But seriously, it'll never happen. I don't care what they're writing in the newspapers. The South Bronx is still the poorest zip code in the entire nation. To displace those people would be more than reckless, it would be criminal. And the incoming Mayor (DiBlasio) isn't exactly real estate friendly. You can look for him to stem the tide of hipsterism (yes, in Brooklyn, too) in favor of lower to mid-income housing developments.

Besides, I hear the hipsters are moving back to the midwest anyway. Chicago sounds nice .

Well that's good to hear. The hipsterization of American cities depresses the hell out of me. My home city of Columbus has been pretty much ruined by it.

Haven't run into it yet here in Chicago fortunately. I saw one guy who had the beard/glasses/wool cap thing going on, but other than that around this part of town at least it seems to be mostly real people, thank god.

haha yeah i hear ya, i hate to see a place like Hoboken which used to be home to alot of italians just get taken over. fortunately its not widespread all over Hudson County, yet. im in Bayonne, and i wouldnt be able to put up with it there, but unfortunately i think its just a matter of time. I see it when ever i have to work in Williamsburg Brooklyn and its just for lack of a better term an epidemic there, i gotta hand it to the jews for holding on to their part of the town.

Go Bears!

Still in New York until the second week of January. Then it's Fly me to the Moon, South Florida style. And I say this every year, but barring anything unforseen, we won't be back until Easter week.

We got about two inches in the Bronx this morning. Nothing compared to the bitter cold I saw on the Bears game last night .

I hear that the Gatorade was freezing on the sidelines so the Bears trainers were supplying the players with hot chicken broth. It is suppose to be a great source of electrolytes as well. true story.

South Bronx gentrified? Wouldn't surprise me, given NYC real estate madness. Pretty soon, they'll gentrify the housing projects: $4k/month for a junior-four in the Brownsville Houses, plus a discounted life insurance policy.

PB: I hear that the CEO of Publix is going to greet you when you land in Miami, and present you with a rotisserie chicken.

Only thing I dislike about this town, but I'm getting used to it.

The trick to surviving, at least for me, seems to be wearing a thick windbreaker over your shirt/sweater and under your coat. That takes the edge off it at least. Of course I end up looking like I'm about to go explore Antarctica, but then again in a way I kind of am.

You know I'm actually kind of surprised the hipsters haven't ruined Chicago yet. It's so close to their breeding grounds like Ohio, Wisconsin, and Indiana, you'd think it would be a very tempting place for them.

Theory: The high murder rate here scares them away, maybe? More than once I had some yuppie/hipster person back home tell me "Chicago is dangerous, you should move to Brooklyn! They have really cleaned up New York!" when they found out I was relocating to Chicago.

Chicago isn't dangerous. As long as your not in Englewood, Garfield Park, Humboldt Park, Austin, ect. It's not like the thugs are shooting each other up and down Michigan avenue.

You know me too well, TB. I do loves me some chicken from Publix . But we usually fly into Palm Beach International. And even it it wasn't much more convenient for us, I'd still prefer it over Miami International. That place is CRAZY!!

But if I do end up down that way, I'll be sure to pick up a bottle of wine with my chicken at the Publix in Surfside. A good friend of mine from the West Coast (by way of Brownsville and Jersey) told me all about it .

I haven't eaten any restaurant fried chicken in over 10 years. In fact, except for the taking the grandkids out when they were younger, I haven't eaten at any fast food places in quite a while.
