Well then let me be the first to chime in. It was totally freezing yesterday, getting down to 32. The wind is what did it. So cold my grandkids made a snowman just a few miles from their house. That's cold for sunny California. Today very clear, sunny and will get about 58-60. The wind stopped so it's much better.

Temps have been in 20s. Winter has arrived. I would like to hibernate from Jan 2 to March 16 (don't want to miss St. Paddy's day). At least daylight is getting longer.

Snow and teens temperatures here in the High Desert. We're affected by the same weather pattern that put TIS in the deep freeze.

OMG, freezing here. I know it's no big deal to most here, but when I went to the park for my run today, the grass was covered with icy snow. You don't see that a lot in my area. In some areas, it got down into the 20s. In my area, 32. That's cold!!!!

They are having a pretty bad ice storm in Texas, I'm trying to get our crew out there as they have been getting hit since the 31st and are expecting more tonight.

So funny to see ppl here in California dressed like we are getting snow in beanies, gloves, scarves, heavy coat, thick pants when I go on the trail in the morning. It was 43 degrees and I'm wearing work out pants just below knee, tee shirt, and light sweatshirt hair in pony tail. I must be a hot blooded Italian Jersey girl.

It's a "stay-home-day" today. It's snowing (about 3 inches on the ground now) but is expected to change to sleet/freezing rain later and then ice tonight before it all changes over to plain rain tomorrow. This is the same storm system that brought snow to southern California.

Cold and frosty!!

62 degrees yesterday, torrential rain and wind last night. 5:30 am walked outside to a gorgeous full moon with a rainbow-like, wispy cloud across the moon. 35 degrees and no sign of rain on the ground.

It poured all weekend here and was in the 60's. By Thursday or Friday the high will be 32 and the low 13. BRRRRRR!

Boy, what a great change here from just a few days ago. It's 80 degrees and sunny. My kind of weather!!! Just went for a nice long walk. First time in a long time, I didn't wear a jacket.

Ole man Winter did a bad thing on PA, NJ and NY yesterday - flash freeze. Light rain came down on cold pavement and created a skating rink. HUndreds of accidents and pile ups resulting in several deaths. Not good.

Getting ready for an HISTORIC snowstorm in the NYC area. Monday night into Tuesday will bring up to TWO FEET of snow. The City and surrounding areas are now under a Blizzard Watch.

That is some UNPREDICTABLE weather by you. The day to day temp fluctuates so much. Well at least you won't be weathering any storms in NY so you're good. I bet the night sky is beautiful, less light pollution.

Snowing again..

Winter Storm Juno. Really, a name for these winter storms. Just doesn't have the kick-ass feeling like a hurricane. Anyway, Juno in South Jersey is turning out to be a slow starter. A few flakes today, but temps were in the mid 30's. Just now it is hitting 32, but still just a windy drizzle most of the day. Now it is suppose to snow in the wee hours of the morning and the wind might kick up to 25 mph. So I might wake up to 3-5". Gotta feel sorry for Boston - 75 mph gusts and lots of snow. That will deflate your balls.

All those people who bought milk and bread. Enjoy your toast, sandwiches and milk shakes. I'm sippin' a vodka martini at the moment.

In New York City?

I just pushed about 3" off the driveway, porch and walkway. Light powdery snow.

But I know I will be out there with the blower late night or in morning for the big stuff.

I talked to my cousin earlier today about noon and they only got about a half inch of snow. How are you east coasters making out over there with the storm?

Where's this "blizzard" at?? Two days ago I was supposed to see up to 30" of snow, and so far got maybe 4" -- Guess I shouldn't complain! Or, I just jinxed it......

Half of my driveway is still bare. The local newspaper has a new "weather person", who started yesterday. His first column warned of 12-18" possible in Atlantic County. This morning he is apologizing.

Snow should end in South Jersey-Philly by noon with less than 4" accumulation. There is a statewide travel ban, but the TV News showed wet pavement on the AC Expressway. It is windy and what little snow there is, is blowing around.

Miserable in North Central Illinois right now. Absolutely miserable.

14 + inches already and it's still snowing with 45 mph wind gusts.

Snow in the driveway up to my knees and down by the street after the plow went by this morning is well past my waist high.

Oh, and did I mention that it's still snowing.

Schools let out here early today and was postponed 2 hours yesterday. Too many out in the country have to sit and wait and/or walk too far and it was 12 which is freaking cold for here.

We even had a dusting of snow here in my part of Las Vegas. I stepped out last night while it was raining and it was barely above freezing.

The foothills west of town are still covered in snow.

In Ohio, the weather has been like the Pine Barrens episode from the Sopranos. For about 3 straight weeks.

I'll bet people would be surprised at how cold it can get in Vegas. I've been there in winter and saw some flurries. AND it gets extremely hot in the summer. One extreme to the other.

Funny you mention the Pine Barrens, since I live on the edge of the Barrens. In fact we are within the jurisdiction of the Pinelands(barrens). Funny thing, when I saw that episode, I said to myself, "that's not the Pine Barrens, it looks like Harriman Park (in Rockland/Orange county in New York). I spent many days fishing, hiking and wandering around Harriman Park. The ending scene; a fade away scene of Tony driving near a lake. I blurted out - "That's Lake Tiorati!" Having driven through the heart of the Pine Barrens; it's flat and as the name implies, full of pine trees, no maples and oak like the scene in Sopranos. Artistic license.

