Gina and her mother - How?

How and when do you think Gina and her mother came to America?

Is it not very coincidental to find them in America and in the same town where tony was.

A LOT of Cubans came to Miami, I don't find it that coincidental.

It's like saying Italians in New York......

Italy's across the Atlantic. Cuban isn't nearly as far.

I don't recall if the book covers the time when Gina and her mom left Cuba for Miami, but I do remember a part in the book when Tony first arrives in Miami and is locked up in freedom town, he calls his mother from a payphone and when she picks up the phone asking who it is, he says something like go back to sleep mama and hangs up. So obviously Gina and Mama had been in Miami for quite some time and somehow Tony had thier Miami phone number on the back of Gina's picture. I believe that it was something like five years that Tony had not seen Mama and Gina, so somewhere within that time frame Mama and Gina left Cuba and settled in Miami.
