What happens when a made guy cant earn anymore - 01/23/12 12:01 AM

Say a made guy use to be a good earner in the 80s and 90s but in the last few years his buisnesses on the street has dried up (just like greg delpalma but gdp was a captin)What happens to him if he is only making like 300 a week it will be hard for him to kick up because he would need that to live off.Would he then have to go get a real job or would he just be shelved.Because an associate who cant earn anymore would just be told to piss off but a made guy is in lcn for life so what would happen

Tommy Gambino's in that boat IIRC, and he's retired.

As I understand it, a guy gets "put on the shelf" so he can't be involved in mob business anymore. He's forced to be inactive. There's a distinction compared to a guy who may not be earning that much anymore.

I would think Tommy Gambino is very well off.

Tommy and Joe Gambino have a legitimate net worth that would make a Corporate CEO envious. They've been out of the game for quite some time, and even when they were in it, it was all about trucking and the garment industry for them.

Tommy raised his kids in an Upper East Side townhouse worthy of the Vanderbilts or the Astors. He was educated in private schools. He's hardly your typical Goombah. He's living in California now, where I have to believe that he's enjoying his money whistle.

That case that Tommy gambino got caught about the trucking industry back in the 90s he had to pay a fine of like $12-15 million and he paid it all no problem!

Well, Tommy was the first on-the-shelf guy I could think of.

What about Ruggierro? Is there anything we know besides Gotti wouldn't come to see him while he was dying? Did they pay the bills?

And he probably didn't have any problems with that at all.

Tommy Gambino made a fortune without getting his hands dirty (be expected to commit murders)

I would mind being a couple of cents behind him!

One of the "strangest" (but true) stories I heard was that Tommy Gambino was indicted in the same 1990 case as John Gotti and Sammy Gravano. He was charged with loan sharking and started serving his sentence in 1996. While he was in prison it was alleged that his stockbroker stole $2 million from him. Gambino sued to get the money back. eek

What was that commercial? This is not your father's Oldsmobile?

Well, this is not your father's Mafia lol.

A few years ago, Tommy Milo and Angelo Ponte (both top private sanitation guys closely associated with the Genovese family), sued everyone in sight. I'm sure there are other examples, but they jumped right into my mind when I read your post.

The point is, things have sure changed since Carlo's day.

It wasn't just any wiseguy. It was Carlo Gambino's son.

"Goodfellas don't sue goodfellas, Goodfellas kill goodfellas."

That was Salvatore Profaci caught on a bug in John Stanfa's lawyers office during the Stanfa-Merlino war. Is Profaci Joe Profaci's son?

The small contingent of Colombo members in New Jersey has also felt the impact of law enforcement. Caporegime Salvatore Profaci, a resident of Holmdel, was convicted of mail fraud in December of 1985 and sentenced to four years in federal prison. Profaci has had extensive involvement in the food industry in New Jersey. Since his release from prison in 1988, he is again employed in that industry in Edison.

this is the only info i can find on him. joe parfaci's brother was named salvatore and was the consig....but the time frame wouldn't line up correctly for that to be the same guyy.

It´s complicated...
There were 3 (!) Salvatore Profacis listed by FBI as members of the Colombo Family. They were all named after Salvatore Profaci, the father of Joseph Profaci (the boss) and his three brothers Emanuele, Salvatore and Frank.
Salvatore Profaci Jr (son of Salvatore Profaci Sr, brother of Joseph) was born in 1935 but died in 1978.
The other two Salvatore Profacis was Salvatore "Sam" (born in 1934) and son of Frank Profaci (I believe), and Salvatore Joseph (born in 1936) son of Joseph Profaci (the boss).
"Our" Salvatore Profaci (who was the capo of the Colombos in the 1980s and 1990s) seems to be the son of late Joseph Profaci (the boss). If Phats source is correct (I assume that it is) the info matches the FBI´s listing address of Salvatore Joseph which is 6 Galewood Drive, Holmdel, NJ.
