Fish on Good Friday and lamb on Easter Sunday. Loads of beer on the Saturday!

Eating seafood is hardly a scarifice these days.

Exactly, DT. When the tradition started it was because fish was a poor man's food and the Church considered it a sacrifice to have to eat it on Friday. Today a pound of filet costs more than a pound of sirloin.

Didn't eating meat on fridays used to be a mortal sin? I like George Carlin's take on the change: "I bet there's still some Catholics doing time in hell on a meat rap."
