Is it true that the Philadelphia family only has about 10 or 15 made guys left on the streets?

The Phila. mob was flat on its ass after Nicky Scarfo's reign of terror and arrest. They've probably come back since then. I'll bet there are more than 15 made guys on the street. But, Willy, the complication is: how many of them are from Philadelphia and how many from other families that are operating there and in Atlantic City? Angelo Bruno, the "Gentle Don," forged ties with several NYC Mafia families. When gambling was legalized in AC, Bruno wisely decided to share the territory with other families, which set off the long-lasting war with Scarfo in the middle. Today, probably plenty of mob guys are strutting around AC and Philadelphia and calling themselves Philadelphia Mafia guys.

But the orginal Philly-family (Bruno-family) isn't much of a power anymore, right?

Thanks for the info everytime, Turnbull!

The original Philly Mob probably isn't as powerful as it once was. Nor are most other Mafia families today.

More broadly, Willy: Mafia has only as much power as people give it. As long as people want to do drugs, gamble illegally, borrow money from loan sharks, buy stolen goods cheap, etc., there's going to be a Mafia or other organized crime groups to serve their needs. Even so-called "legitimate" rackets like concrete and building materials, garbage collection, the NYC Fulton Fish Market, etc., depend on the willingness of people to let it happen. For example, the concrete suppliers, garbage truckers and fish suppliers benefit from the Mafia's control of their industries because Mafia cartelizes their businesses--protecting the companies from competition and fixing prices artificially high. The companies pass on their Mafia "tax" to consumers. If those so-called "legitimate" companies didn't let the Mob run their industries, there would be no more Mob.