35 and raining all damn day here. Has snowed up to 8" already in North Bama. Didn't think we'd get any callouts on this storm but things are looking that way if this keeps up.

Beautiful!!! Just a note. Not very many areas (except forest type) in SoCal where you DON'T see palm trees. When we first moved here the Palm Trees and the red tile roofs were two immediately visible things we didn't have in MI.

Hi A-Girl. I'm doing ok. It's been around 100 as far as I know. Yea, pretty hot. I've heard reports of another El Nino (I think they call it Godzilla) coming to the West Coast. Supposedly would get rid of our drought. That's great, as long as it doesn't get rid of people, homes,etc. If I've learned anything the 37 yrs I've been in CA, it's the weather is always exaggerated. I guess so much sunshine, that weathermen/women are dying for something BIG to report.

My son said that since the field grass is dying out they are not allowed to play soccer or run on it during recess. It's pretty much off limits. What a shame! The kids can only play on the black top or on the playground.

Pretty soon we may look like Barstow or Arizona. Hopefully, we will get some heavy rains this year to get us out of this drought.

I'm with you TIS. I'm very afraid of snakes. They have had snake warning signs permanently posted at every park over here for years but luckily I haven't seen a snake yet. Once they start building homes, you're right, all the poor animals have to find somewhere else to go. Hopefully, far away from you and your neighbors.

Our town looks pretty awful with all the grass dying out so it is great that they are recycling water over by you.

77 degrees right now it's a lil past midnight. El Niño está aquí. At least you have the ocean breeze to cool your area down. That really helps. We have a ton of lizards over here too. One is named Steve lol that's what my kids call him.

Suppose to get to 103 today & tomorrow and stay pretty warm all week. I heard a cool down (in the 80s) by next week. I always consider September a summer month (unlike MI when it started cooling down).

Walked nine holes this morning and it was Hot.

A few degrees in the water is very noticable to the body.

Last year, my last swim was October 3rd and it was 68* degrees.

Just finised with a Dip in the Pool.

Only a few more days left before its closed for the season.

You could drink for several hours, take a dip in that and come out fresh as a Daisy.

41 degrees right now in northern Jersey. I got the blow dryer out and had to blow dry my toes for a while because I'm downstairs freezing. My Aunt has the heat on too high ustairs, it is like a sauna up there so I would rather be down here.

Hi TIS. My Grandma's sister, who's 94 got sick. So I was going in to visit her. Turns out the radiation to fight off her colon cancer made her too ill to see me. So sad, she just wants to die. My Godfather was asking to see me too so I decided to still go in to see him. Also, my friends had a few days off to take me around NY so I went to see them too. Plus my kids are tied to me at the hip most of the time so I needed a break from them, some R & R for myself. All of my family is back there, so my Aunt had some of the family over so I could visit and catch up. I didn't even get to go visit my Mom's side, ran out of time. And the cold never bothers me, it's the heat that makes me cranky. I used to go visit my grandparents in January on my school break. Now that's cold. Brrrr.

It was 64 on Monday so my toes warmed up nicely I put the blow dryer away and took a walk. Beautiful autumn day.

A-Girl, I'm sorry about your grandmother. I didn't even think it could be an emergency type visit. My prayers to her.

I know I talked to my brothers in MI yesterday and they said it was pretty nice (60s) but expected rain in the next couple days.

When I visit, unless it's an emergency visit, I'll always plan to go anywhere between April and October. I simply can't take the cold. LOL I have my brother heat up the car til it's toasty before we go anywhere. Ha ha They laugh at me but I don't care.

No worries TIS. My Grandma passed away back in 2007 at 94. This is her sister, my Aunt who will be 94 next week. In a way, I'm glad I didn't see her this trip so I can remember her as a strong healthy woman when I saw her two years ago.

I think El Niño may give the east coast a break this year. Maybe they will end up having a very mild winter while we here in CA get beat up with storms.

You are in the right state for nice warm weather that's for sure. CA is great. I can imagine how awful it must be for you in that cold winter weather in MI!

Dont have one of those Snow shuvels Gets but it looks like I would rather ride in it than push that fuca.

I like a light snow shovel for the little stuff and my blower for the bigger dumps.

When the blower comes out ya still need a shovel to get around the area's it cant, so I like a light small shovel for that.

Nice photos AG and agree with you on the ugliness of the brown grass. Here is Westminster so many beautiful lawns have turned brown, including ours. I'm surprised that the state isn't giving out tax breaks for artificial lawns. A couple of neighbors have them and they look better than the dirt-look. As to what TIS said, we are supposed to get an El Nino, but they say it may not help much with the drought. People forget that much of California is basically a desert.

Faithful1 I heard that it may be as bad as 1997, remember all the mudslides in Malibu and the piers getting hit hard along the coast? Those storms did a lot of damage. We are planning to replace most of our front lawn with native plants. The brown lawns I will never get used to, such an eyesore.

