Britney at it again - 01/04/08 02:22 PM

LOS ANGELES, California (CNN) -- Pop star Britney Spears was taken to hospital for tests to see if she was under the influence of alcohol or drugs and for a psychological evaluation after police were called to her home Thursday night to mediate a custody dispute, a police spokesman said.

Spears appeared not be conscious as she was taken from her home.

Spears appeared not to be conscious as she was rolled out of her Studio City home on a gurney about three hours after police and ambulances arrived there.

The children were returned to their father, Kevin Federline, who has primary legal custody of the two sons, a police spokesman said.

Doctors at Cedars Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles will decide whether to invoke a California law that allows a patient to be held for psychological evaluation for 72 hours, the police spokesman said.

Aerial video provided by local television station helicopters showed Spears on a stretcher and surrounded by police and paramedics as it was rolled to an ambulance near her home.

I'm beginning to think that those who picked Spears on their Dead Pool lists made a wise choice. \:\/

I really was feeling the Britney-hate, but I honestly feel so sad for her right now. She (and her sister) are so obviously screwed up that it's quite pathetic.

I also try to keep in mind how we would appear to others if we had to live our lives under a microscope.

I have read that Nikelodean have cancelled the younger spears show as it is aimed at under 14's and it isnt setting a very good example

It's really even more pathetic when you think that of the two a "Kevin Federline" is the better parent.

Really, those poor kids...and they are so cute. I hope she does get help.

Re: Britney at it again - 01/04/08 07:24 PM

She needs time and space to grow up, and fewer people in her life. I haven't followed her predicaments too closely, but for her sake and the sake of her family, I hope she gets things worked out. Oh, and the Lohan girl too.

Re: Britney at it again - 01/04/08 09:05 PM

You know what's scary? I'm thinking about how she doesn't "seem" to care that she doesn't have her kids, and how she simply doesn't appear to court dates (several times now) regarding custody, etc. It doesn't seem "normal" that she wouldn't care, if only for the bad publicity sake or how it would look to the public. I read her lawyer (her second one) recently quit because of what he called "lack of communication." I also read (if true or not I don't know) that she spends all her money and has no savings/investments to speak of. \:\/ Of course, I guess a lot of people can have that trait.

Her complete and utter defiance and nonchalance, makes me really wonder if it's more a mental problem than a drug problem. \:\( It seems a complete absence of any motherly inclinations that's missing from Britney. I can't believe she is normally "void" of that, as twisted as her life has become. Anyway I really do hope she gets help. \:\(

A mishap, an OD... God, whatever the hell it's called when the average guy on the street does it.

It just seems to me, that in the time it takes to simply address the issue at hand vocally, hundreds of thousands of people are dying simultaneously, be it of disease, war, or whatever. There's a war being fought, the Bush administration is fucking us all in the ass, and people are contracting AIDS. There are millions of issues more important than this one.

No offense directed at you people, of course.

Re: Britney at it again - 01/31/08 03:14 AM

The only reason I bring this thread up is because I think that the media is not only driving this story to the ground, but probably participating in driving an already unstable Britney even further into the cuckoo's nest. It's really sad.

I have a long drive to work in the morning and listen to a L.A. radio station who always has celebrity "news", which later we see on E or Access Hollywood. The other night evidently Britney was out in her own driveway crying and the cameras are right in her face asking her "what's wrong" and putting microphones in her face. I don't get why nobody kicked them out. She was on her on curb in her own driveway.

Anyone see this new papparazzi boyfriend of hers? Man, the guy is using her and she's going right along. He's appeared on several tv shows telling everyone about how she is upset cause she wants her kids back. He's a real loser if you ask me.

Another thing that makes me wonder if she is playing with a full deck, every now and then she'll talk with an English accent. What's up with that?

Seriously, I think this girl needs bigtime help and I don't think the media is helping. They're pissing me off.

(Gee, do I sound like that he/she guy "Leave Britney Alone.")

Word has it she was taken by ambulance last night to UCLA for another mental evaluation. They say she hasn't slept since Saturday.

It's not a joke anymore I think. It's really sad. Her boys need a mother. I hope she gets well.

