id=59767

This scenario was a long series of mysterious publicized encounters with BMF members, dating back to June 2003 when the Sean "P Diddy" Combs first welcomed Big Meech Flenory and his brother Terry's entry into the entertainment industry in Atlanta with a lavish birthday bash at Justins Restaurant in Atlanta.

Still nothing suspicious was thought of the encounters until a few months later a shooting in the Buckhead area of Atlanta at a nightclub left 2 men dead, with one suspect having a strange relationship with the victim.

Anthony "Wolf" Jones was murdered in the parking lot of the Chaos Nightclub on Nov. 11th 2003 following a dispute within the club that had erupted into plain view in front of hundreds of witnesses in the parking lot, following a subsequent chase by authorities, two suspects were held in custody, Demetrius "Big Meech" Flenory and Ameen "Baby Bull" Hight, both of whom had withstood injuries connected to the shooting.

As with most shootings amongst African Americans, a cloud of "silence" prevented further investigation into the dispute, with nothing other than a weak motive that the shooting was based a dispute over a woman.

Needless to say without co-operation from any of the witnesses and two dead corpses, Big Meech and Baby Bull were freed on bond, pending house arrest.

News, however, spread quick throughout the streets of urban America, that a "BIG BAD WOLF" had been murdered in ATL; for those familiar with theentertainment industry particularly the field of bodyguard and security work, Wolf was an infamous figure.

Wolf Jones, had figured prominently in the entertainment world, rising to stature as P. Diddy's head of security following the arrest by federal authorities of Walter "King Tut" Johnson; who was nabbed as a person of interest to agents on October 24, 1996 investigating the recent death of Tupac Shakur in September of that same year.

It was clearly obvious that fed investigators were desperately trying to search any lead, because King Tut had already escaped prosecution in his involvement in the shooting assault of Tupac in the 1994 quad studio session involving P Diddy and Biggie.

Wolf like King Tut had a dubious criminal past, but was able to refine himself as a mediator and problem resolver due to his employer Sean Combs numerous beefs and rivals.

Atlanta ironically would be the place that Wolf Jones would make his mark as a valuable enforcer for Sean Combs. It was on 1995 at a birthday fete for music mogul Jermaine Dupri, that words would be exchanged between Anthony "Wolf" Jones and an individual named Jake Robles a MOB PIRU blood gang member and close confident and bodyguard of Suge Knight.

The dispute according to Village Voice writer Peter Noel was best described as a war of words based on a contingent of crips from the west coast who ran alongside Suge Knight and his blood counterpart Jake Robles as part of the Death Row conclave who were questioning Wolf's loyalty to a "buster like Puff Daddy", who allegedly was growing weary of having to defend Puff from disputes that Puff would never have to deal with himself...according to one anonymous source:

"Puffy ain't always the best when it comes to paying," the impresario says. "A lot of the times it's his people, trying to play games, but whenever there was a discrepancy, all I had to do was step to Wolf and he'd take care of it. He'd make sure that problem was taken care of."

Wolf being the tactful thinker that he was, decided the best way to resolve the conflict of words which was bound to get heated was to exit the birthday bash, which seemed to temporarily calm things when the Death Row heads were escorted out by security only to bump heads again later on/

But the role of "taking care of Puffy" was finally beginning to show cracks following the conclusion of the infamous "Shyne Barrow/Puff Daddy" club shooting trial when Jones was named as a codefendane along with Shyne and P Diddy in this highly publicized case...Anthony Jones was forced into a role he wasn't use to the media spotlight, while the Jake Robles affair faded into obscurity based on lack of cooperation of witnesses and the police lack of effort.

The Shyne Barrow trial was a circus, and put Jones in the compromising role once again as Diddy's "fall guy" throughout the trial. Jones had to retain his own legal counsel, he was successfully portrayed by his attorney as the "guy trying to defuse" the tension between the P diddy's crew and the victims.

Following his acquittal of gun possession charges and attempted murder, Wolf used this opportunity to seek an "escape" from his compromising role under P Diddy.

While continuing to work for Sean Combs as a security personnel for him in Atlanta specifically at Justins, Combs second restaurant facility, Wolf was according to family members making a name for himself as a budding entrepreneur in the field of personal security.

