Better Joker: Ledger or Phoenix - 01/26/20 08:50 PM
So I've been debating this myself and I honestly have no idea who portrayed a better Joker. I know there have been other iterations such as Cesar Romero, Jack Nicholson, and Jared Leto but I wanted to narrow it down to Ledger and Phoenix because Ledger won an Oscar for his portrayal and Phoenix (fingers crossed) might do the same. So I'm curious for those who have seen JOKER, who did a better job as the Clown Prince of Crime and if you are to provide your reasoning, I'd love to hear that as well. Thanks for everyone who participates!

Phoenix has gotten my vote and not since its the latest and fresh in memory.
Ledger did a fine job but what Joaquin laid down was mind blowing and very effective since we had received close up and raw insight as to how he was ingesting the harsh realities of life.

I find it too hard to choose TBH.
Ledger's portrayal was more firmly engrossed in the Batman mythology, whereas Phoenix's portrayal was more of a standalone thing.

I agree Moe. I'm torn myself. If Phoenix wins the Oscar (which he'd better) it gets even more difficult for me since they both would have won an Oscar for portraying the same character. But, for the purposes of this poll, Ledger got my vote (he just went to such a dark place with this).

You and me both. Surprised this isn't getting more attention.

Thanks Moe, I did see this. If they come to my neck of the woods and depending upon the price, I'd be interested in going.

Same. Now he and Ledger have both won for the Joker character.

some say this movie is really not part of batman cannon. phoenix's joker is much older than ledger's. remember when he first shows up at wayne manner. bruce is very young. by the time bruce becomes batman he would be fighting an old man. the movie is great because we can actually feel for the character. they guy is beaten down time and time again. his uncontrollable laughter is part of his having a terrible head injury. his mother has lied to him and he finds out the sad way he was adopted. she told him thomas wayne is his father. de niro was great in his role.

It was a tough call for me. I posted this same question on Facebook and it was overwhelmingly in favor of Ledger. This is a lot closer (5-5)

I also liked Jack a lot he was most true to the comics.

Very hard to choose, but for the moment I will go with Phoenix, since his performance is fresher in my mind. But Ledger did a remarkable job.
