Rock n' Roll Part II Pulled from NFL Stadiums - 06/27/06 05:20 AM

Heard about this on the radio when I was closing at Pizza Hut tonight:

LITTER'S ANTHEM PULLED FROM US FOOTBALL STADIUMS

Movie & Entertainment News provided by World Entertainment News Network (www.wenn.com)

Disgraced British rocker GARY GLITTER's sports anthem ROCK & ROLL PART 2 is to be removed from the playlists at America's football stadiums following protests from fans.

National Football League (NFL) officials have chosen to advise all teams to cease playing the tune after learning the song's 62-year-old author is a convicted paedophile.
Glitter, real name PAUL FRANCIS GADD, is currently serving a three-year sentence in a Vietnamese prison after being found guilty of child molestation.

Rock & Roll Part 2, which was written in 1972, has become a familiar anthem at sports stadiums across America. NFL officials hope the governing bodies of other sports like baseball and basketball follow their lead and ban the song.

Pretty f'n ridiculous, if you ask me.

The song has nothing whatsoever to do with the song writer's subsequent (alleged) actions...!!

It's bullshit, and the NFL are cowering asses!

Michael Jackson is a possible pedophile, does that mean I'm gonna throw away Thriller? No.

The league is most likely banning the song to avoid having to pay a royalty to the copyright holder (presumably the original artist).
The NFL therefore is refusing to confer a material benefit to a child sex offender.

Then again, that song is so cliche as hell to play in stadiums. Really, maybe finding a new song to replace that might not be so bad after all.

You're right, we need to progress from:

"Hey!.....Hey!"

to

"Who let the dogs out! (Who...who who...)"

Well I agree with Geoff.

Many times in this country, we base work upon the character of the creator. This is no exception. For some reason, the song played in those stadiums changes because of the conviction held by that man, the creator. The song is still the same, and so is the writer. He's the same man who wrote that song, and that's the same song which NFL stadiums have been playing for ages. What's the difference, suddenly he gets pinned with a crime in Vietnam. Now those weak enough to feel it, don't hear a "duh duh duh duh duh duh duh HEY!", instead, they feel resentment towards an innocent song due to the not-so-innocent man who wrote it several years prior.

Rape overseas, or at least molestation, is quite common. With rape on the rise in Africa, the count of South African children being raped each day in 2002 was about 60 (and it's only increased since then). Multiply what that man did by about 2200 and you get what happens annually in South Africa. Could you imagine how those same numbers would add up in the United States? We place our high moral fabric above all others, and yet, when it comes to Africa, they're only statistics?

I would consider myself to be prouder American if these figures upsetted fellow citizens more than a song being played in a stadium. It's time for people to take a stand on such an important issue.

:p [/b][/quote]Again, you're cliche dude. Really, I went to Atlanta Falcons football games, well one per season, for the last 5 years, and you know what recent song of that time span has become a popular song choice at the Georgia Dome?

Eminem's "Lose Yourself"

Not that I ever cared for the guy, but now I actually expect to hear at the games. Weird, but interesting.

Besides DJ, I'm sure the Yankees can stop with that famous routine of theirs with the different versions of "New York, New York" based on wins and loses.

ya but fuck the Mets.

Then again, those Mets are doing some good shit. I can't hate on them. Besides, would love that somebody for once outside of Atlanta wins the division...though my Marlins still suck. FUCK!

There's no 'allegedly' about it. Gary Glitter is a convicted Paedo in Britain AND Vietnam now. That's why the Michael Jackson argument doesn't stand - for now anyway!

I like the royalties argument. If that's true you've got to admit it's sensible and very responsible to not contribute financially to convicted paedo's.

Cliché or not though, the song fits the stadium atmosphere - well from what I've seen on TV. And I would have wanted to be part of that one day. As an outsider it just seemed part of the US sport culture. I got a mate, a big hockey fan, who recently went to a Flyers game. I should have asked if they still do that classic hockey build up tune.
