Mob Talk - 10/02/11 11:49 PM

Fox Philly 29 mob talk segment has been cancelled by the new boss at the station.

Re: Mob Talk - 10/03/11 01:11 AM

There was some discussion on this on Real Deal. Sucks right? Apparently some new producer or something getting rid of all the things his predecessor had started, since they apparently didn't get along. He still has the video's at his (Anastasia's) official site at least. Hopefully the FOX29 video's will be archived.

Maybe also a sign of the dwindling fortunes of the Philly mob.

Maybe its a good thing. I mean FOX 29 Investigative Reports are just out of hand lately. Following around stupid city workers for a year, who use a city vehicle.

The media "Jeff Cole" especially make it seem like such a big deal, like this stuff hasn't been going on for years from the bottom to the top.

Re: Mob Talk - 10/03/11 05:58 AM

I lost interest in alot of the Phila Mob Stuff. Now with football season in full swing, everyone and there mother has a book or a pool.

This is me paraphrasing something a friend said.
" I remember as a little kid, and a plain cloths police officer for my township would come into my house, in full uniform most likely to pay his debts, or collect his winnings. It's funny how much of an asshole that cop was growing up towards my generation and to just find that out in the past year cracked me up

This is such bs.. i bet you this segment was one of the most popular on the site.. They did a great job together.. The mob talks are so much better than the mob scene w GA alone.. Dave is great and really gets into it.. These videos are like 7 min long compared to the 3 min ones George does alone.. Im pissed off bc i loved the MOB talk.. NY should have something like this.. This is why the Philly Mob is so popular

^This^

Imagine if NYC really does something like Philly.
That be great and you know that, every week for the next decades, you'll always have something to discuss.

Let's face it. Anastasia and Dave managed to come up with new vids every 10 days of so...in Philly...on a crime family that has not more than 150 active members + associates in total.

Doing that in NYC, with 5 active families and thousands of members + associates.

Whomever does it will never be unemployed. And NYers love mob stuff.

Yeah it was successful and informative too. The consensus on here from most guys though is there basically just a crew, far removed from the 70s and 80s when they had real power, who knows if they will still be around in 20 or 30 years.

To small to have 5 capos. I dont think they go by who is capo or underboss. Its the boss and whoever he is close with, and the rest are soldiers.

Re: Mob Talk - 10/05/11 02:11 AM

Thanks Dap.

Ivyleague made a good point on another forum, that with only a couple of handfuls of guys on the street, compared with the number of imprisoned members, there's more left to Philly then a number of other families with only a couple handfuls of guys all up imprisoned or not.

See I dont know. The "Mobscene" video's by George echo much of the stuff they talk about on "Mob Talk", but he has some other video's that are pretty good unto themselves. There's a great video he did on Billy D'Elia. In any case, its better then nothing.

For the record, I totalluy agree that "NY should have something like this". Considering what George pulls off with what he has to work with, Capeci could be doing the same sorta thing no problem. Id actually consider paying for membership if he had video's as well.

In recent years it doesn't seem there's been more than 4 captains/crews in Philadelphia.

But more and more, it's becoming less and less the clear-cut, traditional framework. In the last year or two, Ligambi was obviously the boss. And it came out in the indictment that Massimino was the underboss.

But it was telling in the indictment how Borgesi (if I remember right), Staino and Angelina were simply labeled "high ranking" members. Some reports had Lucibello higher up but he was labeled as a soldier or member in the indictment. Some reports have listed Lancelotti and Staino as captains.

I think as time goes by, the numbers shrink, and there's less to oversee, there's less of a need for a more hierarchical structure. So, like you said, it sort of becomes a situation of the boss, a few top guys underneath him, and then everyone else.

So, what, half that today?

When the feds took down Scarfo and his crew, they destroyed the Philly Mob. Uncle Joe had a nice run, but it has and will never been the same.

Never stated that Philly is the new Genovese.
But, compared to the hellish days in the '90s and early '00s, Uncle Joe did manage to bring some order (and cash) back.
He also made quite a few guys. Ivy listed them somewhere in the forum. 20 or so active made guys is pretty good for today's Brunos.

Ligambi's way of doing business (the low-key, quite style) did make an impact on many.

And no. It's a family. Small indeed, but a family.

If the Philly Mob is still a small but powerful family , why is Lou Monacello living out in the open at Jersey Shore.

Yeah and the stuff its doing, poker machines and a bit of loan sharking its low level stuff.

Re: Mob Talk - 10/14/11 06:49 AM

Well gambling and loansharking is the most consistent source of income for every family, big or small.
Posted By: LuanKuci

Re: Mob Talk - 10/14/11 07:00 AM

I'm quite surprised at your responds guys. Many threads have covered both issues:

1. There are hundreads of known rats that are living out quitely, even those who were members of more powerful, wealthier and larger families.
It's not a priority. There is money to be made and "things" to be re-organized after the indictments.
And he's gotta be watched 24/7.

2. If the indictment covers just those two things it doesn't mean that the whole organization is involved just in that.
AND since when gambling\shylocking is low level? Just because it doesn't sound as fancy as "labor racketeering" it doesn't mean that you can't make tons of money.

Loan sharking and gambling have been the backbone of the LCN all these years. They know that it's a secure income...there's always going to be. So they can invest that money in other stuff
and God forbid some actions get stopped, you now that you can rely on that money monthly.

Re: Mob Talk - 10/14/11 12:43 PM

Whats the line on RD? "Philly is a glorified crew of bookmakers". lol

FWIW, the FBI call it "viable". As low-end as they may be these days (without any "no-shows" or union hooks to speak of, it all seems to be the books, the sharking, the joker poker and a little drug related stuff here and there); there's more Philly guys in jail then some places have active guys. Whether all those guys get back into things when they get out is anyone's guess, but there's still enough guys to keep things going for a while yet.

Re: Mob Talk - 11/04/11 07:12 PM

Loan sharking is a million dollar industry. They aren't going to let it die because someone got busted. There's usually someone in his place before sun up. I miss the days when you could just walk into a bar and ask for money when you were in a tight spot. Now it's even harder to go to a loan shark.
