Free Tickets For New Jersey Nets

Free Tickets For New Jersey Nets - 12/09/04 02:20 PM

The Nets have sent me 20 free tickets for the game on Tuesday, January 11th, at 7:30 PM.

If you follow basketball at all, you'll know how hard it is to give away even one ticket to a Nets game, much less 20

Anyone who wants a couple, drop me a PM.

Man I'd LOVE to go, but I'm only gonna be up in New York from December 14 until January 7 b/c I start school on the 12th. Any ideas where Kidd's gonna go? Man, Jersey sucks this year!

Basketball for being such a visually beautiful game is rather boring. In most sports scoring is something special but in bball it's not. You score, you go down the other end, the opposition scores. Repeat 50 or so times. But some of the stuff they do is incredible. The highlights look awesome to watch but a game bores the hell out of me. Scoring should be special, not something you do 800 times in a game.

Why don't all the teams just start off with 70 points each then just play for half a quarter?

Although I'd love to go to see a bit of fighting.

A little off color, but I heard a joke about the Pistons brawl that someone went to a basketball game and The Vibe Awards broke out.

Hey, don't shoot the messenger.

I have to disagree with you on that. That's why I don't like hockey or soccer b/c there ISN'T enough scoring. They slap the ball or puck around for like 40 minutes to an hour and the game either ends in a zero/zero tie or 1-0 final. Come on, I wanna see some scoring! PUT THE BALL IN THE NET!

Irishman what you said can be summed up by the simpsons

American soccer announcer: "center passes it to the right, (annoyed) and now back to the center, (bored) center passes it to the left, and now back to the center, (dieing of boredom) the center holds it, holds it, holds it."

Spanish soccer announcer: "CENTER PASSES IT TO THE RIGHT (EXCITED) AND NOW BACK TO THE CENTER, (REALLY INTO IT) CENTER PASSES IT TO THE LEFT, AND NOW BACK TO THE CENTER (ALMOST OUT OF HIS SEAT) THE CENTER HOLDS IT, HOLDS IT, HOLDS IT!"

Re: Free Tickets For New Jersey Nets - 12/09/04 04:52 PM

That's cool Irishman, I was just trying to provoke a discussion.

I feel there's enough excitement in low scoring type games like football (US football) and football (soccer) without excessive scoring. It's embarrassing to see too much scoring. 2 recent examples - The Cincinnati - Browns game (58 - 48) and for the UK people the Arsenal - Spurs (5-4) game. That doesn't say much about defensives.

Maybe I'm more prone to like lower scoring type games just by being English and loving soccer.

In US football, you get the excitement of big plays and first downs building upto scores. The same can be said for soccer in offensive battles, corners and close goal free kicks. Then, when finally that TD or goal comes in you get that huge adrenaline rush knowing something game changing has happened.

But for me, with basketball, scoring is the norm. And because there's nothing extra than that it gets a little boring.

Turi - if you think like that, just think about a steal or a blocked shot as a goal

well, I love soccer, basketball, baseball, and I like very much football, so I don't know what to say in this discussion. I like them either way, and in this subject of scoring, I like the fact that a baseball game can end as low as a 1-0 or as high as a 20-15. each game is a different thing.

Re: Free Tickets For New Jersey Nets - 12/09/04 06:05 PM

I understand your opinion Turi and I respect it. I feel that way about getting excited over a home run or a triple in baseball. Now baseball I LOVE! Watching someone hit a homerun with the game on the line, or sqeeking a single through the infield to score the final run is just so gratifying!

Re: Free Tickets For New Jersey Nets - 12/09/04 06:09 PM

Whoa, baseball is a whole other issue. Don't get me started on that. :p

In basketball you can pretty much guarantee that both teams, in any game, will score at least 70 points each. I can't think of any other sport in which I can make such a bold statement. I'm saying, why not start off with 70 points each at the beginning of the game instead of wasting all that time and then just play for half of a quarter?

Turi, I know what you mean.Theres no doubt that those guys have skills, but I dont think I need to sit there for an hour or so watching people run back and forth.

He has a no trade clause, and supposedly refuses to go anywhere but to a title contender.

Here's a link, if you're interested, to a Nets Message Board where they talk about all the trade rumors

Re: Free Tickets For New Jersey Nets - 12/10/04 01:49 PM

I wish.....

He doesn't need me for tickets, though. When I saw him there it was the NBA finals, and he was sitting in the owner's luxury box.

You sure you don't want to go? JG said he may.....we can really stretch out among all the empty seats.

Look, if you're that desperate to get rid, I'll go. Might be a good chance of a rook. Any free airline tickets going too?

Man, this must be one lousy team! I can't believe no one is accepting PLaw's offer. I thought all you sports fans would see any game. :p

yes it is a lousy team :p they SUCK this year. if the Hornets, Bulls, Bobcats weren't so bad, they could be the worst tam in the league.

anyway, if I didn't live two continents away I would definitely go.

Re: Free Tickets For New Jersey Nets - 12/12/04 05:29 PM

Paul,
call your local service groups and see if they could use them. They would pass them to a poor family with kids who would never get a chance to see a pro game. Maybe a group member could even take a kid who maybe doesn't have a father who could take him.
What a win - win thought.

Hey, that's a great idea.

If I wasn't such a mean, old, cantankerous curmudgeon, I mught consider it. :p

I always wondered what happened to old Scrooge in these modern times......

Come on and break down....give some poor kid a chance to hate the nets like so many others do.

Yes, send they without your name or return address. That way you can keep your dark side in tact.
