mafia in israel !!

hi, I am from israel, and here we have several crime organizations, we have a family that her name i'm not going to say, thats making money from gambling and money laundering, the boss of that family controls lots of small organization that makes money for him. several months ago he was almost killed when his car exploded from a bomb, that was abig story, all the journalists were exited when it happend.

i lately heard that he is trying to get in to the politics, but idont think it will hapen.

isn't it true that the american mafia REALLY got started by the Jewish folks?

i dont know, but i do know that in new-york there is avery big and powerfull jewish mafia , but it dont have no relation to israel, that mafia is build by young jewish man that came from the new-york streets.

The Russian "Mafia" is big in Israel, and is well established in NYC. Bear in mind, though, that many (if not most) members of the Russian "Mafia" aren't Jewish. After passage of the Jackson/Vanik Act in 1974 (which forced the former USSR to liberalize Jewish emigration from the Soviet Union), forged passports with phony Jewish surnames became very hot property in the USSR, so that people could escape to Israel or the US.
PP: Jewish gangsters were far bigger than the Mafia during Prohibition--they ran the booze trade in almost all major US cities except Chicago, and even there, a Jewish guy (Jack Guzik) was second-in-command to Capone. But they didn't "form" the Mafia. The Mafia was mostly (relatively) small, neighborhood mobs until after the Castellemmarese War of 1930-31. First, Salvatore Maranzano, the victor, formed the NYC mobs into five families. Then Charlie Luciano whacked Maranzano, formed The Commission and began building a modicum of cooperation among Mafia families around the country.

Very cool TB, but I read once somewhere, (it was a personal account of a true gangster, I think it may have been some men's magazine) This guy was Jewish and he claimed that if it weren't for the Jews, the "Italian-American" mafia wouldn't have existed, due to lack of political influence, funds, etc. dont know what he meant by that, it just always stuck out in my memory.

Yes, I read that article. I think it was in Gentleman's Quarterly, and it was by some very old Mafioso who claimed (among other things) that Virginia Hill's brother Chick assassinated Bugsy Siegel. I remember his quote, but I think he was referring to the influence of Meyer Lansky. I thought he was exaggerating. Jews and others have operated and cooperated with the Mafia, but were never "made," for obvious reasons. But they didn't create the Mafia--they just helped the Mafia prosper, on occasion.
BTW: Among the other non-Italian, and non-Jewish Mob influentials was Murray (the Camel) Humphries, born in Wales, who was one of Capone's top ranking guys, and ran the labor rackets for the Chicago Outfit into the Seventies.
