Did Pacino actually took cocaine?

In the special edition of scarface Al Pacino refused to say whether he did or did not actually took cocaine when filming the scene after he killed manny.

He left to the viewers imagination in his interview.

So as a viewer what do you think?

i think somebody on the DVD said that it was dried baby's milk, but i'm not sure....

I would seriously doubt Pacino snorted the real stuff while shooting the movie.

First of all, there's the incredible risk to his health inhaling that much at once, and who knows how many takes other than what appears in the final cut???

Second...Al Pacino is a professional. He is and was at the time of Scarface focused on his craft. It is EXTREMELY unlikely and out of character for Pacino to have used the real thing while doing his job, that of an ACTOR playing a ROLE.

The reason for his 'evasiveness' was that it was pretty much what any actor would do...to try & keep the illusion, the sense of realism for fans of the film. I think it would diminish the entertainment for 'some' to hear Al admit that it was 'baby's milk' or whatever, that they were watching the character devour up his nose.

He wasn't refusing to tell if he snorted COCAINE, he was refusing to tell what they USED for it. It was not dried milk as they stated so who knows.

Yes DV, you are correct. But I highly doubt that real cocaine was used to shoot that scene. Do you realize HOW MUCH cocaine was there? First of all it would be an astronomical cost to the studio to really use that much coke for the scene. Secondly for all the takes and re-takes, do you realize how much is blown off the table during the shootings? How many times they would have to replenish what may get blown off the desk, etc.? But now I am really curious as to what was actually used for that scene. WIll have to do some searching.

Good luck Don Cardi, I doubt us "common folk" will ever know. Aside from a mountain of coke costing 5 mountians of $$$$, dont you think someone(read law enforcement) would have some objections to huge piles of illict substances laying around?

I don't follow you. I said in my post that I highly doubt that real stuff was used for alomost the same reasons that you have pointed out. When I said that I wanted to search and find out what really was used, I am saying that I don't believe that it was real coke and want to find out what PROP was used. Us common folk can find out if we search hard enough.

I never said they did use it. Dried milk was irritating to the actors as it would get stuck in their nose, etc. Hell, if could have been Pixie Stix for all we know.

Fuckin' A, they should have used orange or blue raspberry instead of plain white.

In many other films featuring cocaine use, vitamin B12 was used. This is probably the case with Scarface as well. Crushed B12 has the right look and substance, and is harmless if ingested, even through the nose. If anything, snorting this would be beneficial to the body. Anyway, that's my guess...

i wouldnt have thought that he would take cocaine as pacino is such a professional.it would be sad to think he has use it as he is such a professional

Sorry, the way I wrote that post was somewhat confusing. I ment that I dont believe anyone on the production ever told anyone what was actually used.
I should have gone to the next line to state my reasons why I dont think it was actual coke.
Hell, for all we know it could be flour. The stuff in Goodfellas looks like flour.

Al Pacino did use cocaine before but not in scarface
they had pics of him use it in the 70's in that
famous culb sudio 54 or something.

There's pics of me in clubs too, doesnt mean I'm snorting lines. But I think somewhere he said he was too strung out to go up and accept if he would have won for Serpico. I dont believe anything I read (or see) about anyone though, enless they say it themselves.

I don't know about Pacino riding the rails during the shoot, but I would bet money that Mr. Oliver Stone bowed down PLENTY of times to a glass coffee table while he was writing it. He admitted on the 2nd disc of the DVD that he was using and had to quit to write the screenplay cause his mind was mush. I think he quit after it was done. I know I couldn't sit and write about mountains of blow without wanting a toot every now and then. In the Directors Cut of Natural Born Killers, the whole production staff admitted to eating mushrooms and losing it in the desert. He's up for anything.

The bags of cocaine on the table, they can't be real but what pacino inhaled could have been cocaine. The director said it took weeks to do the last scene, it was probably due to the fact that pacino got sick after taking cocaine not burnt.
