Gino Marconi question - 05/30/12 10:22 PM

Hello everybody,
Just found this site and it's great and been spending time looking at all the old posts. I have a question. It seems like there are a few Gino Marconi's. I went to high school (Furness High) with a Gino Marconi in the mid 90's and I was wondering if it's the same Gino who was arrested in 1999. He was a cool dude so I hope it was not him. Have not seen him since high school. I know he was a short dude like around 5 foot 4. Is this the same guy? He would be somewhere between 33 and 35 today
Thanks

Nah Philly Steve I'm pretty sure the guy your reading about is not the one you know. The one you see on here I think was an associate of Joey Merlino and was maybe a small-time drug dealer who was killed I believe in either the mid or late nineties.Welcome to the site.

The guy who was killed in the mid 90's was Gino Marconi Sr. The guy in question I was asking about was his son Gino Marconi Jr. who went to jail in 1999 for a revenge attempted murder for trying to kill the guy who killed his father. Gino Marconi Jr was about 20 in 1999. The guy I went to high school with the same name would of been about that exact same age in 1999

Alleged Mobster's Son Loses Bail Bid Guerino Marconi Was Slain Saturday. His Son, Jailed For Assault, Sought To Attend The Funeral.

April 16, 1999|By Linda Loyd, INQUIRER STAFF WRITER

Gino Marconi Jr. will not be getting out of jail to attend his father's funeral today.

Instead, a judge ruled the imprisoned son of a murdered mob associate, Guerino ``Gino'' Marconi, could attend a private viewing last night for his father, escorted by Philadelphia sheriff's deputies.

The ruling was a victory for prosecutors, who strongly opposed bail, arguing there was ``overwhelming evidence'' the younger Marconi, 20, posed a danger to the young man he stabbed last April, was a risk to flee, and might seek retribution against his father's killer.

Marconi Jr., who has been in prison since he was convicted Feb. 8 of stabbing a South Philadelphia man eight times, asked Common Pleas Court Judge D. Webster Keogh to free him on bail until his sentencing later this month. His attorney, Michael Wallace, made the bail request Wednesday to get the son to his father's Funeral Mass.

``We worked out an arrangement,'' Wallace said yesterday. ``I think the Marconi family is satisfied. They have some of the same concerns the D.A.'s office has, and I have, [for Marconi's safety].''

Gino Marconi, 42, was shot in the head last Saturday night in South Philadelphia in what investigators said was an organized-crime-style hit.

His companion, Patricia Miley, 31, was shot three times in the chest and was discharged yesterday from Jefferson University Hospital. The two were gunned down by a man who confronted them outside Marconi's home in the 2400 block of South 20th Street and opened fire with a .22-caliber rifle. The gunman then torched a van parked in front of the home, setting several other cars on fire.

Marconi has been identified as a low-level player in the Philadelphia mob and an associate of Joseph ``Skinny Joey'' Merlino, reputed area mob kingpin.

Yesterday, Deputy District Attorney Charles F. Gallagher 3d met privately with Judge Keogh and attorney Wallace to present confidential information about the murder investigation. Prosecutors said the younger Marconi could be in danger of being killed himself if released, or he might try to seek revenge against the person he believes killed his father. Police said the investigation is continuing. No suspects have been named.

``He might take the law into his own hands if he's given bail,'' Assistant District Attorney Jerry Teresinski told the judge

Actually Gino Marconi jr was incarcerated at the time of his fathers murder for stabbing someone who was beating him in a fist fight. He was escorted to a private viewing when Marconi sr. died in 1999 by the Phila. sheriffs department, due to his victims safety and for fear of retaliation against his fathers murderer!

Re: Gino Marconi question - 06/13/12 08:07 PM

the brothers im thinking of wanted to kill chucky merlino in the 60tys because he was fooling around with there niece, and scarfo came to his rescue. one of the brothers may have been this guys grandfather. scarfo saved merlino's life a few times but scarfo also treated him bad when he got the thrown. i wonder how jr. is dealing with the philly guys in the pen but the philly guys even with the gambinos dont want to go to war with the luchese jersey crew there probaly as big as the philly family its self. or maybe they cracked him in the head with a lock in the sock. or maybe there playing whist or rummy for acouple ramen soups and slim jims.

Re: Gino Marconi question - 06/14/12 07:35 PM

yea that's the guy I was asking about. I knew a Gino Marconi who would of been in his early 20's in 1999. I'm betting this is the same guy I knew. Does anybody know his hight? The Gino I was buddies with was a short dude about like 5 foot 3 or 5 foot 4 at the most and he was skinny. Is he out of jail by now?

I think I know who he is now that you said his height. He dated this chick Christine I knew when he first got out. If thinkin of same person, hes been out of jail for at least 7 or 8 years. He hung with some Irish dude (forget his name) as well when he was with her.
