Amazon.com - Casino 10th Anniversary edition

The only bad thing about this DVD is it'll be a "flipper."

Well, that figures. Everytime I buy a fresh DVD, they come out with a better edition later (bunch of whores!)! I don't know, though, if it's a flipper, I suppose I'll stick with my original purchase.

Re: Casino Anniversary Edition? - 06/16/05 12:33 AM

Actually I saw it today. The back does NOT say that it contains footage from the movie itself that has never been seen before, instead it says something to the effect of never seen before behind the scenes stuff. It was very unclear.
Does anyone know for sure what it actually contains?

I think what they mean is the deleted scenes, which I believe is the first special feature listed. Is anyone else cheesed that they didn't have a commentary on this puppy!?

Yea, tell me about it! I got to the last 20 or so minutes of the movie, and the fucker froze on me. I got mine from Wal-Mart, so they won't accept it back once its opened, although they better accept an exchange.
Posted By: Irishman12

Re: Casino Anniversary Edition? - 06/16/05 11:25 PM

They won't even let you exchange it if it's opened!? Now you guys are scaring me because I haven't watched it yet I'll do so this weekend but I got it from BestBuy. I wrote Universal yesterday and told them how displeased I was with the DVD packaging (those latches on the side, flip disc instead of being double disc, and no Martin Scorsese commentary)
Posted By: Nice Guy Eddie

Re: Casino Anniversary Edition? - 06/16/05 11:41 PM

Walmart will only exchange it for the same title if it's opened. Pretty much standard policy everywhere.

Honest Opinon ladies and gentlemen; For a person who already owns Casino on DVD, is it worth it to repurchase the new edition?

I don\'t have it, but I\'d say yes.

Re: Casino Anniversary Edition? - 06/17/05 02:15 AM

Well, I found out the problem with mine...sort of. It's not the DVD that's messed up. I popped it in my portable DVD player, and it worked fine. I popped it in the DVD player in the living room, worked fine. So I guess my PS2 is just prejudiced against flippers.

Post your thoughts about Nixon in the 'movies...whoring' section. I think it's one of Stone's best. Anthony Hopkins, the Brit, plays a fabulous Nixon and Paul Sorvino is great as Kissinger.

Re: Casino Anniversary Edition? - 06/20/05 08:36 PM

I plan on doing just that tonight. I gotta shelve my work that I'm supposed to be doing but it's Stone so it's worth it. How would you compare JFK with Nixon? I think you know my love for JFK
Posted By: ronnierocketAGO

Re: Casino Anniversary Edition? - 06/20/05 08:43 PM

That's unfair. JFK and NIXON are two different movies.

Still, while JFK is better than NIXON, the latter is kinda underrated methinks. IT does display the paranoid self-destructing personality that Nixon was.

I'm sure they're 2 different movies but you can always compare to movies based on entertainment solely. You just said JFK was better youself

JFK is better, but Nixon is still a very good film. Like I said, Hopkins is outstanding. We both know Stone takes a few artistic liberties in his films. The stuff with the Nixon character shows how sad he was as a person. And it shows how gruff a personality he was. He was never happy - even when he won re-election. It wasn't enough to win - he was upset that he didn't win by more. I assume that's accurate, but I'm not certain. If nothing else, the film shows that Nixon could have been a great president had it not been for his paranoia and his obsession with the Kennedys.

One of my favorite scenes (it may be on the deleted scenes footage as I haven't seen it in 6 yrs) is when Nixon goes out to talk to protestors at either the Lincoln Memorial or Washington monument one night at a very late hour. He just kind of talks to the protestors and introduces himself as "Dick Nixon." You can tell he's uncomfortable, but he's making the effort to reach young people.

If nothing else, it made me appreciate Nixon the man a bit more than I had based on what I learned in history classes growing up.

Re: Casino Anniversary Edition? - 06/20/05 10:09 PM

I don't know much about Nixon but I'm really looking forward to this movie. I'm gonna start it probably in 50 mins or so. I'll post later tonight what I thought of it

AH! I just watched my copy last night, and it skips right around the part where Nicky comes back to the casino after being blacklisted! I didn't stick around to see how the rest of the video quality was...

