Cocaine Cowboys - 05/04/12 04:54 PM

Has anyone seen this documentary about the Cocaine trade in Miami, it is a really good documentary about the gangsters in S Florida and the cocaine trade, these were some really bad dudes, kind of like Italian mafia during bootlegging days

I watched it on netflix, if you are into this stuff, like you said it should be high on the list of something to learn about, the Colombians and the gangsters sent into Miami, like Scarface, were totally ruthless individuals, killing entire families and getting greedy, and one guy flipped and brought it all down

Both of them are good, the first one is more George Jung time era whilst the second is the crack cocaine and Griselda Blanco.

If anyone has ever read into the Kenji posts, one of his claims to fame is knowing about Blanco before the Cocaine Cowboys docs came out. Hell there were books about her years before Cocaine Cowboys 2 came out. One thing i did like was how it is brought out in number 2 that Blanco actually helped Pablo become what he was by getting him started in the big weight shipments.

I just read Roberts book (American Desperado) and it is a very good read. If you want to know more about the Cocaine Cowboys, this is the best I have found thus far. Roberts obsession for telling us how evil he is gets old.

Jon Roberts' book reaches Iceman levels of self-aggrandizement, exageration and downright fantasy.

I read somewhere that jon roberts father was a made guy any truth to that? I know that roberts died late last year and maybe was an informant for the feds?

John says at the start of the first Cocaine Cowboys documentary that he was involved with the mafia in running a few nightclubs or something along those lines.

Love the soundtrack music from Jan Hammer - Cocaine Cowboys Soundtrack Jan Hammer

I thought it was pretty good anyway, not as good as the first of course but still more than a decent watch.

It seems John Roberts(original name Riccobono) was a made man but fled to Miami after the death of a business partner. Must pick up the book American Desperado.