TIS an electric blanket already? I'm just kidding. At night it does get cold. My little doggie is my portable heater. He sleeps on my feet under the covers, drives me crazy. But one thing I have to say is he keeps me nice and warm.

TIS, that same "Godzilla" El Nino that's inundating you is slopping over here in the AZ High Desert. We've had three days of on-and-off snow. At this altitude (5,300 feet) it can snow (and accumulate) when the temp is almost 40. The saving grace is that it melts quickly when the sun comes out, and the main roads get clear even if they're not plowed, just by traffic.

This morning I awoke to another 4" of snow. Luckily, three guys in a truck happened to be passing by and offered to clear my driveway and turnaround for $50. Well worth it at my age.

it's my own fault. had i gone outside and shoveled/snow blowed every few hours during the storm i would have been in the clear.

i outsmarted myself by waiting until it all ended.

It snowed here all in one day. I am to old and smart enough to try and do it myself. A few of the guys I use came after with snow blower and shovels. Did it all in an hour.

I went out three times,
Sat morn at 11:00am about 10 inches
Sat night at 7pm about another 8-10 inches.
Sun morn at 9am about 4-6 inches.

That was some storm.

Weather has been springlike here in the High Desert. Daily highs near or above 70, usually 54.

It was funny to see the local station post 0 degrees.

Since then it up to 7 degrees but the real nasty thing was the wind the last two days. Wind calmer now and the week ahead is lookin much better.

I wished it would pour here. We are in an "extreme drought" now, haven't had rain for like almost 70 days now and I'm not exaggerating. They are expecting bad weather in the South tomorrow and today but I'm hoping it hits here because we need the rain bad. Creeks are dry, lakes are pretty much dried up, and rivers are way down. People are deer hunting here with kiddie pools filled up with water, and that ain't no joke! This is the longest we have ever went without rain in the history of record keeping in the weather offices.

Hi TIS. Me too. I really enjoy the rain for a change. We started turning the heat on now at night. It finally feels like autumn. This morning on the trail people were wearing heavy coats, beanies and gloves lol It was only about 50 degrees out.

Snowed up here in the High Desert last night and today. We're at 5600 ft. and temp didn't get below freezing, so it melted. At this altitude, we can get snow when the temp. is as high as 42.

We finally got rain but got the tornadoes too. Currently under a tornado watch until 10am. Monday we lost power in the first round of severe storms and was out 23 hours. I guess it's kinda ironic my power was out.

Now waiting on round 2 but luckily it doesn't look as bad. Last night was rough North of us though. 3 dead early on and heard a 24 hour daycare was hit with 4 kids in critical condition. Lots of damage in North Bama.

Police say Tuesday's brutal winter storm claimed the lives of two New Yorkers as they tried to clear snow in front of their homes.

One of the victims, a 47-year-old man, died after suffering a heart attack while shoveling snow outside his Staten Island home as the wind-fueled nor'easter dumped more than a foot of snow on parts of the tri-state area.



Police received a 911 call around 12:30 p.m., authorities said. Paramedics were at the home on Stobe Avenue in Dongan Hills within five minutes and found the man going into cardiac arrest, officials said.

He was taken to a hospital, where he died several hours later.

A 38-year-old man also died Tuesday afternoon after he fell ill while trying to clear snow in front of his home in Wallkill.

Police said Anthony Cantela was snowblowing during the storm when he began to feel unwell and suffer chest pains. He went inside and told his family he was feeling under the weather, then took a shower and went to relax in his bedroom, authorities said.


Officials say Cantela is also believed to have had a heart attack.

We had so much rain that all I see now are BUGS, mosquitos, all types of insects. This is pretty unusual for us. At night we can sit outside with minimal to no bugs. But this year it looks pretty bad. Has anyone who lives in Cali noticed this? I kill at least two mosquitos a day compared to maybe one every couple of weeks.

Tomorrow we have a chance at "long term, large and violent tornadoes" and up to "baseball sized hail" with various super cell thunderstorms which will produce the big boys. Many people have no idea that Alabama leads the nation in EF5 tornadoes, tied with either Kansas or Oklahoma I forget which.

But I hate days like tomorrow, you never know when it's your turn to get the bad shit. At least with a big line along the front you know when to hide but when these super cells pop up and drop a tornado in less than a hour it makes it hard to get to safety quick.

Well we got lucky and only had like 1 or 2 tornado warnings, but hail beat the living shit out of us last night. Just 10 miles up the road we had baseball sized hail, and no I'm not exaggerating. One of my mother's close friends lost 2 different windshields in it and a co-worker will be replacing a brand new Explorer hood and probably the roof too.

Glad everyone stayed safe. Too bad about all that damage to the vehicles. Wow! That was some hail storm.

My guys that removes the snow was not available yesterday. So I had to find other guys. Can’t find people to do it here near the water. I am in fairly good shape, but it to much area for someone my age to do by himself.

That was good. They told us there in the area and I got a price settled before they came they gave me the price I loved that I actually saved money. They came within 30 minutes after my wife made contact with them.
