Oh, TB, I love Cavalleria Rusticanna. It's so beautiful. The part where Turiddu says goodbye to his mother and begs her to take care of Santa is heart-breakingly beautiful.

As for movies I've watched over and over and can usually quote from:

GF Trilogy
Gone With the Wind
Casablanca
Backdraft
When Harry Met Sally
Shawshank Redemption
Sound of Music
Without a Trace
Princess Bride

As has been said here, I will probably think of more later.

Shawshank, yes, how could I forget that one?

SB, WIhtout A Trace, is that the one with Judd Hirsch, based on the Eaton Patz story?

Yes, it is. The acting is so good. Kate Nelligan is excellent as the mother, and strikes that perfect blend of courage, anger, grief and hope that I would imagine such a person would feel. I always blubber like a baby for the last five or so minutes of the movie, no matter how many times I've watched it.

DITTO! The emotional build up as Judd Hirsh is driving the boy into the city and the scene switching back and forth between Kate Nelligan walking with the goceries and the police escort, is just fantastic. Then that final moment when the car stops and Kate Nelligan has this confused but concerned look on her face and the son gets out......

Re: Rewatch, rewatch and rewatch! - 07/14/05 05:38 PM

-Requiem for a Dream (!!!)
-Reservoir Dogs
-French Connection
-One Hour Photo
-The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly
-Pulp Fiction
-Taxi Driver
-Mean Streets
-Natural Born Killers (I'd say I could go maybe ten watches before the obnoxious cuts make me either throw up or send me into a seizure.)
-American History X
-25th Hour
-Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas
-Dog Day Afternoon
-Goodfellas
-Once Upon a Time in America
-The Godfather Trilogy, obviously
-Magnolia
-Boogie Nights (P.T. Anderson is a god...)

I think it's the sirens that get me, from the police cars saluting him on the ride home. Then, when Alex asks Judd Hirsch if he's being arrested, and Judd Hirsch says, "Aw, honey..." Fuhgeddaboutit!! Pass me the kleenex!!

Re: Rewatch, rewatch and rewatch! - 07/14/05 07:37 PM

Probably in order:

À bout de souffle, The French Connection, Taxi Driver, Gladiator.

The first film I listed is the only film I've watched back-to-back-to-back. That's thrice in a row.

Though I once watched GoldenEye twice in a row and then rewound the VHS and watched it backwards too.

Yeah so listing the movie that I have seen multiple times would take too long and be just a laundry list. I even tried to restrict it to movies I’ve seen 10+ times it was still to long so I’ll put it like this

Early James Cameron (from Piranha to True Lies and especially The Abyss and Terminators)
Early Arnold (From Conan to Eraser –Junior & Raw Deal & Last Action Hero)
John Woo (Hard Boiled, A Better Tomorrow’s & his first three American movies)
QT (not so much the Kill Bills but does include From Dusk to Dawn and True Romance)
Kevin Smith (but not Jersey Girl)
Tony Scott (Last Boyscout, Top Gun, Man on Fire, Crimson Tide, and yes Enemy of the State)
Trilogies (Evil Dead, Original SW, Indiana Jones)
Bay’s “movies” (yes I said it)
Mel Brooks (Robinhood, Spaceballs, Blazing Saddles)
80’s comedies (Breakfast Club, Loverboy, Caddyshacks, …)
The Crow (I watched everyday for a month)
Brotherhood of the Wolf
Wolf
Dracula (FFC)
Office Space
Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas
Hackers
Boondock Saints
Buffy
The Fast and the Furious and the sequel (I don’t know why)
Jennifer 8
Gattaca
Strange Days
Bad Santa
Desperado
In the Line of Fire
Pitch Black
Way of the Gun
Usual Suspects
Snatch

Duh, I forgot Goodfellas and Casino

The Godfather and The Blues Brothers are probably my most watched movies that just absolutely could never get old. My mom gets sick of me watching them, but I don't...

Holy mother of God how could I forget the Blues Brothers and Jaws, and From Russia with Love.

For me, it's the overture and the "Siciliana" ("O Lola"), the Easter Mass and the Intermezzo.
"Cavalleria" and "Pagliacci" are now on a DVD, both splendid productions by Franco Zeffirelli and featuring Placido Domingo. The DVD has DTS sound. Spectacular!

Re: Rewatch, rewatch and rewatch! - 07/15/05 01:36 AM

TB,
I agree with you about the Intermezzo. It is beautiful, and has been used well in many films, most effectively I believe in Raging Bull. Cavalleria/Pagliacci have been the only performances my husband and I have seen together live. He surprised me with tickets to the Met for our anniversary a few years ago. My father loved Italian opera and he used to take me to Lincoln Center fairly often. There is nothing to compare to seeing an opera live. That is one thing I am sorry about - all my trips to Italy, and I've never gone to the opera there.
