Probably the mysterious "shotgun man" who took about 50 victims for the Black Hand in Chicago around 1910-11.

I guess I would be most like carlo Gambino. Due to the fact that he was very low key, he never wanted to bring attention to himself. I'm alot like that.

But even though he was low key, he could still be utterly ruthless.

If I were a gangster, I'd choose to be like Frank Costello:
--Chairman of the Board.
--Political eminence gris.
--Gambling, not drugs or prostitution.
--Seemingly deposed by a foe, but had the last laugh.
--Died peacefully.

Wasn't he one of the men that gunned down Masseria?

According to Albert Fried's "The Rise and Fall of the Jewish Gangster in America," the hit squad that dispatched Masseria consisted of Albert Anastasia, Vito Genovese, Joe Adonis and Bugsy Siegel. I read elsewhere that Abraham (Bo) Weinberg, Dutch Schultz's chief gunsel, may have participated. Charlie Luciano set it up, but went to the men's room when the shooters entered.

If Anastatsia, Adonis, Bugys, and Vito were the actual murder crew, no doubt "Long Leak" Luciano set it up, and other men such as Carlo Gambino, Gagliano, Lucchese, Profaci and Gambino went along with it. Maybe Costello was invovled SOMEWHERE!

"Long-Leak Luciano"--a good one, Ricardo!
Luciano was Masseria's second-in-command at the time. Salvatore Maranzano, Masseria's chief rival, importuned Luciano to betray his boss. Lucky refused, and Maranzano had him tortured until he agreed (Lucky's droopy eye was a result of that "persuasion"). But by that time, Maranzano had cleverly gotten most of the gangsters in the other families on his side. After Masseria was killed, Maranzano put Luciano in charge of Masseria's family. But then Maranzano declared himself capo di tutti capi.[ He then demanded tributes from all the NY Mafiosi. Giant mistake! The younger bosses appealed to Luciano, and he arranged for Maranzano to buy the farm. Ironically, Maranzano had been planning to knock off Luciano. Vincent (Mad Dog) Coll, his chosen hit man, was on his way to Maranzano's office when the killers of Maranzano were doing the job.

I totally agree about Capone. When I was younger I thought that he was so cool, but then I learned more about him. He's very much overrated. Now Luciano, he's cool. Let's just say that he was very "organized." I believe he is kind of underrated. I did not know who he was until I read Mafia Dynasty. I like Gotti, but Luciano was the original "Dapper Don."

He was a great publicity hound, and to many, he's as much a symbol of the Roaring Twenties as Lindbergh and Babe Ruth. I give him credit for organizing a big operation and for diversifying into other rackets (like labor). But, despite his wealth and power, he never totally dominated the booze trade in Chicago, never completely eliminated the freelancers or the North Side gang, his sworn enemies. He bought politicians by the truckload, but he was still forced to spend a year in a Pa. prison on a gun rap that he manufactured, in order to escape shifting political tides. He spent millions on lawyers, but only one was reasonably competent--and he fired that guy. He had an opportunity to settle the tax case with the government that probably wouldn't have resulted in jail time--and he let it pass by. His syphillis symptoms showed up early enough that a doctor wanted to give him a spinal tap to make a diagnosis, which might have resulted in early treatment. He turned that down, too, because he was afraid of needles. Sure, he made a lot of money, but he died miserably, nearly broke, after spending more than 10 years in jail, most of it in the nation's toughest lockup.

If you think about it you would want to be someone who had great fae, and was filthy rich, and wasn't murdered, outcast, or died painfully. Preferably, never shot.

That eliminates Anastasia, Siegel, Capone, Valachi, Costello, Maranzano, Masseria, etc.

Hmm, the one who lived the longest, was the richest, and wasn't discoverd until nearly 50 years into his career, never did jailtime, the "Mystery Benefactor", Meyer Lansky.

MAYBE Lucky Luciano, but if you're not lucky i wouldnt be a Luciano or else you'dve died in 1931.

If i had to pick another person it would be John Gotti because I get my way most of the time. The only differents was I didn't get put in prison.I still like Gotti though.

I think I'm more like Meyer Lansky, because like him, I know some really big people. Kind of like he was a friend of Lucky Luciano-a really important guy. I also know important people.

Dutch Schultz. I don't mean to say this like I'm proud of it or it's an accomplishment but I have a very short temper, like the Dutchman. His mouth got him in to a lot of trouble.

I'd have to say Carlo Gambino he kept low key didn't like the media and all the attention. He was able to make money for the family, and he was feared and respected.