Around 2000, in an effort to become more mobile in cities such as Miami, Atlanta and Los Angeles, Combs strengthened ties with an old friend a Gangsta Disciple affiliated cocaine enterpriser with nationwide crip ties named Big Meech out of Southwest Detroit...

Who along with his brother Terry were quite mobile themselves, having franchised their cocaine operation from it's local base to outposts as far as Los Angeles and New York.

Combs affiliation with the Black Mafia first came to notice, as Sean John was making it's presence known in the New York fashion circle in 1998, when VANITY FAIR magazine published an article questioning the financing of BAD BOY and pointing to it's source as being a cadre of "real bad boys" named the BLACK MAFIA.

But this did nothing to stop or discourage Diddy as the mantra he coined he states "we won't stop" was quickly becoming a reality.

Meech became a major player in Diddy's unstoppable quest to become a well enforced demagogue in the entertainment world and it's safe to say that Meech's monetary strength, as well as access to a plethora of gun toting goons across the states, made him a valuable resource to P. Diddy.

Soon Wolf was finding himself less of use to his employer P. Diddy who according to sources was growing distrustful of Wolf's loyalty and fearful that Wolf might get to talking about Diddy's street activities which he enabled him avoid persecution for so long.

It was in 2003 at the same birthday bash that Diddy hosted for Big Meech, that later on in the evening Wolf would find himself demoted from his position as Security head for Bad Boy entertainment and replaced by Paul Buford a close friend of the Flenory's and a high ranking member within the BMF click.

I have to admit, sometimes when I listen to the old hip hop, a tear rolls down my cheek the moment Lil Wayne's face flashes through my mind. What happened to hip hop in less than 20 years deeply saddens me.

The last of the mohicans was Ol'Dirty Bastard. He was a real MC,famous world wide and the same time a real gangster.Half of his life he spent in jail and he had two golden records.Im mentioning Dirty cuz he had the skills and the bad blood at the same time...a rare phenomenon.Yall know RZA from the Wu-Tang right?Dirty's cousin?RZA got his first turntables as a present from Dirty. There was this dude and he owned money to D.So one day D paid a visit to this dudes home and took his turntables and gave it to RZA.So thats the first "brick" of the Wu building.Right now its all hollywood...former cops rappin about drugs and hoes...i mean...WHAT IS THE WORLD COMING TO?!?!!?Eazy E was the first gangster rapper role model, other ppl were makin his music, lyrics and everythin. But at least Eazy was a real street thug. cool

Thats true. The point is not just to be a gangster, but an artist too. They used to make albums every 2 or 3 years...todays "rappers" make one album and 10 mixtapes for one week!?!...and yes they are gangsters but not artists.Thats the problem with todays music...its just producers and record companies, the "main stars" are just modified puppets. Its hard to defend todays rap,so when ppl start sayin somethin like "rap music sux"i keep my mouth shut shhh

"i said a hip hop
the hippie the hippie
to the hip hip hop, a you dont stop the rock it
to the bang bang boogie, say up jumped the boogie
to the rhythm of the boogie, the beat" tongue lol

BIG was the realest there ever was he stood for old skool hip hop, His lyrics are uncomparable to anyone coming out in the past 10 years and he was real, te difference between the old generation of hip hop is allot like the difference between Lucky Luciano and today's LCN there trying to make a living of a legacy of something created by original gangsters with a artistic side but minus te gangster and artist part. Wu Tang, Eazy, Tupac, BIG, even Eminem, they were just on a higher level and no one will live up to then in te foreseeable future ESPECIALLY Rick Ross guys a nobody and his music is honestly horrible I hate his grunting. Last of the old school left are Game,Snoop,Dre, and the Clan are the last of the Mohicans and there glory days are past them as well 😓

Wu Tang, Snoop and Eazy really were involved in crime. Dr Dre is a good rapper but he isn't the 'real G' he claims to be, neither is Ice Cube nor is Eminem ( but Eminem seldomly raps about being a criminal mastermind ). Tupac was involved in some shootings.

