How Deep is Your Allegiance?

How Deep is Your Allegiance? - 01/15/06 06:23 PM

Just got the new issue of Playboy in the mail and in it I read an interesting fact. According to the insurance company Progressive, 35% of Americans would change political parties for $500.

Now the little blurb didn't specificy to what extent you would have to make the switch, so it's hard to draw any rationale conclusions. For example, does switching parties simply imply that one would have to register with the other party and continue voting however you want, or is switching parties an implication you would have to vote according to the opposite party views as well.

So for our discussion, let's base our answers on the assumption that you would have to vote down the rival party's line. Would you switch for $500? If not $500, how much money would it take? Would you even switch for any amount of money?

I would obviously switch for $500 because I don't really have a political party that I consistently vote for. As a matter of fact, I think that could make a pretty lucrative career. I'll just keep switching back and forth infinitely until I am the richest man alive. It would definately pay more than teaching.

I'd switch, but I'd want at least $1000.

Those fat-cat Republican friends of President Bush could afford it.

And in the next election, they're gonna need every vote they can get.

Seriously, though, I would switch, but not for only $500. My principles are worth more to me than that.

But I'd sell my principles right down the river for, say, $5000. I'd probably even switch for less.

I just don't know exactly what the number would be.

I've always said that you are really just a politician at heart!

Well, considering that both parties would sell everyone of us out and in an instant get down on their knees, open their mouth, and proceed to show who is their boss.....MONEY.

So ya, I want a cut of my own....

That depends. Now I'm socialist, but if someone would offer me enough, I would certainly vote for the Catholics and the Communists, and even for the Liberals.

I think you added to many zeros to that post, I would say that fifty bucks would really be your price. That would be cash money of course. That way you wouldn't leave a paper trail.

I'd switch parties a few times:

Liberal to Conservative : $5000
Conservative to Liberal : $500

Going back to the party I started with : Priceless!

I would like it if they paid me for coming to the elections at all. I feel every time less motivation.

if it meant I couldnt vote in the primaries I wouldnt switch for anything, however if the primaries were open I would switch for $500, cause I could still vote as I please.

Kent: Senator Dole, why should people vote for you instead of President Clinton?

Kang: It makes no difference which one of us you vote for. Either way, your planet is doomed. DOOMED!

Kent: Well, a refreshingly frank response there from senator Bob Dole.
