Mob Memoribilia - 07/03/03 07:12 PM

Thanks to some winnings in Atlantic City I "treated" myself to an autographed item which may be of some interest to you. Below is a scan of a signed check by Carlo Gambino (bottom right) which I just bought.

This "SGS" company was one of Gambino's legitimate businesses, a sort of real estate management company. The "G" in the title is for Gambino.

Very nice indeed. Always nice to treat yourself. Was the cancelled check from your winnings anywhere near the amount of this check?

First off, well done with your winnings. Secondly, that's a very cool item. Signed and all. I hope you're planning on getting it framed.

How much is the check for? Does that say $1500?

The check was made out for $1,500, apparently to one of the other named managers of the company. He cashed the check (ie. he didn't deposit it elsewhere). Not a bad sum of money for 1963.

I plead the Fifth on what I came home with from Atlantic City. :p

By the way, the loan shark just called.

Cool SC! I saw a framed copy of that check as well when I was in Vegas a couple months ago, in one of the casino shops!!!

One of the items I'd really, truly like to get isn't for sale. I spotted it in the Liberace Museum last April, in a part of the area that covers the gangster era of Vegas. It's a copy of the 1956 Las Vegas High School Yearbook, open to the photo of that year's Homecoming Queen: Teri Siegel, Bugsy's daughter.

Hey TB, or anyone who might know, what would you say is the most valuable piece of real-life mob memoribilia that most people would like to get their hands on, and how much do you think it's worth? And who owns it now? Not that I'd ever be able to purchase it!!!

Interesting question. Al Capone's bulletproof car has to be up on that list. It was a 1930 Cadillac complete with gun portholes. I imagine it'd sell for over $100,000.

I'd never be able to buy it, but would love to see it!
What ya waiting for SC, break out that checkbook and get yourself a piece of "real" mob history!! A car full of bullet holes is a little more exciting than a grocrey cart, don't ya think??

I STILL want to know if SC beat TIS in the rematch!

EDIT:

Oh crap, it looks like SC lost to TIS again :p

No problem for now, he is probably catching the firework show yet to come at the New York harbor. But watch out, he might come here qucikly before bed. However we had two SC TIS races lets go to another. TIS vs. Saladbar.
