Jail breaks and prison camp escapes - 09/16/12 08:35 PM

Does anybody know a good book about escapes from jails and prison camps in the 20th century? Non-fiction.
If possible, international escapes. I know there are books about single escapes, but I'm interested in something more systematic.

You can buy "Captivity, Flight and Survival in World War II" by Alan J. Levine for $124.00 on amazon.com. I looked at used book prices on abe.com but it's the same.

The HOT HOUSE by Peter Earley details more than one real life escape in that book. good read either way

As I said, I'm not interested in single descriptions but in more systematic approaches.

Thank you! I bought it. It took some time to get it and two hours at the customs.
Good book.

How's the legal situation in the U.S. about it? Is it per se illegal to escape from prison or only if other illegal activities (like stealing clothes, injuring officers, etc.) are involved?

Unbroken is a great POW story! It's not a break out story. Great prison story regardless