Re: Britney at it again - 01/31/08 12:51 PM

Britney Spears was hospitalized at UCLA Medical Center for a psychiatric hold early Thursday morning, after being transported by ambulance from her Studio City home around 1 a.m.

An LAPD source tells PEOPLE: "Spears was escorted by police and is on her way to get help."

The singer, 26, was transported to UCLA for treatment and evaluation during a 72-hour emergency hold, known as a 5150.

Police or a mental health professional can request one if a person is deemed to be a danger to him and herself or others. (Spears was held at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center on such an order earlier this month, following her Jan. 3 custody standoff with police.)

Spears's mother, Lynne – who's in the midst of a tense reunion with her daughter – friend Alli Sims and confidant Sam Lutfi were all inside the gated mansion when police and the fire department arrived.

What brought on the hospitalization? "She was driving around her neighborhood like a mad-woman," says a Spears family source. "Britney has been prescribed medication which she refuses to take. This is just another sad, sad evening."

Lutfi and Spears's father, Jamie, arrived at the hospital shortly after the singer. Her mother was later spotted leaving the Summit home with Spears's photographer beau, Adnan Ghalib, in the backseat.

Earlier in the night, Internet rumors claimed that the singer had attempted suicide, but Lutfi and Sims both denied those claims to PEOPLE.

Since the January standoff, Spears has been stripped of visitation rights for her two sons Preston, 2, and Jayden, 1. Two sources have said she suffers from a psychological disease, with one source saying, "there is no question she is bipolar... she's had manic episodes for years."

As last night's incident unfolded, a Spears source told PEOPLE simply, "Pray, please."

Re: Britney at it again - 01/31/08 04:01 PM

Britney's family seized a window of opportunity in an attempt to save her life, a source tells Access Hollywood exclusively.

The source, which was called by Lynne Spears in the middle of Britney's hospitalization early this morning, told Access there was a window of opportunity to get Britney help, and the family took it. Aso, the source says that the family was in contact with Britney's psychiatrist and other doctor's involved in her treatment.

The source, who is very close to Lynne Spears, adds that the family is fully aware of the severity of Britney's problems and that the hospital plans to keep her.

Britney's return to the hospital has given Lynne a small respite of relief, according to the source.

Lynne believes the UCLA Medical Center will be able to give Britney the help she needs, the source tells Access. Previously, Lynne was fearful Britney's psychiatric issues would lead to her death, leaving Sean Preston and Jayden James without a mother.

Why does Lynne Spears keep calling the tabloids with updates?

What kind of mother is she? You know she's getting paid for it.

Re: Britney at it again - 01/31/08 09:51 PM

Well...seeing as she (alledgedly) sold her youngest daughter out to OK! Magazine for a million bucks, I think that tells you the type of mother she is.

She'd sell her soul to Satan if the price was right.

Re: Britney at it again - 02/01/08 12:28 AM

Her story has become pathetic, and terribly sad. She is very ill person with enablers all around her. Her family has said that a doctor once told her that she is bipolar. People who are bipolar often (when manic) believe that everything is fine and that others are trying to "get them" by saying they need help. I sincerely hope this intervention holds a mirror up in front of her and forces her to admit that she needs help. Otherwise it is a waste of time (from my experience with others in this situation).

She's still a person. Being a media magnet doesn't give you super powers to overcome this stuff. Probably exacerbates it.

I don't really understand the emotional impetus (mine and others) that drives the fascination and schadenfreude of people into really loving seeing beautiful, famous people destroy themselves. The press is just responding to the market. The news is like pornography.

Well, I'm with DC on this one. I originally felt very contemptuous of her situation. I thought that she was behaving like a spoiled brat, but I now believe that there are more serious issues at play. I feel she really has broken completely with reality.

Re: Britney at it again - 02/04/08 05:44 PM

I was disgusted with her when I just thought she was a partying drunk/coke addict. It's a completely different story when you're dealing with mental illness. Would you make fun of someone with down's syndrom?

Now if she's being a diva and not taking medication that could help her, and that's keeping her from her kids, then I won't pity her.
