German, Swede arrested in Thailand for extradition

BANGKOK: -- One German and one Swedish man have been arrested in Thailand for extradition to their home countries, where they are wanted in separate cases, the Thai immigration chief said Tuesday.

Becker Hans Dieter was arrested Monday in a beach resort area outside Hua Hin in the Gulf of Thailand, after a court in Munich issued a warrant for his arrest on charges of bribery and tax evasion, the head of the Immigration Bureau said.

Bo Peter Soderback from Sweden was arrested Tuesday in the resort town of Pattaya. He had spent 18 months in prison in his home country for drug trafficking and bank robbery, Lieutenant General Suwat Tumrongsiskul said.

The Swedish embassy had requested his extradition as part of a further investigation into his crimes, Suwat said.

"We investigated his entry to Thailand and found that his visa was expired. We had kept eyes on him and that led to the arrest," Suwat added.

"The arrests aim to get rid of suspects whose behavior is harmful to the Thai community," he said.

Pair to be deported

BANGKOK: -- The Immigration Bureau plans to deport two foreign men – a German and a Swede – arrested on Monday. Both are wanted by authorities in their home countries.

Immigration commissioner Pol Lt Colonel Suwat Thamrongsrisakul announced the arrests and plans to deport the pair.

He also revealed that Thai authorities were on the lookout for an American organised-crime boss wanted for alleged involvement in numerous murders in the 70s and 80s.

Becker Hans Dieter, 54, who was arrested at a house in Prachuap Khiri Khan, was wanted in Germany on charges of abetting and accepting bribes, as well as tax evasion. His alleged offences involved “damages” of about 300,000 euros (about Bt15 million).

The other man arrested was Bo Peter Soderback, 33, a Swede sought in connection with 19 crimes including two serious offences. Soderback's criminal record included thefts, bank robberies, drug trafficking and intimidation.

Suwat said Soderback was nabbed in Pattaya on Monday morning.

Suwat said authorities were also looking for James J Bulger, who is on the US Federal Bureau of Investigation's list of 10 “most wanted” fugitives following reports that the American had altered his appearance and may try to sneak into Thailand.

Bulger is being sought for his role in numerous murders committed from the early 70s through to the mid-80s in connection with his leadership of an organised crime group allegedly involved in extortion, drug deals and other illegal activities in Boston.

The FBI is offering a US$1 million reward for information leading directly to the arrest of Bulger.

Thanks for sharing this with us Vito. Here is a picture of the man that the FBI is looking for :

One of the ten criminals or more looked for by the FBI could be in Uruguay. Bulger, 76 years, also known like Thomas Baxter, Mark Shapeton, Tom Harris, or Tom Marshall, is accused to direct between 1970 and 1990 a criminal organization in Boston, Massachussetts (to the northeast of the United States), dedicated to the extorsion, drug traffic, money laundering, homicides and other crimes, said the local police to the AFP. To their band 800 murders are imputed to him about, including several executions of members of rival organizations. In addition to its responsibility like head, the own Bulger would have been in charge personally of several homicides with its preferred weapon, the knife. The FBI locates more to Bulger in the fourth place of the 10 looked for people in the world (between which it appears Osama Bin Laden) and offers one compensates of a million dollars to who contributes data that take to their capture. The persecuted one changed its appearance repeatedly, without avoiding that the track has been followed him by the United States, Canada, Europe and Mexico, but its sign was lost after it entered South America. The FBI suspects that it traveled to Uruguay from Paraguay. The Uruguayan police alerted all to its units to verify if Bulger really entered the country, and asked for the collaboration of the population to find out its whereabouts, if it is that it is in Uruguay.
