It is the only movie in which I've ever actually been shocked by. It's the only film to ever make my jaw literally drop. I found myself very involved in the viewing of this film. I think it is the best movie of the decade.

The last half hour or so was brilliant.

Yes. I totally agree. Have you seen Pi yet?

The book will probably be the next I read, once I am finished with the two current books I am working on.

No. I just checked imdb about it, seems interesting. [/b][/quote]It's not as good as Requiem, but very interesting, especially if you enjoyed Aronofsky's directorial choices on Requiem.

I'm also excited about his new film he is working on. The premise sounds interesting, to say the least. There were also rumors a few years back about him adapting Chuck Palahniuk's novel Choke, a book I absolutely adore, into a feature-length film, which is something I'd of loved to see. But I think he dropped that project a while back.

well I loved Requiem For A Dream too! I watched it for the first time last week and I can only agree that it is the most shocking and disturbing film I've ever seen. definitely one of the best of 00's. now, I'm even more shocked that most of you do not include City of God in your lists. in my opinion it is among the top 3 from the 00's. maybe because I'm brazilian and for me the movie is even more realistic. in fact, I rented the DVD last night just to watch an audio commented version of the film by director Fernando Meirelles, screenplay writter Braulio Mantovani and director of cinematography Cesar Charlone (all nominated to the Academy Awards) that is awesome! I recommend every fan of this film to watch it. for anyone who watched and actually remembers the film, is like watching it again, with the director explaining every detail.

Re: 10 Best Films of the 00's (so far) - 01/29/06 12:51 AM

I love Requiem's editing; a rapid, rhythmic, almost addictive conjuring of hallucinatory drug effects. Other than that, I much prefer Pi, which sticks with a protagonist I adapt to (Requiem is full of junkies I don't care for), a pulsating soundtrack, and lovely, black-and-white cinematography. There's a split second I remember vividly, where Max stars at a mirror, then begins to drill a hole into his own skull. We cut away, but the sound resonates still, and it's been a year since I saw it.

Sort of sporatic, a few huge blockbusters and a few small movies. Most of my favorite movies from this decade have been character studies, or just plain violent movies (next would probably be Punch Drunk Love and the Kill Bills)

1. Lost in Translation (2003/S.Coppola)
2. Sideways (2004/Payne)
3. Traffic (2000/Soderbergh)
4. Collateral (2004/Mann)
5. Match Point (2005/Allen)
6. Batman Begins (2005/Nolan)
7. Elephant (2003/Van Sant)
8. City of God (2002/Mierelles)
9. Road to Perdition (2002/Mendes)
10. Sin City (2005/Rodriguex)

02. Spirited Away (2001/Miyazaki)
03. Almost Famous (2000/Crowe)
04. A Beautiful Mind (2001/Howard)
05. Bridget Jones's Diary (2001/Maguire)
06. Meet the Parents (2000/Roach)
07. Gladiator (2000/Scott)
08. You Can Count on Me (2000/Lonergan)
09. The Pianist (2002/Polanski)

Bleh. Haven't seen many good movies lately - the last one I saw was Fun with Dick and Jane and it wasn't that great...
