The Untouchables made you cry? Well, I could see that considering how terrible it is. I damn near cried myself hearing all those corny lines.

Re: Movies that brought you to tears - 12/12/05 11:17 AM

Brian's Song -- Gayle Sayers' speech when he wins the George Halas award. The whole "heart of a giant and that rare form of courage" speech gets me every time. But I always get teary eyed when he says, "I love Brian Piccolo. And I'd like all of you to love him too. And tonight, when you hit your knees, please ask God to love him."

Only one time, but I can't remember what movie it was.

And I sometimes get emotional, then I get shaking eyelids, but I never actually cry when watching a movie.

Re: Movies that brought you to tears - 12/12/05 02:44 PM

First, let me tell you that I absolutely ADORE crying when watching a movie! I don't know why, but the more I cry the more I like the movie! Actually I think crying is very theurapetical! That being said, I obviously have a veeeery long tearful list... and I'm going to mention only some titles as they come to mind.

Schindler's list
The pianist
Titanic
Shadowsland
Dying young
Ghost
Umberto D.
Steel Magnolias
City of Angels
What dreams may come
E.T.
A.I.
Love Is a Many-Splendored Thing
Lassie movies
Captain Courageous
Life is Beautiful
Waterloo Bridge

to be continued....

Re: Movies that brought you to tears - 12/12/05 02:49 PM

Since I am probably the most easily manipulated person in a movie theater, the list is very, very long. However, I will name some of the top ones:

SPOILER ALERT

Backdraft (Whose your brother Brian? You are, Steven)
Without a Trace (that drive home with the little boy and Judd Hirsch gets me every time)
Brian's Song, for the very speech named above
The Untouchables, during the scene mentioned above (What are you prepared to do?)
My Girl, during the wake, when the little girl wants to know why he isn't wearing his glasses

I could go on and on, but I'm the woman who has cried during many an Oprah episode, so that will give you a hint as to how easily I drop those tears. My mother calls me something in Italian, which I don't know how to spell, but it translates to "pissy eyes".

- E.T.
- The Green Mile
- Blow
- Leaving Las Vegas

Re: Movies that brought you to tears - 12/12/05 03:45 PM

Oh yes, Brian's Song. How could I forget to list that one! Billy Dee just breaks me up, especially when he says " I love Brian Piccolo." ( getting choked up as I type this). The theme itself can make you cry.

Perhaps, "Schindlder's List" would be the film I get most sdened by. Schindler's breakdown just before he must depart from his Jews... That gets to me. That's powerful acting and perfect use of an orchestral score.

Other films that get to me; "It's A WOnderful Life" when George Bailey runs through Bedford Falls embracing life again. It's just so good.

Re: Movies that brought you to tears - 12/12/05 07:54 PM

There have been a few movies that brought tears to my eyes. Some I can think of at the moment:

"The Godfather Part 2" (Boat scene and the ending)
"The Godfather Part 3" (The Flashback when Anthony is playing- The ending)
"Schindler's List"
"The Pianist"
"Carlito's Way"
"The Passion of the Christ"

Re: Movies that brought you to tears - 12/13/05 03:14 AM

Not actually "crying" but when tears come to my eyes:
GF3- Anthony singing w/ the flashback
Brian's Song
Field of Dreams
Deer Hunter- When they are loading the coffin in the hearse, just because Cazale was only months from being the one in the casket when they shot that, and the "God Bless America" song

Re: Movies that brought you to tears - 12/13/05 03:59 PM

Enzo, not only you but a hell of a lot more people here also. I'd even say most here are genuine about there feelings but there's definitely guys who also 'sell' that aspect of their personality. It reminds me of Gareth in the British version of the Office. This character, actually a wimp, plays up to his misperception that he's a tough part time Army guy but can be sensitive at the same time:

"People look at me, they say he's tough, he was in the army he's gonna be hard, by the book. But I am caring, and sensitive. Isn't Schindler's List a brilliant film?"

Re: Movies that brought you to tears - 12/17/05 12:35 AM

Curious; at which part did people cry watching Passion of the Christ? I mean, it's pretty horrendous stuff from the start, so it could be possible to cry early on. Would anybody who has cried at the film agree that it is a mindnumbingly tedious film, I wonder?

When Mary remembered her son's childhood while they were taking him for crucifying.

Re: Movies that brought you to tears - 12/17/05 06:28 PM

If I remember correctly, "Passion of the Christ" was such an emotional experience to certain ppl, that one woman actually died in the cinema during the crucifixion scenes, she simply couldnt take it.
Has anyone heard about any other case when someone died out of emotional turbulence while watching a film?

When I was young, I heard a similar "story" for "exorcist" or "evil dead" or some such old horror movie. But I am positive it was an urban legend, rather than a fact

Re: Movies that brought you to tears - 12/19/05 10:31 AM

Not been here a couple of weeks.

I nearly blubbed when Benny was killed in City Of God.

But my worst is, for a reason I have spent many years trying to work out, the end of Repo Man. It's just that bit when the radioactive Chevy Malibu rises into the sky and Miller says: 'Life of a Repo Man is always intense.' and The Plugz tune is starting up and the car zooms off into the starry sky. I don't know if it's because it signals the end of a good film well made or if it's the tying up of a mad story with nods to lines that have gone before... I just don't know. I watched it again recently and was feeling a little bored (I think it has run it's course) and then... that end. Still gets me. I think it's the music. It's so melancholic. Like something has finished and there's no going back.
