May I share some good news?

May I share some good news? - 02/29/04 10:54 PM

Although many of you know I have two married daughters, what you don't know is my oldest daughter is due to have her second baby (my second grandchild) on March 1st. smile Last night she called me saying she was having contractions and needed me to go there to watch the other baby, so her and my son-in-law could go to the hospital. Needless to say, I flew down there, so excited and so happy to help out. grin

Well about 3:00 a.m. they come home and no baby. frown False alarm). All thru this pregnancy the whole family seems to prefer that this baby not arrive on the 29th. (like we have a choice right?) lol I am wondering if there are any truths or myths in regards to being born on leap year. Hopefully good things. grin Logically and realisitcally it doesn't really matter, and we all know that. A healthy baby is the important thing, and believe me, none of us are losing sleep over this issue, but I wonder why there is such a feeling on all our parts because of the 29th of February. I mean, other than your exact birthdate coming every four years, what's the difference??? Anyone know anyone born on a leap year?

I am back home now, but anticipate this could occur yet today, or at any rate, very soon, and have an overnight bag ready to go. I'm so excited!!! grin

Well, I don't know anyone born on a leap year, but I was 1 day off of beeing born on one. My birthday's March 1st, and I was born during a leap year, so just 1 day late grin

Well, let us just hope that it is a healthy baby no matter when it comes. One day is as good as another. I bet you are excited. Please let us know when the big event does happen.

TIS, I wasn't aware that you were a grandmother anyway! Forgive me ignorance. Well, whether the baby is born on the 29th or not, I wish you and your family luck with the newborn (that sounds like it's a chore, which I didn't mean! tongue ). I'm sure he/she will grow up to be just very handsome/beautiful, just like your daughter! wink And of course, they'll have the Sicilian brains too--and will be able to kick some ass of course!

It would be strange to think that in 20 years (2024) your grandchild would've only celebrated 5 birthdays. rolleyes

Keep us posted, TIS!

TIS, was their first child a masculine child?? grin
I'm not aware of any particular superstitions regarding Feb 29 babies. Birthdays in our family are pretty strange. My Mom and brother share a birthday (May 6). Other birthdays include brother (July 18) Dad (July 19) brother (July 20). This last brother has a daughter also born on July 20 (his wife was born on July 22). I also have nephews and neices born on Christmas Day, Feb 29, April 1 (a little April Fool to be sure)and July 4 confused

Thanks everyone for your well wishes. smile Well, definitely not gonna be a leap year baby. grin We are still anxiously awaiting the "word". I have my bags packed and ready to leave at a moment's notice. grin

Senza Mama, the first is a feminine child, so certainly a "male" would be nice, as I'm sure my son-in-law would love to teach him "sports". However, nothing says a female can't be good at sports as well. grin

Thanks for your wishes and I will announce when he/she arrives, as I probably won't be able contain my excitement. tongue blush

I read something in the newspaper over the weekend that in one family in England, the grandad, dad and daughter (ie 3 generations of the family) all celebrate their birthday on 29th Feb. What's the odds on that? Apparently its in the Guiness book of records.

29th Feb is also traditionally the one day of the year us girls can ask men to marry us, but I think I'll wait until Mr Bella Mafia UK asks me. Hopefully I won't have to wait until the next leap year!!!

PS TIS hope everything is OK smile smile smile

I remember reading in Guiness that there were three siblings in England who were born on February 29 in 1960, 1964, and 1968.
