Lucy's Hotel Points

Lucy's Hotel Points - 10/21/10 03:24 PM

It's very unrealistic that Michael would have put "five to ten" points of the hotel/casino in Lucy's name. She was nothing but Sonny's slutty "gumadde." Why would a businessman as sharp as Michael trust her to wash that kind of money?

Unless, Vincent Mancini's character wasn't manufactured for "Godfather III" after all. Let's say she had the kid out of wedlock, the Corleones kept it hush-hush, then set her up in Vegas and gave her hotel points to insure Vincent's future.

Then it might make sense.

I think that's right, PB. I can see Vito (maybe Michael) "doing the right thing" by Sonny's goumad (although Vito clearly didn't approve of the relationship). But multiple points would be handed out only to someone who'd do something evem more profitable in return--like Johnny, in return for bringing his Hollywood pals to perform in the casinos.

It's been a while since I read that portion but I seem to remember that Lucy was just a front owner, yes?

Tom told her they were going to use her name but that if anyone asked any questions just refer her to him.

So I'm sure she got a nice living but I don't really think she had actual ownership.

The novel (as almost always) makes it clear. As Tom told Lucy, Vito felt that Sonny took advantage of Lucy. Also, Sonny had made provisions for her (but left no estate for his wife and kids).

Also, Lilo is correct. There really wasn't any trust factor involved. She couldn't compromise the Corleones.

The novel also says that when Hagen asked Lucy if she was pregnant she said no. But maybe she lied, who knows. smile

Of course she could. Isn't hidden ownership illegal?

Her ownership was not hidden.

No, but the Corleones' ownership was. Say she puts casino proceeds in her name, then turns them over to the Corleones. Isn't that illegal? I know a guy who fronted a liquor license for some wiseguys once, and he was eventually tried and convicted for illegally procuring a license. He got in more trouble than they did.

PB, the points were intended to provide a source for the $600 per month that she received through Tom. It was all done legally and the points were in the hotel only.

The reason why Lucy got any "Points" was because of Don Corleone. Remember The Don knew about Sonny messing around with Lucy which he didn't approve of at all. When Lucy tried to kill herself after Sonny's Death, Tom Hagen on orders of The Don decided to take care of her as well as Sandra and his Grandchildren.

I believe that he did it more out of guilt because he felt that Sonny had no right to be messing aroung with Lucy in the first place and to try to kill one's self was to him a major sin.

I also believe that The Don felt that not only was Sonny a bad Don, but a bad Husband as well.

As the novel states, Sonny had made financial provisions for her. Her points were part of the effort of the Corleones to launder some of their casino revenue. The novel also states that Lucy had no objection to how she was being used in this way.
