Taxi Driver - 11/06/02 07:16 AM

This is for all the Di Niro fans. It's not a mob movie but it sure is a classic. From being to end. especially the end. I would like some feed back on your thoughts of this movie. Also what do you think of his hair cut in the end..

Re: Taxi Driver - 11/06/02 09:03 AM

"you talkin to me?"- Travis Bickle
cool haircut, looks good on Mr Bobby. another one to look in this movie is Betsy, very appealing. Iris' too young . . .

See I new you would like this post. I agree with you to Betsy is a hottie. Also what do you think of Martian Scorese little part in the movie? Left me impressed.

Re: Taxi Driver - 11/06/02 05:06 PM

Cybill Shepard as Betsy sure was a hottie.

Martian Scorcese? -

Was that a typo or to emphasise that he's one scary dude in that movie?

Only Kiddin wid you!

I didn't like this movie! Too slow & what the heck was it supposed to be about? I watched it once & I was VERY disappointed with it! (Although I did like the whole, "You talkin to me parts"). The end was stupid too, how it ends with him, with his hair grown back, driving a taxi! Waste of my time!!

Re: Taxi Driver - 11/06/02 09:43 PM

I thought it was a great movie. Its one of DeNiros best roles.

Re: Taxi Driver - 11/06/02 09:56 PM

I agree, Don Palentino (and welcome, ChiChi, btw!). In fact, I think it was his greatest role (so far). It's one of those interpretive movies, which may account for its lack of appeal among the vast movie-going audience (which is understandable). To me, the movie was about the "dark side" which lurks in every one of us. Most everyone can repress it and deny it, unlike Bickle. What scared me was how much I can relate to the psycho he portrayed (to an extent) . I thought the "Walking Contradiction" conversation (regarding Kris Kristofferson) explained Travis Bickle well. In my humble opinion, Taxi Driver is a masterpiece.

What about Goodfellas or Casino?

Re: Taxi Driver - 11/06/02 10:24 PM

Goodfellas and Casino r great movies. But Taxi Driver is in a class of its own I really have to agree with you Snake it is a dark De Niro. I can relate a little to him also . Thax for the welcome in Snake..

Re: Taxi Driver - 11/06/02 10:59 PM

Did you guys know that De Niro went out a drove a Taxi through New York preparing for the movie. What a bad ass. Forgetabout it!!

Re: Taxi Driver - 11/06/02 11:09 PM

Irishman, I think you're missing the whole point of the movie. It's a cult classic that stays away from the commercial side of other films. It's a plotless film with so much darkness going on it draws you into unbelievable.

Yes ChiChi, De Niro sure did. He's that type of guy that really get's into some hand on experience for his role. Apparantly for his dialect training of Sicilian for Godfather II he travelled Sicilia for a few months too.

DeNiro actually does commercial roles like "Meet the Parents" in order to work with Scorcese on darker but not necessarily plotless "art" films. Anyone from NY can dig Taxi Driver and if you're not, you can learn about society, the isolation of the soul of 'everyman' at one time or another, karma, the fickle nature of popularity, the press, political hogwash and many themes appropriate for coffee and discussion. Or you could watch 'Rambo' instead.

And like Alfred Hitchcock, Scorcese likes to surprize us and pop up in his own films.

Welcome ChiChi!

Thaxs for the welcome in BronxKing it feels great to be able to talk to others on how they feel about these movies. I swear sometimes they feal as though there more then movies. Also Turi Giuliano, I did not know that De Niro went to Sicili to practice Sicilia he is such a great actor.

I REALLY dont wanna say anything too bad about Taxi Driver, but i honestly felt strangely about it. its like Irish says, i didnt quite get it. The only part i liked out of the whole movie is the "youtalkin ta me? and thats about it. Perhaps my young feeble mind couldnt quite grasp the true essence of this film.

I'm a FIRM believer in that. I know I had to watch Memento, Scarface, and Boondock Saints at least 2 or 3 more times before I started to "love them." Maybe one day I'll give it another shot, but I guess when I saw it, I expected a lot out of it, since I have always heard such good things about it. But as of now & the near future, I have no intentions of seeing it again!

Thats cool man. May be one day you will like it.

Re: Taxi Driver - 11/07/02 05:49 PM

I feel Taxi Driver is Deniro's best film (Second all-time to Scarface)

I really like it because of the depressing/dark story line. It seems like your not supposed to like Travis Bickle, but I can relate to him very much

Re: Taxi Driver - 11/07/02 06:10 PM

Taxi Driver for some reason does not transfer well to the small screen (TV). It is one of those film's that are made for Movie Theaters. In a dark theater with a large screen adds so much more to Scorsese's visual's.

Those who did'nt care for it. Do yourself a favour and try and catch it at a Revival House.
It's so much better in a theater.

BTW no one has mentioned the great performance of Harvey Keitel.
Posted By: Turi Giuliano

Re: Taxi Driver - 11/07/02 06:30 PM

I don't remember Keitel being in it. Maybe you're thinking of the partnership Keitel and De Niro did in Mean Streets.
Posted By: Capacino

Re: Taxi Driver - 11/07/02 06:41 PM

Welcome ChiChi,

It does as Snake says, portrays the dark side with chilling excellence.

Deniro always immerses himself into the nuts and bolts for every role.

Some were surprised at the transformation that prime physique took for Raging Bull.

Harvey Keitel plays the Pimp.

Re: Taxi Driver - 11/07/02 07:49 PM

Thats right he does play the pimp.{sport} He is the first one De Niro shoots when he gets to the whore house. tells him "SUCK ON THIS"

Also thanx for the welcome in Capacino. I have to agree to the way he gain all the weight was incredible in Raging Bull
