Goodfelas and Scarface Question

Goodfelas and Scarface Question - 04/22/03 10:13 PM

I have watched Carlito's Way the other day, and it was quite good. But some scenes were a bit boring. I can watch Godfather(2-3 hour) films any day, but soem scenes in C.W were just boring. But he movie did have a lot of great scenes also. So my first question is Scarface better than C.W?

A week ago I watched Casino, and it was amazing. I will keep it short and just ask is Goodfelas better than Casino?

Just my opinion, but I feel Casino is just a 'slick' mafia film.

Goodfellas was a massive success, and I think that on the back of it, Scorsese went on to make a bigger budget, more glamorous film with less of a storyline.

Still an enjoyable film though.

Casino is just as good a film as Goodfellas I think, but doesn't maintain the viewer's attention as much. First time I saw both, I preferred Casino. Now I like Goodfellas more. Fact is, doesn't matter which one is bettr; go and buy Goodfellas anyway! Now!

I totally agree with you Mick. I loved Casino more than Goodfellas for a long time, but in maybe the past 6 months or so, with being on this BB & doing the Goodfellas dialogue game, I like Goodfellas more now. It's my favorite mob movie of all time! (Yes, that means it's better than Godfather IMO)

I remember watching Most of Casino and finding myself a little bored here and there as to where in Goodfellas my attention was drawn pretty much throughout the entire film, with the exception of the last 30 min or so with all the coke torubles and whatnot, that always seems to bore me a little. Goodfellas IS my fav mob film I'd say, its got alot of good elements. I have yet to see Carlitos Way but most of the BB members here gave it good reviews so its next on my rent list.

I had the exact same thing! I first watched Casino, a couple of weeks after that Goodfellas, and I didn't like it as much, but when seeing it the second time I liked it alot better.

I'm with you on Casino, GF--at three hours, there was no way Scorsese could sustain the pace that helped make Goodfellas such a great film. But, while we didn't get the slam-bang action and mordant humor of Goodfellas in Casino, we did get a careful, detailed view of Vegas operations, plus DeNiro's best performance since Goodfellas, plus an amazing performance from Sharon Stone. Still, Goodfellas was better overall.

I liked Goodfellas a lot more. Henry Hill's character was easier to identify with. I didn't like Sharon Stone's character in Casino, I thought it was much too focused on her.
