Do you speak spanish?

I am just curious...

I just want to know how many people in this forum can say something in spanish and how many of you can keep a conversation...
I wanted to ask you long time ago, but I always forget it.

Sorry. I know some words and phrases, but can't really converse.

I do alright. 5 years of public school spanish, but I tell ya, I learned more in 6 months of talking to the mexican dishwashers at my job than I ever learned in a classroom.

I never studied Spanish but can understand/talk a lot. I love this language and would like very much to study it. I used to talk with our former maid, she was from Argentina. Our current maid is from Ukraine. Of course we exclusively talk in Italian...

I know words, phrases, etc., but I would stop short of calling myself truly "conversational". Most of what I learned came from watching Spanish-language television many years ago.

I had studied French in school when I was much younger - in grades 5,7, 8 and 9. I think this made it easier to see the similarities in certain words common to both languages (and also, to some extent, in Italian). But, it was a long time ago.

Those were the days when Siempre en Domingo, Lucha Libre, Manuel "Loco" Valdez and - especially - Olga Breeskin and Iris Chacon reigned supreme (ahh...memories!).

I understand Spanish much better than I can speak it. A lot of what I know, I've learned from my girlfriend.

She never taught me how to curse in Spanish, though. I had to learn that on my own.
