Texas Governor Talks Secession - 04/16/09 02:03 PM

Good Riddance. They take more federal money than they pay, and
there are more a**sholes in Texas per square mile than anywhere else. Oh yeah, and when they leave the US we'll pull out the border patrol, the military and all federal agencies.
We'll see how they like the Mexican invasion.

Let's not point the finger at all Texans, but clearly some of these assholes deserve each other. This asshole Chuck Norris for instance. He really believes he's Walker Texas Ranger.

From CNN News:

Should Texas one day secede, one man may already be vying to be its president. Actor Chuck Norris said last month he may be interested in the post.

“I may run for president of Texas,” Norris wrote in a column posted at WorldNetDaily. “That need may be a reality sooner than we think. If not me, someone someday may again be running for president of the Lone Star state, if the state of the union continues to turn into the enemy of the state.”

Oh fuck Texas, let them leave. They never were truely part of the South, so they can secede for all I care.

But before they leave, Mr. Perry, can the rest of us Americans get our billions of Stimulus and other Federal bucks refunded?

Maybe Dubya can help draft their new constitution. I'm sure the residents won't mind if it's in crayon.

Okay, these states talk about Secession. Do I understand that to be detached from the U.S. and become their own country? Ha ha ha kind of drastic isn't it? lol They can't really do that can they? (not that I think they will, even if they could mind you. I think it's all BS personally). Why do are going to such silly extremes???

Texas v. White , 1869. Chief Justice Chase, writing
for the court in its 1869 decision, said:

"The Constitution, in all its provisions, looks to an indestructible Union, composed of indestructible States. ... Considered, therefore, as transactions under the Constitution, the Ordinance of Secession, adopted by the convention and ratified by a majority of the citizens of Texas, and all the Acts of her Legislature intended to give effect to that ordinance, were absolutely null. They were utterly without operation in law. ... Our conclusion, therefore, is, that Texas continued to be a State, and a State of the Union, notwithstanding the transactions to which we have referred."

Also, the Constitution's Article IV, Section 4 requires that the federal government guarantee to each state a republican form of government, something it can't do if a state is not part of the Union.

I believe this issue was settled in the Civil War. But if Texas and Georgia were to go it Alone they could have George Bush and Jimmy Carter as their presidents.

Re: Texas Governor Talks Secession - 04/17/09 04:37 PM

Fine, let them go, then the collective IQ of the US would rise considerably. I would want to keep Austin though.

Secession would take a significant number of years for Texans to sort out by vote and then by guns even without Federal intervention. This "secession threat" is just stupid political pandering talk by stupid people. Unfortunately, the stupid runs up to the top.

FOREIGN POLICY Magazine write a column, on if Texas actually did try to go independent:

http://blog.foreignpolicy.com/posts/2009/04/16/foreign_relations_with_texas_if_it_secedes

My favorite analysis?

"It would be the world's thirteenth largest economy -- bigger than South Korea, Sweden, and Saudi Arabia. But its worth would crater precipitously, after NAFTA rejected it and the United States slapped it with an embargo that would make Cuba look like a free-trade zone. Indeed, Texas would quick become the next North Korea, relying on foreign aid due to its insistence on relying on itself.

...

...the state of Texas would rapidly become direly impoverished, would need to be heavily armed, and would be wracked with existential domestic and foreign policy threats. It would probably make our failed states list in short order. Probably better to pay the damn taxes."

Remember Lou Gossett's line in "Officer and a Gentleman"? "Only two things come from Texas boy, steers and queers, and don't see no horns on you."
