Rocky Balboa - 05/31/13 11:36 PM

Ok lets discuss everything about my greatest american heroe, Rocky Balboa.

My first question is who is the best challenger for Rocky Balboa?

1-Apollo Creed
2-Clubber Lang
3-Ivan Drago
4-Tommy Gun
5-Mason "The line" Dixon

I say Ivan Drago, he was the one who had the hardest trainning system, he had the most powerful punches which caused critical brain damage to Rocky forcing him to retire.

Despite that, I always enjoy watching Rocky Balboa movies, especially when he is trainning and the song "gonna fly now" is playing. Although its a fictional stroy, I always cheer for Rocky as if he was for real and I suffer when he is punched. its emotional, I love Rocky Balboa. I openly support Stallone to make a Rocky 7 I dont care how many people dont agree. I will always welcome a new Rocky movie... and a Rambo movie of course... But now lets talk about Rocky Balboa.

Hi Don Pappo, tho Drago was a good, I am kind of sentimental toward Apollo. You're right tho about the hardest training system. I love the Rocky theme too. Even still, it's so inspiring. Makes me want to find the highest steps, run to the top and jump up & down. lol

As much as I like the Rocky films, I'm more into the Rambo for some reason. smile

TIS, ever since seeing Rocky I had wanted to run up those steps. Finally, years later I went to a convention in Philly. One morning while there I went jogging and got to do just that: run up those steps. Loved it!

Oli,

When the BB met in Philly a few years ago, I wanted to do just that but never made it. frown So close, yet so far. Maybe next time.

Back to topic....anyone remember the name of Rocky's goldfish?

To Answer the first question, Apollo in a runaway.
No one else touches him.

I thought Rocky Balboa redeemed Rocky V which was one of the worst movies ever made. Tommy Gunn my ass!

Rocky Balboa was the coda to the whole series, and cements the fact that the series was really a ove story about Rocky and Adrian.

One thing though. I thought Rocky's son was Rocky Jr. In Rocky Balboa it is "Robert" what happened did the kid change his name?

I agree with you on Apollo Creed. Rocky was a nickname and the character's birth name is Robert. I remember hearing that the character's birth date for purposes of the movie is the day after Stallone's real birth date.

Rocky and Rocky 3 were my favorites. I loved Apollo and Mr. T. While some of the sequels were entertaining, nothing could touch the first one.

Two of the greatest scenes in the original were because Stallone couldn't afford extras. The skating rink was supposed to be open, and at the end, the crowd was supposed to rush in and carry Rocky out on their shoulders. Instead, Stallone had to rewrite those scenes and I think they're amazing.

Drago was taking state of the art steroids, so he was toughest to overcome. Remember during his training how they kept injecting him with drugs?

The Rocky Franchise is awesome. My favorite of course is Rocky 1. Stallone refused to sell the screenplay unless he could play the part of rocky.

Re: Rocky Balboa - 06/19/13 06:44 PM

Overall I think it was a great franchise. I thought I was the best, II a little lame and predictable, III was a better sequel than II, but what was with all the homophobic stuff betwween Rocky and Apollo?
IV just not believable. Rocky wins the Cold War? Come on! V a disaster, and Balboa a great way to end it.

What is amazing is when you go to Philly a lot of the fans there are true Rocky fans. You have to remind them he is a fictional character!

One thing though. I often wonder if the Rocky franchise helped doom boxing to where it is today. Those fight scenes weere so good that the real thing always looked dull afterwords.
