Le Samouraï - help me! - 01/19/06 08:31 PM

I'm about to finish downloading it and I know I'll have some trouble finding the right subtitles so I figured if any of you movie buffs who showed me could help me! do you know where (if) I can find english subtitles for it?

If you download a movie I'd assume it comes with the subtitles or not. It's not like a DVD where you select it. Can't wait to see your opinion on it. It's my favorite film of all time.

I doubt it will come with subtitles. it will probably be just the audio in french, and since I doubt I'll find portuguese subtitles, I'll try to find the english subtitles...

Fame told me about this film, but I havent seen it yet. I'm not sure which version he saw (because he also speaks French) but ask him when he'll be back.

Also, in the other thread, DVC said :

NO

FUCKING

WAY!!!!

YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME!!!

THE VERSION OF LE SAMOURAI THAT I DOWNLOADED HAS NO SUBTITLES!!!!! "

And on the same page, Irishman said :

Le Samoura ** 1/2

Hitman Jeff Costello is a perfectionist who always carefully plans his murders and who never gets caught. One night however, after killing a night-club owner, he's seen by witnesses. His efforts to provide himself with an alibi fail and more and more he gets driven into a corner.

What I liked most about this movie was the fact that the main character Jef didn't speak a lot and that his presence on screen was as great as it was. The ending had a nice little surprise to it too. I watched this with a friend and he fell asleep during it but I did enjoy it somewhat "

So ask them, maybe they know about the subtitle...

There's only one downloadable version and it has no subtititles. The worst part was there's no dialogue for the first 10 minutes of the movie. So I was really getting into the movie and loving it, then I was hit with a very harsh reality. No subtitles.

I recently ordered the criterion DVD from overstock.com. Still hasn't arrived yet.

I don't get what there is no know about subtitles.

Either the downloaded movie has it or not. Whats to know? If you don't have them, download a different version, or buy the movie. It's a $30 Criterion.

Do you have a .sub or a .srt file included?

I've never downloaded a feature length film before. From watching short films, though, I suspect the quality of them isn't up to scratch. Really, to appreciate the film, I recommend, or advise, you buy the DVD.

Kinda tough when:

A) I don't have a job

B) Most of the films I want aren't sold in any stores around my area

I just got the DVD in the mail. Can't wait to watch it!!

Re: Le Samouraï - help me! - 01/23/06 06:53 PM

well, I know it would be better to watch it on DVD, but believe me, I will NOT find it! if I go to a DVD store here and ask for Le Samouraï, the guy will think I'm crazy.

the fact is I'm used to download films and then search the web for portuguese subtitles (in .txt archives). if you put this archive and the .mpg archive (the film) with the same name it runs with subtitles. apparently none of you knew about it!! well, since I know the movie has very little dialogue, I'll watch it anyway

You don't have FYE or Borders near you? Both have it.

Re: Le Samouraï - help me! - 01/23/06 07:53 PM

I looked in both stores Vercetti, and neither of them had it. It's okay though, cuz I have it now.

Haven't watched it yet...maybe tonight. I never have any time.

If you go to a two story Borders store they have a large selection of movies, and an entire foreign section, so it would be a good bet for non-owners to look there. I got mine at FYE, which was a surprise.

thanks for the help but I don't even know what the hell is it! like I already said in these boards once, sometimes stupidity edges globalization... is not like we live in the middle of the jungle here, but believe me, finding a french movie from 1967 in my hometown is as hard as finding hair in an egg. finally the download is over. maybe I'll try to learn french from watching some Godard movies...

Re: Le Samouraï - help me! - 01/23/06 10:21 PM

I just noticed that Le Cercle Rouge's download is about to end too - 67.7% at 5.46KB/sec - I still have a few months to find subtitles!

Re: Le Samouraï - help me! - 01/25/06 06:04 PM

Maybe someone can help me. I downloaded a torrent for The Seventh Seal. It's from the Criterion DVD, but the video lacks subtitles.

Is there anyway I can get them without downloading the entire movie again?

Re: Le Samouraï - help me! - 01/25/06 10:15 PM

I don't know if some one is understanding what I'm saying (about downloading the subtitles) and I'm not sure what's a 'torrent' but apparently, DV, you need to do the same thing I just did.

there are several websites where you might find a "downloadable-.srt-archive" with the exact subtitles for the movie you wanna watch. then you name it with the exact name of the video archive and the subtitles just appear there!

Re: Le Samouraï - help me! - 01/25/06 10:22 PM

I found a site with subtitles but I don't know what to do with it. I name it the same exact name as the file? I tried that already.

Re: Le Samouraï - help me! - 01/25/06 10:34 PM

exactly! if it didn't work, try another software. that doesn't work on Windows Media Player. one that I know it works is BS Player.

Re: Le Samouraï - help me! - 01/25/06 10:43 PM

What does it work on?
Posted By: Tony Mosrite

Re: Le Samouraï - help me! - 01/25/06 10:51 PM

at BS Player, you simply name the files the same, and when you run the movie, the subtitles just appear there. that is "working"

Re: Le Samouraï - help me! - 01/25/06 11:03 PM

I downloaded that but the subtitles are too fast.

One character says "Who are you" a few seconds after the subtitle. How do you adjust it?

Re: Le Samouraï - help me! - 01/25/06 11:15 PM

then that is not the right archive. that happens a lot, is because of the 'frames per second' but I don't really know. I just keep searching until finding the right one.
