New Gangster DVD Being Released

Warner Home Video is releasing a DVD collection of gangster movies next Tuesday (January 25th) that is a MUST for any fan.



It includes:

Angels with Dirty Faces
Little Caesar
Petrified Forest
Public Enemy
The Roaring Twenties
White Heat

So, if you're a fan of Edward G. Robinson, James Cagney and Humphrey Bogart get ready! (It lists at $69, but you'll be able to do much better if you shop around. Barnes & Noble will sell it for $48).

Ugh! Damn the American market place, always trying to take my money!! Guess I gotta invest another 50 bucks. :rolleyes:

SC, where were you with this post earlier? For some strange reason I thought the release date was January 20th, so I took a ride to Best Buy earlier in hopes that I could get my hands on one. Sometimes, if they get it in the afternoon/early evening before the day it is supposed to come out, they'll sell it to you. So I took a shot! Unfortunately I was 6 days early! :rolleyes:

I just went to the BestBuy website, and they don't even have it listed! Instead they list each movie seperately for individual sale, coming out on the 25th! Hmmm, odd.

So I went to Barnes and Noble and pre-ordered the set. Free shipping right now on pre-orders!

I honestly didn't know of any gangster/mafia films that were made before the Godfather. Now that I joined this board and see there are tons of them out there, I am buying them lol

DC- when is your dvd scheduled to arrive??

I went to amazon to pre-order it and it is saying it won't be here until between February 21st and march 7th

The original e-mail to me said between Feb 2nd and Feb 6th.

I saw Little Ceaser once and loved it. I will certainly get the set coming out to see it again and all the others that I have not seen yet. Thanks Don Cardi for the tip.

My girlfriend is buying it for me . Too bad she won't watch them with me. She doesn't even like The Godfather. Hell, she won't even watch Goodfellas! I can't believe I'm still with her! (jk)

I got mine yesterday as well.... $44+ from BJ's!

The security guard who checks all outgoing carts picked up my DVD and commented on it. I felt like a little kid and wanted to grab it out of his hands and say "Gimme my movies back".

BTW, DC - Only two more episodes of "Rich Man, Poor Man" left. Its awesome!

Two more episodes, huh? Isn't it just a great series? Oh, btw, there are two mistakes in the show itself, did you pick up on them at all?

I noticed the World Trade Center in a scene when the sailor comes home, and its supposed to be 1960 something, so thats a mistake. Is that one of them?

Also, many scenes have cars that are out of date (ie. its supposed to be 1955, and you can see cars from the 1960's).

BINGO! You got it.

The second one involves Falconetti. When Tom finally fights him and they carry Falconetti out on the stretcher, look at his eyepatch. Then in the next episode, look at his eyepatch again! Tell me what is wrong.

Man, I can't wait to get a chance to sit down and watch these suckers, I've been busy all weekend and haven't even gotten to watch one.

I watched an hour of "The Roaring Twenties" it's pretty good so far.

I'm dieing to see White Heat but I'm waiting to watch that with my fiance.

Ive been busy all weekend and havent even got the chance to buy the things,not to mention available money.

Man, I finally got to watch Little Caesar last night (I'm going to watch them in chronological order) and it was awesome. I really liked it. I mean, there was a lot of corney kind of dialogue and stuff like that, but it was a great film. All the reviews I've read say Little Caesar is the worst of the films in this set, so if that's true I think I'm going to be very happy with this purchase.

The extras are great too. I liked the documentary thing with all the mob movie directors.

White Heat is on BBC 2 tomorrow. I shall be recording it (and thus, who knows when I will see it?). Watch this space.

I really didn't like Little Ceasar, seemed like once it got started it was over.

It was the first time I saw Edward G. Robinson and Cagney and I must say (just my opinion) Robinson is nowhere near as good as Cagney

The way I'd rank them right now is:

1. White Heat
2. Angels with Dirty Faces (If White Heat is a 10 this is a 9.99 in my book)
3. Roaring Twenties.
4. Public Enemy (only saw about 30 minutes of it so it could go up or down)
5. Little Caesar

I haven't watched Petrified Forest yet but from the preview of it it doesn't seem like it's something I would like.

I liked Public Enemy up until the end, I realize the message they were trying to get across but the ending just ruined it for me

All I have left now is Petrified Forest and the last half of the roaring twenties.

Petrified Forest really wasn't very good. Bogart made a good gangster and all, but he was mostly just scenery. I don't really know why they put that movie in this set.

What about the ending ruined it for you? I thought the ending was great. Well, except for Ma's singing.

Just watched Little Ceasar last night. Pretty decent movie.If I can find enough time, I'll write a review of each one and post em all here.

I guess I was expecting more from the ending. **I'm not one of these film guys who analyze movies etc..** I just get feelings and sometimes they are good and sometimes they aren't.
