Mob Hit ? in NY - 08/19/03 01:23 PM

Here's a news item that caught my eye; from the Daily News, Tuesday, August 19.
HARDHAT SHOT DEAD IN MIDTOWN
"A construction worker on his way to a job site was shot between the eyes on a crowded street in the Garment District yesterday morning, police said.
Vincent Gargiuolo, 34, was walking on W.30th St near Broadway shortly before 7 a.m. when he was hit with a single bullet fired just above the bridge of his nose, cops said. He had been on his way to a site where con Edison is building a substation opposed by the community."
"Organized-crime investigators were among the swarms of cops who descended on the W.30th St. construction site, along with police dogs"......The slaying looked like a professional hit, sources said. But it was unclear whether Gargiuolo had any organized crime links."

Holy cow! Scary stuff. What links could a hardhat have with the tophats? Maybe he was doing some betting on the side? Just goes to show you're not safe anywhere you go if you mess with the wrong people.

Here's what I think happened.

The people didn't like the...well, whatever was being built. So a politician, seeing that if he could get it to stop, then somehow make himself look good, calls his frineds in LCN. He hires them to send a "warning" to the construction company.

That's my two cents at least.

Here is the same story from 1010 Wins.

--------------------------------------------------

Aug 19, 2003 7:54 am US/Eastern
(1010 WINS) (Orange, NJ) An iron worker who is the brother-in-law of heavy metal artist Dee Snider was shot and killed by an unidentified assailant in mid-Manhattan, according to published reports.

Vincent Gargiulo, 34, was on his way Monday to a Fifth Avenue Con Edison substation building where he worked when the shooting occurred, the reports said.

Police declined to identify the victim. Detective Joseph Cavitolo, a police spokesman, said the man was discovered around 6:50 a.m. on Broadway and 30th Street and was taken to Bellevue Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Officials do not have a motive in the slaying, but The New York Post and the Daily News reported in Tuesday editions that one of his co-workers was being questioned by police.

Garguilo's sister, Suzette, is married to Dee Snider, the lead singer of the 80s metal band Twisted Sister. The Post said both were also questioned by police and asked about possible motives in the killing.

But The New York Times reported that Gargiulo had a criminal record and had been arrested for assault and possession of stolen property.

Cavitolo no arrests have been made and an investigation into the case was continuing.

Dee Snider's BIL! Wow. That's put an even weirder twist on the story. Wonder if Dee will be the next Steven Segal and think he can take on the mob. He can start singing, "We're not gonna take it..."

I just heard that on CNN and was wondering if they were talking about the same NY murder. It's getting more and more interesting. They haven't concluded yet that it was definitely a mob hit tho right?

No they have not ... I will let you know when they do, if they do. I know some people with the NYPD and will ask them when I talk to them later.

Daily News, Thursday, August 21, page 26

Headline: Rocker in shock over kin's rubout.
"Twisted Sister singer Dee Snider said yesteday that the gangland-style slaying of his brother-in-law has left this family crushed and desperate for answers." The article goes on to say, "Police have theorized Gargiulo may have been targeted because of a failed business deal. ....Gargiulo....previously invested in 'Sculpt,' a failed Manhattan health club, and had dabbled in real estate."

Maybe he owed the boys some money...big money. I thought they broke legs first.

No they break your nose first, this guy just missed a bit!

Like Don Vito said, give it to someone that will not get carried away-

Opps- Maybe they told him to give him a shot in the nose and it was taken the wrong way!