Suge Knight was also pretty crazy

I used handle security across the street from Justin's in ATL at the MEZZO condo high rise ( where Jazzy Fay Lives). Justins had parties that were out of control back then. I was at the MEZZO the night the Wolf shooting went down. It happened a little further north on Peachtree. The cops were everywhere! Anyway, here is a link to the Flenory brothers outfit BMF. Their crew had the bad daddy fish scale. It was everyhwere in the ATL back then. Still is......so I hear. shhh

if you enjoy this kindof music,im sorry, but it disgusts me. i have two sons that both listen to this shit.i get it,its part of there generation.my parents never liked my music but the beatles didnt sing about 'slinging dope' and 'shootin niggas'. which is all i ever fucking hear. when i grew up,money and women, that kind of thing-were glamorized yeah, but it wasnt in the mass media. the stones didnt make any songs about how fucking tough they are.and even without that kindof thinking jammed into our brains,we still raised hell all over the place. now,the media encourages 'hustling', and fucking as many 'hoes' as you can, and selling 'bricks'.look,i seen enough violence in my younger days without it being encouraged by main stream radio.i listen to all these rappers talking about how there 'unstoppable' or 'untouchable' and they will go to 'war' or all the 'niggas they capped'. bullshit.if youve even been close to that kind of thing your songs would sound like rodney king. 'why cant we get along'?when some one you know dies for nothing, for bullshit, for an ill-concieved sense of 'honor',you ask your self 'why'. 'why did he deserve to die'? and for what?respect? so they wouldnt look like a punk? because they were friends with the wrong guy.

thats what i dispise about those 'rappers'.if they were around half the shit they claim to be,they would be rapping about how being a father is more important than being a 'real nigga'. sorry for the rant guys.

I understand the sentiment and I dislike what the "mainstream" rap is outlandish, materialistic, and shallow as it can be now. But if I may insist, look up the rapper Lupe Fiasco. His lyricism, wordplay , and metaphors are impressive and makes you wonder why aren't there more ARTIST like him around.

Rick Ross had some shots fired at his car in florida.

Rick Ross Is Unhurt After Drive-By Shooting in Florida

Several Florida news outlets are reporting that rapper Rick Ross crashed his Rolls Royce early Monday morning after an unidentified assailant fired shots at him from an unknown vehicle.

According to Local10.com, this is Ross' Rolls Royce being towed away from the scene of the accident.
Ross, who last year shrugged off death threats from the Chicago-based street gang Gangster Disciples, reportedly crashed his luxury car into a Fort Lauderdale building while attempting to escape the gunfire. Neither he nor his female passenger were injured, and the car was not hit by any bullets, according to initial reports.

Ross, a former corrections officer, became a target of the Gangster Disciples after he mentioned the gang's founder Larry Hoover in his 2010 single "B.M.F. (Blowin' Money Fast)." Though it was initially reported that Ross cancelled several tour dates last December because of the threats against his life, he later clarified that he backed out of the concerts over issues with the promoter.

Today is Ross' 37th birthday.

New York City police are giving rapper Rick Ross around-the-clock protection in wake of recent threats against the Miami MC’s life. TMZ is reporting that NYPD officers have been guarding the London Hotel this week, where Ross is believed to be staying a month after being shot at in his home state of Florida.

Ross’ Rolls Royce was shot up as the Maybach Music Group boss left his own birthday celebration in Ft. Lauderdale on January 28. Ross reportedly hired 24-hour armed security after the shooting caused him to crash his car into a restaurant. He and his passenger weren’t injured in the incident.

Threats against the rapper have been a major cause of concern since gang threats caused Ross to cancel his Maybach Music Group tour last December. Promoters in North Carolina were the first to pull the plug on two scheduled performances by Ross and label mates Meek Mill and Wale last December fearing an altercation with the Gangster Disciples.

The infamous Chicago-based gang took issue with Ross’ 2010 hit "B.M.F. (Blowin’ Money Fast,)" which invokes their leader, Larry Hoover, on the hook. Ross stoked the flames with the release of his 2012 mixtape Black Bar Mitzvah, which features the six-point star of David on the cover. The symbol is both an emblem of the Jewish faith and the official logo of the Gangster Disciples.

Ross’ sixth album, Mastermind, is expected to drop in 2013. The single "Box Chevy" was released February 15.