I'm exchanging this for another copy today, and it better work!

Lots of people are have problems with the new Casino, there are a couple of threads at IMDB about this also.

You're telling me. I wrote them a letter voicing my disproval. The very first preview is for The Big Lebowski Special Edition out later this year and I bet you they screw that up just like they screwed up Casino

YESSSSS! A "Big Lebowski" Special Edition. Damn, I wouldve bought 3 or 4 current DVD releases if you didn't announce the Special Editions
Is there a problem with checking a disc before selling it? Of course, they cant play the whole disc through, but if the original didn't have a problem, why would the rest of the copies have. I have the same problem with Gladiator and many others...

Re: Casino Anniversary Edition? - 06/23/05 08:13 PM

I don't know. Mine worked and everybody else's doesn't seem to. You can purchase it and look at the disc before you leave the store. As to if they'll let you view it to make sure, it depends if the store has a DVD player or not

Re: Casino Anniversary Edition? - 06/23/05 08:33 PM

Well this is bizzare... All of a sudden mine works now. It's a good thing I tried it again, before returning it.
Posted By: Irishman12

Re: Casino Anniversary Edition? - 06/23/05 08:35 PM

Huh? That's weird. What are you playing it on, PS2, DVD player? I hope this convinces Universal to NEVER again release a double-sided disc They're just more trouble than they are worth
Posted By: long_lost_corleone

Re: Casino Anniversary Edition? - 06/23/05 08:48 PM

Well, last night I played it on a DVD player, but today I played it on a differant DVD player.

It still doesn't make sense though, because while they may have been seperate DVD player's they were the exact same model of DVD player's.

Re: Casino Anniversary Edition? - 06/23/05 08:51 PM

Who knows? It's a Universal DVD. I wouldn't put anything past them now. That company has gone to sh*t the past 2 years or so. They used to be my favorite DVD company but now my worst

Re: Casino Anniversary Edition? - 06/25/05 05:36 AM

Yeah... I get alot of my Universal DVD's for free. Not a bad deal, considering the recent batches are pieces of shit...

Unfortunately I did not Casino for free, due to the fact that it was a fairly anticipated new release, and they weren't handing them out to their employee's, but I've gotten quite a few other DVD's from them for free. I got all those Legacy Monster sets for free... You know, the ones with the old school Frankenstein and Dracula, and what not. Pretty cool.

Re: Casino Anniversary Edition? - 06/25/05 03:00 PM

Wow man, that's not a sweet deal! Hey next time you talk to her ask her to put booklets in with the DVDs, stop putting those stupid latches ont he side of the DVD, and for goodness sake, make a double disc DVD instead of a double sided DVD! But seriously if you do talk to her ask her if she knows when The Big Lebowski Special Edition DVD is due out? There's a preview for it on the Casino DVD and a web site, but the site just redirects you to Universal and it has no information on it. Didn't know if she maybe had "inside" information

Re: Casino Anniversary Edition? - 06/27/05 04:56 PM

I initially intended to buy this release, but now I think I'll wait for the two-disc one next month: http://www.dvdanswers.com/index.php?r=0&...26k%3D%26x%3D14 %26y%3D12

Regardless, I've wondered about the DVD with "Back home...", the documentary about Spilotro, Rosenthal, the real events behind "Casino" and Pileggi's book, etc. I was interested in it, initially, but it's only about 20 minutes long, and yet it costs *more* than a normal film. I doubt it's worth purchasing for that price (and I was hoping it would be among the extras in the new release...). Still, if someone watched the "Back home..." DVD, I would be interested in reading some detailed descriptions...

It's pretty much the same thing as the single disc edition...

It is. Cooler packaging though. I'd get it, if it weren't a Region 2 disk, and incapible of working on a U.S. DVD player.

I hate those "flippers!" I just got the Casino Anniversary Edition last Saturday and was disappointed not to see two discs in the case. The same thing happened when I got Goodfellas... Maybe it is just a Scorsese thing?

i briefly looked through it and only thought there was only 2.
