I just recently got my 3rd tattoe while i was in Australia,very painful but i love it.

1)Lennon 1940-1980 on my left forearm
2)MUFC (Manchester United Football Club) on my right forearm.
3)The Beatles, on my Chest

Does anybody else have any and what do you have

I have a Rat Fink on my upper right arm. I still need to get it colored.

I've got the quote "sai pra lá negativismo" in my right forearm. this is in portuguese and I don't know how to translate it, it's more like a slang from a rap song by SNJ.

Since the day I have had this condition I had everyone on my blacklist tattooed on me. It is very crowded, I wish I had those that are not on my blacklist tattooed. :p (J/K) No tattoos on me.

Afs, I have a similar tattoo... Everyday I wake up and wonder what they are, but by the end of the day, I realize that it's my hit list. By then it's too late to do anything about it, so I leave it to the next day, and the same thing happens.

Anyway, I don't have any tattoos either. I can hardly decide in the morning what shoes to wear because I don't want to make a whole day's commitment to just one pair... I'd die if I had the same tattoo every day for the rest of my life!!

Besides, they can make mistakes, and you're stuck with that mistake forever... for example, Britney Spears wanted the Chinese symbol for "Mysterious," and instead they did one that translates to "Strange." I think the latter suits her much better.

I've wanted to get one but I'm not going to. My brother has what I wanna get, a Yankee logo on his right arm. The other tattoo that I'd get would be a celtic cross (without the ring) with the Ireland flag draped over it like a banner (if anyone's seen that painting?). I'll try to find a picture of what I'm talking about & post it.

Nice one Part.Ive considered getting a Godfather one before, but the thing is I'm really too pussy. It took forever for my friends to persuade me to get my ear pirced, and when I started to hate that, all I had to do was take it out. The thought that one day (gasp) I might hate it, but not be able to take it off scares me.

I don't like tattoos either. Both my sons-in-law have a few of them, and I guess I'm use to them. I have to admit some are neat (like Part's), but tattoos are not something I'd put on my body. :p If I'm gonna decorate myself, I'd prefer nice jewelry. :p

My left feels a little bare...I like Tigers but I don't know about getting a tattoo of one. I looked at some on a site briefly today and a lot of them looked like shit. Plus if it is going to be on my body forever it better mean something to me forever. I don't know. I like the idea and I can see how people can say tattoos are addictive (after the Gabriel one I almost immediately started thinking about another one) but I can't think of anything I would really want.

Although I'm probably right in the middle of you and Capo. I'm a Christian but I also support tattoo art. Of course there is good and bad art and some people get tattoos that may look worse than others, but then again it's art so the quality isn't definitive. My only tattoo is a simple solid black cross. I'll post a picture later if I remember to get the camera out.

What are the reasons that people get tatooes? I have no desire to get one, so I'm curious to know some of the reasons AND were they done on a whim, a dare, a plan, etc.

Since you have rephrased the question to exclude the God angle out of it, let me attempt to actually answer it.

Beautification, projecting a certain personality or individuality, art, memory, permanency.... it can be any of these things that motivate people to have tattoos.

I got one to honor my son. Sort of like a pretty scar to show the world.

I like the idea of flesh as identity. It's mortal, it decays naturally, it's perhaps our only physical proof of our existence. (I feel, therefore I am?)

So, in continuing with flesh as identity, it's also a blank canvas on which we might paint whatever decoration we see fit.

Cronenberg's explored this twice: in Crash (1996), and in Eastern Promises (2007). Greenaway does it to good effect in The Pillow Book (1996), too. But those are deeply non-Christian artists.

Purely decoration. I'm sure each tattoo has a different meaning to the individual but it's all about your appearance. What's the point of cutting your hair? Or putting on clothes? Or jewelry? What's the point in doing anything that alters your appearance?

You obviously would never get a tattoo and nobody is suggesting that you do.

What I don't understand is why somebody would eat Pop-Tarts cold. But that doesn't really have anything to do with tattoos, unless you take into consideration how hot the middle of a Pop-Tart is and it temporarily alters the inside of your mouth by burning the hell out of it. Reminds me of piercings... only temporary because they heal and the holes close up.

Rarely is that a CHOICE one makes... parents don't tattoo their infants w/o asking them first.

I have my opinion on it, and I'll say I'm glad my parents chose to have me circumcised.

And infants don't get tattooed because it would stretch out weirdly and just look strange, and what if the infant decides they don't like it when they turn 3 or 4?

I'm going to have my baby tattooed, but mostly just because I hate children. It'll know not to fuck with me when it's 20, and no girls want anything to do with him because there is a giant penis with razor sharp teeth on his face.

But it permanently alters your body. If we are to believe that God gave us the body the way God wanted it then why would would it be okay to circumcise a baby, especially without it's permission. That even seems worse.... if in fact you believe we shouldn't alter our bodies in any way because:

the skull is in my left thigh. it is a "day of the dead" skull and it's a common old school tattoo design. I designed the colors and other details.

the lighter is another traditional old school tattoo. these were both made by a close friend of mine who is trying to become a profesional tattoo artist so that was an incentive for both too. the skull was almost for free I have bigger tattooes in my back and right leg.
