nicky scrafo felt that he was getting too powerful and would be able to over throw him. they were running articles calling him the mob prince in magazines. thats the real reason because of scarfos paranoia and blood thirst and the maria merlino deal as well. i remember seeing pics of maria on mobtalk w/geroge and she didnt look bad. she musta been a real punnani

From a mafia perspective I think it's a real shame this guy was killed. He could have been 10 times better than Scarfo ever was.

This was one hit that really bothered people. I mean the man ran Scarfo's mob for him when he was locked up and ran the whole Ricobenne war. He was a millionairre at a young age and then Scarfo has him wacked basically because he was jealous. And has his best friend do it. Scarfo was smart in that way I guess. Testa use to be real careful so he knew he had to use Pungitore plus Testa probably started to get nervous because he did know people were upset about the marriage thing but I really dont think the engagement thing really mattered to Scarfo. Merlinos were mad, and he was the underboss at the time, but remember Scarfo was eventually on the outs with Merlino to. it was just another excuse to add to the list for Scarfo. When they ran that Wall street journal artical naming him the Prince of South philly was right around the time the Riccobene wars were coming to an end so Scarfo didn't need him anymore. If you ever hear an interview with Nicholas the Crow or any of those guys who flipped that were involved in the hit, they all say he was the true gangster and that this was one hit that none of them really agreed with. This is when Scafo started to really lose the trust of the family. theres another thread on here talking about smart gangsters...Salvie could have been on there if he was around longer. He was a good business man. Him and his father had a lot of busineses...legit and not.
